Kings accepting offers on Cousins

Post#1 » by Todd3 » Fri Apr 29, 2016 7:50 pm

http://nba.nbcsports.com/2016/04/29/report-kings-willing-to-trade-demarcus-cousins-because-his-moodiness-bothers-teammates/

We have an inside track now too with Catanella as their new Assistant GM. Bower should call over there and make all of our assets available sans Drummond/Reggie, and who knows maybe they choose our offer.

Harris/KCP/Stanley + 18th pick would be a pretty sizable package for the Kings to rebuild with.

While we solidify our Big 3 of Drummond/Cousins/Reggie and would still have ~20-25m in cap space to restock around them with shooters.

Drummond/Cousins is a terrible fit together

We wouldn't trade Drummond for Cousins. He's already a huge headcase and surprise a locker room problem. It's nowhere near worth the risk of him clashing here especially with SVG and leaving in two years and basically losing Dre for nothing. SVG is in control here and I'm sure he knows he can't coach Cousins and won't jeopardize his roster trying.

Disagree completely. Cousins can shoot good enough to play PF with him, and would give us a better post defender vs Love/Davis/LMA at that position, as well as a secondary rebounder/rim protector allowing Dre to go for more blocks. Then when teams put us in the bonus fouling Dre, we move the league leader in FTAs in Cousins to C to punish them for it. And eventually they won't do it all, if the reward for fouling Drummond becomes having to guard Cousins in the penalty at C instead. Which is why he's actually the perfect fit.

Agree on not trading Drummond. No way. But Cousins with Dummond is definitely intriguing to me. I think Stan would actually be a great coach for him too, because he's said before that he just wants his HC/GM to be straight with him and wants to win. If I had to describe Stan in 2 words it's (brutal) honesty and winning. I think Cousins would appreciate playing for Stan in the same way Rasheed liked playing for Brown.

If we can upgrade our role players into a 25 & 10 big man who can play both spots, Stan has to go for it imo.

yeah there is risk in him only being under contract for 2 yrs, but if it doesn't work we can still rebuild around Drummond/Reggie again, and it's not like this current supporting cast is the ideal fit anyways. We might need to trade them anyways in a few years, and probably won't get a talent as good as Cousins.

Can't get him without trading Drummond. And Dre is a FA and ain't gonna sign on to go to Sacramento.

Yeah, too much baggage and pairing him with Dre mitigates his value.
Comments to rationalize bad contracts -
1) It's less than the MLE
2) He can be traded later
3) It's only __% of the cap
4) The cap is going up
5) It's only __ years
6) He's a good mentor/locker room guy

I continue to believe that Drummond has massive potential he has yet to reach. Whether he will or not is hard to say, but I'm not trading him for Cousins. But IF it went down I wouldn't be upset - that's reasonable value and doesn't unbalance our roster.

Would this be giving up too much?

To: det

Cousins
Casspi

To: Sac

Drummond
Johnson
Meeks
J. Anthony
Dinwiddie
First round pick

We might lose Drummond and Johnson but we get rid of Meeks contract and get a good 3 point Shooting SF along with Cousins. Sac gets an all star center along with a good young future star SF/SG and a first round pick.

If we really did want to go after Cousins and Dre was willing to do a sign and trade then Drummond is all they should get. Drummond still holds a lot of value and he would be locked up for the next 5 years. They couldn't expect more then a better package from us for their disgruntled problem star.

Cousins for Dre straight up will likely work maybe if they relent, we give up a 1st, considering how much Cousins is in the news all the time being a trade bait.

I doubt they would do it though. BOS has a warchest of picks and young assets, if I was Divak, I'd call them up first and see what they would do.

Then again, this is the same FO that literally gave away Stauskas (valuable rookie contract) for no reason and got trash in return.

I think that Dre being a RFA puts us out of the running. In SVG I trust, we keep Dre - it's the right move, we don't - it's the right move (obviously we would be getting an amazing return).
If this is true I'd expect the Celtics, Denver, Orlando to offer any pick and any player to get him.

It'd be nice to have a rock solid 1st option on offense. Sacramento maybe laughs at us, but I'd offer:

Cousins

for

Tobias
Mook or Stanley
2 1st rounders (some form of limited protection - top 3?)

That gives the Kings two young, good players with upside, along with 2 first round picks. I don't know if any other teams will blow that offer out the water.

I would take Dre over Cousins I'm pretty sure. Just because of Dre's weak ass mentality.

Wouldn't trade our sulky baby for a rebellious teenager. Our kid might grow up better.

I'd do Tobias, Marcus, 2 firsts for Cousins
