Nasty daddy was different... I felt like that guy getting banned might have saved his life. If you spend hours upon hours every day searching for the slightest shred of Pistons news and posting it, there's clearly something borderline obsessive going on that needs to be addressed.

Maker just hated on everything, but he did disappear for days at a time (particularly during a win streak), so I'm pretty sure he's not mentally unstable. Maybe this was his way to let the hate out, and he's actually a very positive person. Even if that's the case, we shouldn't have to listen to it.

bstein alluded to what I think is a very valid point relative to that gray area...while probably nothing Maker did was a bannable offense by the letter of the law, when almost every post and thread you make facilitates making the forum unenjoyable for the other members, they're all letting you know it, and you won't change your behavior, you need to be moved on. It's as simple as that IMO.

Thanks to the team. You did the right thing.

I honestly didn't mind him? Maybe I'm in the internet world for far too long, but his level of "trolling" doesn't even phase me anymore considering how much worse I've seen and the level of agitation wasn't really alarming IMO. I can't tell if that makes me a worse person or not.

At the very least, he disrupted the circlejerk/echo chamber that sometimes this forum has with certain topics. But I can see why you guys would ban him too.

As long as the mods are on their toes on potential multiple accounters as well as current multiple accounters on here that come back from the dead, I have no qualms. You know who you are

Truth be told, I didn't mind him either. This forum is no different than being in a big room with a bunch of people watching a game. If you walk into that room and yell, "THIS TEAM EFFING SUCKS WORSE THAN ANYTHING THAT HAS EVER SUCKED BEFORE!" you should expect that someone is going to fire back at you. There's no dignity in tolerating people being complete dicks, and that's why I don't use the ignore button. I'm that guy who enjoys speaking up and telling someone that they're a dick. I'd have enjoyed busting that guy up as long as he was allowed to stay. We old schoolers remember what it was like before the internet; when you walked into that room you couldn't be a dick to everyone in the room or you'd get your jibs knocked out, and everyone in the room would have cheered it on.

I don't mind dissenting opinions. When it based on something other than "teh suckz". Maker provided no discussion of the Pistons on a Pistons basketball forum other than discussion on whether or not he was a troll and should be banned. Baiting and inciting are bannable offenses. TBH, I'm surprised it went on as long as it did and that people are actually opposed to his banishment. Maybe that's why it took so long. Thanks to the mods who finally made it happen. Hopefully we can now move on and have some discussions on the team itself and not posters.

Cowology wrote:I was against banning him, but acknowledge I was in the minority and won't exactly shed a tear. It really was kind of a gray area, like nasty daddy, where it had become enough of a disruption that action was justifiable.

Is what it is.

I place myself in this camp as well.

I thought he moved outside of the grey area with the topic he created right there at the end. I was still unsure about an absolute ban but at that point felt that some sort of definitive action needed to be taken. I guess a ban ultimately serves the end, even if I'm not really sure I'd have done it myself.

If someone came as a Cavs fan and kept saying this team sucks, would he get banned? If so, then Maker was obviously in the same line. We have critical posters and we have overly positive posters (I know I fall into this camp a lot). But atleast we explain our points either way. Honestly, if somebody constantly posted positive outlandish things, I'm sure it would get just as annoying.

Folks getting banned because they feel this team sucks and has a social media site to express his opinion. Damn, my guy @Clarity was right.

That's crazy lame!

I never minded any of Makers posts. He was a Pistons fan for sure, probably more emotionally invested than a lot of us. Now he's banned because some people didn't agree with what he had to say? I didn't realize this was North Korea. He complained about the team, players, coaches, etc but didn't seem to be offensive to other posters. I would argue that based on the replies directed at him, other posters were more hostile and unwelcoming. This is a outlet for people to share their opinions, if you don't like what they say, ignore them? :banghead:

You have to offer some sort of substance though to a forum. That guy would literally never bring nothing to the table but trolling and trying to piss everyone off.

That's the point of dispute. A lot of us don't believe he was a Pistons fan. He didn't attack other posters but he didn't offer up any substance in his posts. That's what made a lot of us believe it was just trolling. He wasn't trying to be an interactive part of the forum; he was looking for a place to s**t.

But let's say he was really a fan. I don't know about you, but if people come to my house and s**t in the toilet except for that one guy who insists on dropping trou and s**tting in my living room every time he comes over, before too long I'm not going to let him in my house anymore. I don't want the rest of my guests stepping in and smelling s**t. That's not communism, that's being a sensible host.

The guy contradicted himself in the same threads, if not the same posts more often than not. He would say they didn't deserve to be in the playoffs, predict the team would get swept, then be pissed that they were getting swept, and say something about how they should have been a 4-5 seed and avoided the situation altogether.

I don't see a problem being a dissenting opinion. I don't even care if you just hate on the team and players every post. But at least post coherent, and consistent thoughts. The dude must have had some serious multiple personality issues or something. We all recognize names, and we all kind of have a general idea as to how certain posters think. Maker was just a nut job.

I don't think Maker needed to be banned. Because, if not one person ever responded to any of his posts and he was completely ignored, he would probably post some nicer things to actually be in a discussion and get feedback. The kid probably just wanted attention.

I think you nailed it, he wanted attention but for the most part was harmless. The reason I don't like it is that I think it sets a dangerous precedent. I'm in favor of an open web with less censorship, so things like this bring me out of lurking. :-)

In theory I'm not the biggest fan of banning him, but in application I'm sure I'll love it. He was the only one I ever considered putting on my foe list aside from TSE (who was more active on the lions forum than pistons if memory serves).
