Is KCP our playoff MVP?

Post#1 » by bstein14 » Mon Apr 25, 2016 4:11 am

Who do your think was the most important player on our team during the series? Feels like KCP played a huge roll defensively and also was solid scoring the ball for us.

KCP without a doubt!

He cops a lot of flack in here but his work ethic, defensive focus & his improvement is a major reason why we had a successful season.

Yeah him and Johnson were very impressive. In order it would go -

KCP
Johnson
Morris
Reggie
Drummond
Harris

Drummond was clearly the most valuable player to us when on the court but he was so easy for the Cavs to get rid of.

Yeah he was pretty damn good and his 3 was falling, we're a dangerous team when he makes his 3s.
Definitely the MVP of this series.

Either KCP or Morris, both of those guys were brilliant for us. KCP was a two way beast for us, I'd take 4 more guys just like him.

KCP is eligible for a contract extension this summer (Just like Dre was last summer).... I wonder if Stan will offer him something like $60 million for a 4 year extension or if KCP would consider an offer like that... or if he would prefer to wait until the following year.

Quick outside point of view - just wanted to say this dude is impressive. His lateral quickness is REALLY something to see. Example being Kyrie typically has zero problems blowing by guys (even someone like Kawhi Leonard - seriously watch the tape) but whenever KCP was on him he actually stayed in front of him.

Combine that with his shooting and effort and damn this guy is a serious keeper.

I'm going to go with Andre, he did a lot of things people have been complaining that he hasn't been doing. He gave us an interior presence on D, kept Tristan Thompson from being a major annoyance, and played with more focus and urgency.

When he wasn't on the floor, especially in the clutch everything went downhill. Interior defensive presence is gone and we're giving up untimely offensive rebounds. I hope Andre saw that too. If he was motivated enough to do all the little things people have been harping on him about, hopefully he'll be motivated to be at least a respectable FT shooter. We cannot win without him on the floor.

Rest of the starters can receive ribbons (not Tobias though) for their play, they were solid. I can't give KCP the MVP (although he gave us a great series) since his defensive assignment lit us up the whole series and made a bigger impact than Lebron James.

I'm not trying to be negative, but if we're being honest Kyrie got whatever he wanted on him and was the Cavs MVP, so I don't know how KCP could be ours.

He was solid scoring early (as was all of our guys), but they were all mostly no shows in the 2nd halves. So I don't think we had an MVP. I thought they all played well in the 1st halves and all played poor in the 2nd.

One of the biggest differences in the series though was Reggie/KCP combining for only 29 ppg and Irving scoring 27 per game by himself. Either we need KCP to stop the other teams best guard, or we need more than 15 ppg from that position if teams are going to double Reggie and make him a passer. That math just doesn't work in our favor when JR is adding 14 ppg on 52% 3FG.

Where I think he did show improvement though was his decision making. He rarely forced bad shots and made the right pass most of the series. Same for all of them. After a season full of so much iso-hero ball, we really didn't have that much of it at all in the playoffs, and our ball movement/decision making got better and better as the series went. I think playing against the Cavs showed them how to play as a team and that might end up the biggest benefit of this series going forward.

KCP? I thought we were trading him?

Seriously, because Irving had a great series it was KCP's fault? For one thing, Kyrie was channeling Curry in this series. For another, the Cavs ran a lot of nice picks to peel KCP off of him. In the modern moving screen/two handed push NBA, nobody locks down another player all on their own.

I don't think we ever faced a team like the Cavs that can run the pick and pop to perfection and both players being lights out shooters in this series. KCP can't guard everyone as much as we want him to, anything short of Kawhi couldn't have done a better job since the Cavs were making everything.

He really was our MVP. MVP on hustle and showing up alone.

Oh we know. Everyone outside this forum raved on how he played, from the broadcast crew to Inside TNT to reddit.

So it's an easy decision from us despite some cognitive dissonance.

don't know if he was our MVP but he had a good series. i've seen a lot of comments about him from other fanbases and all they had to say were positive things. you know he's gonna try on D but i was impressed by his offense as well. he forced a couple shots as he does but other than that he was penetrating when the opportunity was there, he was making plays with his passing and he was attacking the rim when driving - not settling. i'm really looking forward to his improvement this offseason.

i thought reggie jackson had a very good series too, for the most part. it's a shame his 3's weren't falling because he was great distributing, attacking the rim when he had the chance and surprised me with his defensive effort. it was funny/disappointing/etc. how his decision-making would be great for 45 or so minutes and then make some bad decisions down the stretch in games 1, 3 and 4. i think this experience could be most beneficial for him, to be honest.

harris was at his best in game four but was pretty bad for the first three games in the series. i really hope he works on his defense this offseason. lebron and love aren't easy covers but he put up little resistance against them. his defensive stance is really bad, fixing something as simple as that could work wonders on his defense.

i'll write about morris and drum later...
