Chase Utley Balling, Folks!

Post#761 » by Ranma » Sun Apr 24, 2016 11:57 pm

Chase just doubled in the go-ahead run. Trayce went from first to third on A.J.'s hit, then scores on the wild pitch to tie the game, but I wonder if Utley called time at the last second prior to that pitch to throw McGee off.

9th Inning Heros

Post#764 » by Ranma » Mon Apr 25, 2016 12:02 am

I agree with Joe Davis that A-Gon got things started by focusing on just getting on base. Thompson almost grounded into a DP but ran from 1B to 3B on Ellis' hit. Ellis, of course, with the pinch-hit. Utley with the leadership and clutch hitting and now Cory Seager comes through with an RBI double.

Kenley's 1st Walk of the Season

Post#769 » by Ranma » Mon Apr 25, 2016 12:08 am

Jansen just walked the leadoff batter on 4 pitches. :-o

Update: He then proceeds to strike out the next batter on 3 pitches.

I hate playing at Colorado.
I never expect ANYTHING from pitchers. I just hope the team fights and escapes. We escaped. 2-1

Bring on Donnie Bitchball.

That's the Ball Game!

Post#776 » by Ranma » Mon Apr 25, 2016 12:16 am

I'm relieved for the team to come away with the wild victory. Glad to see that we showed resiliency in finishing out the game. It sucks that we put ourselves in that position and robbed Alex Wood of what should have been an easy W for him. Time to get the eff out of Colorado.

I have no idea what this bullpen is going to be but this team better figure out this defense thing real quick.

The defense on this road trip was unacceptable.

I'm sorry but Alex didn't pitch well enough to deserve a win. he couldn't get through 6 innings while giving up 5 earned runs along the way of generous giving of 6 hits and 3 walks while clocking 5.0 innings of work. that's nearly 2 WHIP for this game. a couple of his 5 strike outs were also by the grace of questionable calls. we can say it was an aberration of being at mile high, but the truth is, Alex had now out of his 4 starts, only 1 that was good.

we need Ryu back badly. we need McCarthy back badly.

I think it would be easy to extend Kenley as he will only be 29 by the end of this season, and to extend him say 3 years with a team option and a buyout, say in size of 45-50 million for the 3 years plus a 20 million option, with a million dollar buyout.

Mariano got 15 mil per year since 2008, I think this would be good enough for Kenley and by the end of the deal, most likely the norm of the industry for a top 5 closer. beyond that tho, I would go with a short term deal on year to year basis unless his performance is consistently top notch. it is highly unlikely anyone could sustain the level of excellence Mariano kept until his early 40s. these are outliers and not the standard.
