OT: The OTHER Boards

Post#1 » by Blkbrd671 » Thu Apr 28, 2016 1:56 am

Since i started posting on RealGM, the Bball General Board ,Trades and Transactions Board, and Detroit boards are where i spent majority of my time on RealGM. Due to unforeseen circumstances(leave it at that) , i have had to seek discussion else where and honestly it was one of the better things that happen to me on this site.

Listed below are the boards i began participating in and why I recommend that you venture out. During the offseason may help pass the time :D

CURRENT AFFAIRS

This board is anything currently being discussed in the News that tends to be controversial. Or anything news really

ie.
- The Election and Trump
- Beyonce SB Performance
- Syria
- Science

I utilize this board as one of the ways to educate myself on current topics and to discuss as well. There are a number of knowledgeable posters on these boards who can shed light or give you a link to research if you want to know more about what is happening . Ain't going to lie, i have already used discussion i've had on the CA board as interesting topics in my casual conversations.

viewforum.php?f=69

MEDIA LOUNGE

Probably by far the most helpful of the "New" boards. Its pretty much threads about upcoming and old Movies and TV Series. If any of you are struggling to find new series or are curious as to how others review potential series/movies, or you just want to b* about how much you hate specific characters, this is the perfect board. I've watched at least 5 different tv series because of this board recommendations and i have enjoyed everyone.

Also the interaction on this board is a lot more friendly, typically posters aren't as invested in tv characters or movies so the conversations are light and more fun.

viewforum.php?f=68

GENERAL OFF-TOPIC

Pretty much explains itself. Its a board where you can post or ask about anything "Off-Topic". I don't really participate in a lot of the discussion however i do lurk quite a bit. The fun ones to read are comparing restaurants and reviews of other items

One of my favorite threads is:
- About Good Beers
- Random Gif Thread

other threads include

Marry, ****, Kill: Disney Princesses Edition

Like all new boards you visit, you should first look at the guidelines and policies of the board. This is literally part of the GOT constitution.

10. The toilet humor shall stay (where appropriate)

By all means, these rules are no attempt to put a stop to the threads about pooping, squirting and/or peeing. Obviously we don’t want these taking up the entire OTB, but the evidence shows that they never have in the past, and won’t in the future.

Needless to say its a interesting board

viewforum.php?f=42

GAMER LOUNGE

Basically the same thing as the media lounge but for Video Games.

I don't have the time i used to play games with buddies all over the world however i have found this board useful for reviews of games i maybe interested in playing, or buying as a gift or helpful tips and tricks. I have not had this happen yet but i think it would be pretty cool to play online with some posters from RealGM.

ie.

PS4 Official Thread
Xbox One Official Thread

viewforum.php?f=408

I hope that i get to see some of you on the other boards as the NBA season winds down and hope you get some more benefit out of this website as i have.

I visit the Media Lounge daily. Always good stuff about both upcoming and current tv/movies. Occasionally I peruse the CA board, but honestly I get enough of that type of discussion elsewhere and I generally seek out more light hearted topics of conversation on RGM. Still, some good discussions to be had if that is your cup of tea.

Any other "Board" recommendations?

I've always thought it would be nice if we used this board to discuss off topic stuff more frequently (or at all really); a lot of other team boards do that and it's interesting to hear people's opinions and all that jazz on things other than basketball. Bit of a moot point right now though I guess, considering our season is over and with no lotto pick for the first time in a long time this should be a relatively quiet off-season on the board I would think.

its a very toe the line idea on our own board. When you start discussing topics other than basketball you reveal quite a bit about yourself, even as a anonymous poster. For some posters, its hard, and just recently we had a OT Thread in which 2-3 posters commented that they prefer not to comment on OT subjects, which is kind of ironic.

If you start one and it interest me, i'll definitely participate.

