Mack and Ish Smith are arguably as good or better than Ramon Sessions, who himself has been a real solid backup PG.
This has turned-out to be very ironic, Mack is a starting PG now and doing pretty-well therefore Ernie gets an asteriks next to his otherwise disasterous 2011 draft. Mack at pick 34 was good usage of a 2nd round pick even though Parsons, Leur, and IT were taken after Mack. If we had any semblance of a development track/program, Mack would be in our rotation.
Why would Grunfeld get an asterisk on that draft? Mack was the most productive player for the Wizards from that draft, and they cut him twice to keep other players who were also less productive. The Wiz had no idea -- despite Mack's on court performance for them -- that they'd drafted a decent backup PG.
This is my bad then, I was impatient with Mack and he seemed to be kind of on the slow-side his rookie year. As time went on, his hesitant style of play (to me) appeared to be more a problem of the dysfunction of the offense at the time. At ATL, he looked like a 3rd stringer, but now that he is playing starter minutes in Utah, he looks pretty comfortable out-there and he makes good decisions....he has gotten better.
Oof! Did Ernie again make reference to not having time to develop a player?!?! regarding Mack? We truly are doomed then, all he ever really wants to do is keep those vets rolling in and out of here.
