Thon is taller, longer, is more physical, and now probably stronger. Not being physical is a big red flag for Skal, when combined with his super thin frame. You need one or the other, at the least.

I am much more concerned about Makers strength and physicality than Skal's. Skal went and played the best competition he could. Maker didnt

What do people think of Cheick Diallo if he stays in the draft. would be nice to use with one of our 2nd round picks. Couldn't get off the bench at Kansas, but the kid apparently has a hell of a motor and great work ethic.

good article on Diallo

We end up with pick #4 and are offered Okafer for #4. Yes or no? What about for pick #3?

Celtics say yes to both but Philly would want more

Thon Maker sucks - enough with the first round pick nonsense. He is awful.

I'd be 50/50 at that point. I think Kris Dunn will be a stud but do we really want to draft a PG with shoots issues when we have larger weaknesses at the 3-5 that need to be addressed. I like Murray a bit, too. My disappointed side would probably say just trade it and add the scoring Jahlil brings.

Phenomenal article on this draft from a statistical perspective. Cliff Notes:

1. He realllllyyy likes Wade Baldwin.
2. Simmons is being overly punished for his lack of a jumper given how dominant he was in other ways
3. Ingram is gonna be good, but ceiling may be a bit overhyped
4. Likes Dunn, some concerns about Hield and Murray given their defensive / passing issues
5. Jaylen Brown = Tony Wroten, both good and bad
6. Tons of interesting guys in the 2nd round of this draft = great for the Celtics
7. Thomas Walkup, assuming he has close to NBA athleticism, could be a superb role player
8. Cat Barber could end up being a nice role player
9. Don't ask Denzel Valentine to be a playmaker / ballhandler for your team
10. Compares this to 2013 draft, where there was actually some good depth but little clarity at the top. Think there's more clarity this year (at least #1 / #2) but can see the comparison to some degree.
11. GPII - could be a superstar if he can become a mediocre shooter
12. Likes Brice Johnson and Chinanu Onuaku among the bigs, though this article was mostly guard/wing discussion

Let someone else bust on Thon. Guy stinks. Can't play. If those guys could okay, they would be too 5 picks. They can't play.

I do not like drafting players who you have to fundamentally teach how to play the game. Major projects like Biyombo and even Amir Johnson sometimes pan out, but rarely for the team that originally drafted them.

unless they get 1 or 2 I think Danny trades the pick. I think Hield is too high for the 3rd pick but we sure could use his shooting. we have a lot of defense but not much shooting. Kris Dunn presents a similar dilemma in that we just drafted Rozier. do we really take another guard. I like Brice Johnson with the Dallas pick if he's there. Also Sabonis. I think he will be a good pro. We desperately need better bigs. If we get Durant it almost doesn't matter what we do in the draft. Hey, how bad must James Young be to not get PT when we're shorthanded and in need of offense? jeez

I am much more concerned about Makers strength and physicality than Skal's. Skal went and played the best competition he could. Maker didnt

And then what happened?

Lol. Thon Maker skipped college this season so he could make more youtube videos against kids a year younger than him. His handlers know he's not good enough to be in the NBA, so they're trying to get him in via smoke and mirrors.

They also know he would never clear NCAA clearinghouse due to their prior sketchy behavior. By all accounts a nice kid being led by some bad dudes.

Had an idea for a trade a few days ago but slightly adjusted it after last nights game because I know nobody on this board would do it:

2016 Brooklyn pick (if not top 2)
23rd pick
Young
Amir

For:

Jimmy Butler
14th pick

Gives us a star player and more flexibility in the mid first round where there's a lot of quality bigs worthy of the pick(s).

Ivan Rabb returning to Cal for his sophomore season. May make a guy like Skal shoot up the board out of our reach with the Dallas pick

I don't know why anybody would be opposed to drafting Thon Maker. We have 5 picks in the top 35. I'm all for using on of them on Maker and sending him to the D-League to see what happens.

Bulls would laugh at us for even asking for their 14th pick.

Ed Isaacson ‏@nbadraftblog

Rare that a freshman shows me more on film than when I went to watch him. Malik Beasley has done it. Report later. I’m on board with him

Reggie ‏@REGGIES_WORLD

@nbadraftblog who would you compare him to?

Ed Isaacson ‏@nbadraftblog

@REGGIES_WORLD Don’t do comparisons. Find them never being close to accurate. Will say I can see him being a starting 2 in the NBA one day

Edit - A starting two guard (say a top 10-15 guy at his position, not a 'starter by default') would be worth a pretty high pick IMO. Def. lotto, probably top 10, based on the history of value at those spots.

I had Smart in there instead of Young but I knew no one on this board would do it after the game last night

Sure, but there is a huge difference between picking him with a top 3 pick, consolidating picks to get him in the 12-13 region, or grabbing him 35'th overall and sending him to Europe for a couple of years. Thoughts on the guy are all over the board at this point.

My leaning is Boston's own pick or early second at this time, but really combine, workouts and especially head to head competition is what is going to define where he goes. A few highlight films of his playing high school kids is close to meaningless from a pick standpoint, other than helping to determine if you have him in for a workout. Where he gets picked has a long way to go yet.