Yeah, that's a pretty reasonable assessment of it. Ironically I seem to recall a thread asking about the board's demographics being really popular. I'd participate too if people started OT threads, but I don't think I'll be the one making them. I think there some sort of curse associated with me starting any sort of topic/thread on the internet tbh...even the mundane stuff like "predict this player's stats" that anybody could start never seems to get much activity lol.

lol, i've had a couple of those, my worst thread i started was when i posted drunk of my a*. Never again, though that gives me a idea of starting a "Drunk Thread" for posters to b* about our pistons when they are drunk. hahaha, then THE REAL POSTERS come out

I've definitely made my rounds on those other forums. I still post semi-regularly on the Media Lounge forum, there's some good discussion there.

I try to stay away from the CA forum for the most part, since it tends to frustrate me. In the few threads I have decided to participate in, I generally just get frustrated.

General Off Topic Forum, well, I've got a complex history there. I spent a couple year stint as a major poster and moderator there, and it was good fun for a brief period in the 2009-2012 period. During that time I actually posted there a lot more than I did here. Had some good friends in those parts, a couple of whom I still talk to off Realgm. Eventually grew tired of threads getting derailed and general idiocy. No idea what its like there now.

Yeah I can't talk politics without fighting in real life let alone the Internet. I try to avoid it anymore as it's not worth the headache and I will probably get banned or something

Media Lounge - I probably post on there, more than any other forum.

GB - sometimes if a topic catches my interest.

Trade board - I used to a lot when I first joined but rarely do these days.

T&T games - mod there but mainly post when I am running a game or if a dispute is in need of resolution.

Gamers' Lounge - mod on this one as well but it is only busy when big games or events hit so not as much posting there as other boards.

Since the media lounge seems to be popular maybe someone could start a OT thread here called that?

People can talk about movies, tv shows, whatever in it...get it stickied

Then a music one would be good...

Maybe a thread for Other Sports?

I'm not worried about revealing my "true self" - I dont do **** besides work, watch NRL & NBA, drink JD and after turning 40 seem to gravitate towards modern country music AND old rappers like Pac...bizarre combo I guess

I used to frequent all boards religiously but have scaled back now that I am real busy and got banned from Current Affairs board. The new mod GWGW or whatever hates right wingers and used to trash my posts as a poster then once he became a mod, started banning me within a month with no warnings even though I post the same way for 13 years here. There are many extreme left wingers on that board who will attack you personally with disregard for RealGM rules and you cannot talk back without being banned. So, beware.

FYI. If any left winger disagrees with your post, you will hear the term,"Where did you get that from, Fox News" every day even if you are a left winger yourself.

I like General Off Topic if you like to be goofy but it is very Clicky as everyone there have posted for many years and are good friends. Meet in Vegas every year. Manocad knows many personally.

I post on the Media and Gamer infrequently and have a few running discussions on there. I have noticed Blkbrd671 posting on these boards recently.

Also, I may post on any team board occasionally and rarely get called out for doing so as long as you post respectfully and add to the discussion without blatant opinions.

I haven't got into many political discussions so i haven't had any negative experiences but definitely good to know. I've also posted on other teams boards, though you guys wouldn't recognize that poster because i am so polite and welcoming , not the a*hole i am here.

Oh I'm definitely avoiding any political threads. Every time I argue with a liberal they think I have a Reagan poster in my bedroom and every conservative I argue with would swear up and down I'm feeling the Bern. I hate being associated with either so I just get annoyed from both barrels. Plus I live in NC so I get enough of arguing with morons IRL these days.

The Current Affairs board is a cliquey liberal circle jerk. It's a bunch of twats all agreeing with each other about how anything left is intelligent, right and good, and anything conservative is stupid, wrong and bad. Not surprising that I was banned from there.

The OTB is a fun but it's gotten somewhat stupid. I like goofy off the wall fun but it's turned too childish and corny. Got banned from there too. Although like BMP said I've done many meet-ups with the OTB guys and now am personal friends with a lot of them. One of them is getting married in a couple of weeks in Milwaukee and I'm going.
