Three potential under the radar signings this off-season

Post#1 » by blueadams » Thu Apr 28, 2016 12:26 am

#1: Matthew Dellavedova. He's an RFA, but his price tag should be very reasonable, and he should be very get-able. He's only 25 yrs old. Top-100 rating as a real plus minus player this season. Shot an outstanding .410 from deep this season (.398 career). He's already proven that he can run the show himself when called upon (starting pg for the Cavs last post-season, basically). He's got great size at 6-4, 198, and could play alongside Reggie. He'd be a great knockdown shooter at the two, and he could guard the opponent's less-threatening guard (or their more threatening guard, giving Reggie a bit of a breather). He had a slightly negative defensive rating this season, but I feel he's enough of a grits, effort and brains guy to be at least average there.

#2: Jared Dudley. UFA. Annually, one of The most underrated players in the NBA. 58th in the league in real plus minus this season, and that's really right about where he Always seems to be. 30 yrs old. Shot .420 from deep this season! (.399 career). Plus defender. Great size (6-7, 225). Can play and guard the 2 or 3. By all known accounts, a great intangibles guy. Just gets hated on bc he.. well, he just doesn't really look like he's a great basketball player (appearance-wise). I think he could be a great, bargain signing. And I actually think he'd be better on the court than KCP (who shot a meager .309 from deep this year; absolutely unacceptable for an SVG 2-guard).

#3: Matt Bonner. UFA. 36 yrs old, but coming off a career season. 85th in the league in real plus minus this season. 6-10, 235.. can play and guard the 4 or 5 position. Plus defender. Shot an astronomical .441 from deep this season (.414 career). For a bargain price, he could really give us a great stretch 4 or 5 to utilize off the bench for big minutes and for big points. And as a long-time Spur, you know his intangibles are plus-plus.

Just those three cheap signings this off-season -- and not even talking about trades or draft picks -- and you're looking at a squad like this next season:

C: Drummond - - - - - Baynes
PF: Tobias - - - - - *Bonner
SF: Marcus - - - - - Stanley
SG: *Dudley - - - - - KCP
PG: Jackson - - - - - *Dellavedova

Res: Bullock, Anthony, Meeks, Dinwiddie, Hilliard

Now, that to me, along with expected improvements to the existing roster, is a much, much improved team. And for very little financial splash. Find a really good two-guard somehow, and it might be a championship-contending team before long.

Bonner? Dude!

Dudley? Bounces from one team to the next quickly because he's easily replaced but as vets go we could do worse

Delly is gonna get PAID this off-season - if he signs for less than $10 mil I'll be very surprised

Matt Bonner is a fossil and Dudley has been good thanks in huge part to John Wall. Same thing happened with Ariza before he came to HOU.

Dudley as a backup-fringe sf is our best bet.

Thoughts to responses so far..

1: The cap's going to be 108M next off-season. Is 10-12M too much to pay your backup pg?? Especially one (at 6-4, 198) who can play a lot of minutes alongside Reggie.. guarding, doing all the small things, and -- most importantly -- hitting 40% from deep.

2: Dudley's been good for a while fellas, and on different teams. 42% from deep w solid defense is nothing to laugh at.

3: Bonner. I didn't proclaim him to be a superstar. I said he'd be a nice stretch 5/4 off the bench. And he would be. And for a nice price. 44% from deep -- again -- isn't something to laugh at either. Tolliver only hit 36% from deep in a somewhat similar role this yr.

While I wouldn't mind spending that kinda money on Delly as he clearly leaves his imprint in the game. SVG also has to worry about KCPs contract coming up. While paying Delly 10-12 mil right now doesn't seem crippling, It could be after having Dre on a Monster contract and KCP making somewhere in the ballpark of 15 per. I don't think we could afford it, Maybe go after Bayless or something.

I'm not sure SVG's gonna be all that interested in signing a two who shoots 30% from 3 to a long term 15m/per contract..

Who are you kidding, I think KCP is his favorite player on the team.

Delly, i would like, but hes going to get paid.

Dudley, only at an affordable contract. I'm not paying him 3 years/$21 mil.

Bonner?

I'm hoping that Dallas is looking to move on from Devin Harris. We could trade Anthonys' unguaranteed and Dinwiddles unguaranteed for him. Probably would have to add something, but still.

If KCP plays how he did in the playoffs yes 15 mill is probably in consideration for some teams. I'm guessing right now teams would consider 10-12 for him based on potential

Lol NO/NO to Dudley and Bonner.. neither of those guys fill a need on this team.
Do people not realize Bullock shot 41.5% from 3 for us? We just didn't give him enough minutes.
Hilliard 38% from 3. We have wings that can shoot already.
Dudley is older and redundant.

First we need to trade Meeks, Dinwiddie, Bullock to make room to sign two FA

Then we need to throw all our money at Teletovic and Jeremy Lin

Teletovic is the perfect PF for our system, set some records this year for highest % and most 3pt made for a bench player

Worst case scenario we sign Teletovic and do not have the money to go after anyone for backup PG then we trade Meeks for Calderon

Pay Dellavedova! Pay the man. He's worth 10-12 million for sure and we've got the money. That's 1/9 of the cap and he'll definitely be in the rotation. Then trade the first pick with Meeks for a solid backup PF. I really want Dellavedova and Markieff Morris. Usually SVG gets better though. Never saw Harris AND Morris coming. We'll see what happens.

Bonner is a plus defensively? I'm a stats guy, but if the stats say that, the stats are lying.

I agree with Dellavedova, fits well with what we are trying to do. He will cost us but I think he would be worth it. Linn is a good option too. Bonner is too old to add to are core I would rather spend that money on Amir Johnson. Not big on Dudley, he is a step up from Tolliver but not by much. I do like Evan Turner. He is a point forward that cant shoot the three but is very good at everything else. With Turner on the floor you could run two shoot first guards with him and be good.
