This isn't personal freedom, it's a message board where you are given a privilege to participate. If you abuse that privilege and don't follow the rules you had to agree to when signing up, you are aware that you can be suspended/banned from posting any further. If he so chooses to discuss the Pistons any longer he can do so on any other forum out there until they ban him as well.

People also forget that RealGM has become a business. RealGM is selling a product. And when one poster can hinder the use of that product, they have the right to remove that poster who is hindering their product. The business has the rights in this situation, not the fans.

You can kill traffic by being twats too.. It's give and take.

Well yeah but Id say realgm keeps the balance pretty well. I dont want this place being as childish and full of trolls as insidehoops, and if that means theres more of a mod presence im fine. Its not like people are banned for disagreeing with the mods or anything sillly.

It's not like we go around banning people left and right on the Pistons board. Our mods pretty much always error on the side of caution and are waaaay more lenient than a lot of other teams boards. You need to be pretty damn blatant and/or persistent in your disruptive behavior for us to take such severe action so it's not like these types of moves are unjustified.

Again, I was not personally in favor of banning him... but that's more of a preference/judgement call sorta thing. It may not be what I would have done, but it was not "wrong" and if that is how the majority of the board and our mods felt like it should have gone then I'll back them on it 100%.

And that is not me just walking some company line - there have been times in the past when I have disagree with a decision and I have no problems going to bat and arguing the point. This is not one of those cases. Maker had many many chances to adjust his behavior and become a more valuable member of the community and HE made the choice not to. That's on HIM, not the mods. The ban was completely justifiable.

If people want to post on a forum were that sort of behavior is both acceptable and common place there are any number of options out there for them. This was not a death sentence. It was a one-sided break up. He'll get over it and life will go on.

so much this right here. I have no idea what some of these posters are talking about. The guy was a complete waste of keystrokes and he was on my ignore list for several months, maybe even a year. I hope he is reading this so he can see how much of a detriment to this forum he was for so many.

A ban should only go for a year. Through time and fantasy ball, I've had people go off the deep end. They've grown up and out of it. Give a year off and let back in..... that is unless you all are perfect. ;) I tell my wife I'm only always right....that's what I tell her. ;) I've just came back after a while a way and don't know him or his posts. Just saying, Life Time bans? Absurd. In my opinion and as I tell my wife...... ha ha ha

Life bans aren't so absurd when the person being issued the ban contributed nothing other than low effort trolling. Realistically anyone who wants a 2nd chance can just discreetly make a new account and make a concerted to be a better poster, but as we've already covered Maker isn't/wasn't a piston's fan.

more so why a lifetime????????? give them access again after 6 months and if they act up again then ban them. In the case of maker, he'd come back, do the same sh* and boom be banned. Its 2016 , there has to be a better way than kicking ppl out for life.

For someone like Clarity who was a legitimate poster who just broke the rules a few times (unless I'm mistaken?), I agree 100%. Accounts made solely for the purpose of trolling are an exception though imo.

If he really wanted to (unlikely), Maker could technically secretly come back on a new account and start actually contributing to the board and explaining the reasoning behind his opinions. The board probably wouldn't even know it was him. Any troll-only poster could do the same, and that sounds a lot more appealing imo than coming back on an account that has a stigma associated with it.

You've convinced me. And from now on, I think we should give shoplifters life time bans... maybe life time in prison. If they did it once or twice or three times, they will always do it and should be punished for their entire lives.

0 tolerance for it. Zero. Zip. Zilch. (which is what _________ do when they don't have the common sense to make fair and just decisions.) At least in my opinion and since I have the power, you lose.
....

Just my opinion. Life time bans are absurd. I don't run this site, so I don't have the power to make a call or decision. President Gollum of Turkey might agree with you though.

If you think you can equate a lifetime ban on a basketball forum (which isn't really a lifetime ban as you can make a new account, as some posters have done) to life in prison I'm not gonna bother giving you a proper reply.

Like others have said,he can just as easily make another account and be back at it tomorrow.

I don't know about the rest of you but I really get into the games, and when were leading until the 3 minute mark and the game is still anyone's,IMA not going to miss maker coming in saying Jackson or dre,etc suck and the reason were losing ,when that same player has 28/15/4 or 35/11/5.Then he would disappear just as quickly as he appeared once he realized we couldn't lose.that chit would drive me crazy for good games.

The only thing I will miss and some of the funny "where's maker,he must be _ _.pure gold.

Yeah... if we apply this to real life situations.

This is a basketball forum, and someone was being a detriment for over a year.

No we will have to agree that you are literally trying to argue against something that doesn't exist on this forum.

Arguing against life time bans, which do exist on this forum. Just because you don't agree with the subject, argument, etc.... doesn't make it not true. And really, not even trying to make an argument. It's more of a fact that some are unable to grasp or a concept that some are unwilling to accept.

I won't give to blips if you agree with me or not. You don't like the polite way. You seem to like the rude, offensive, insulting way.
Not my fault. Not my problem either.
...

There are ways around the lifetime ban, but the lifetime ban still is reality. Torture is against the law, but torture is the reality of anyone against the united states.

If you get offended when someone disagrees with a silly post, my advice to you is just to add me to your ignore list tbh.

You are not listening. I don't agree with bans. Since you can't agree to disagree....feel free to ban me. I really don't care. What you think is really meaningless. Your thoughts and arguments are not based in reality. They are based on some petty belief that what you think means something.

I would have to imagine he was warned numerous of times for all of his trolling before they banned him. He got away with some pretty hardcore trolling.
