Re: All-Time Fantasy Draft With FGA Limit - Participant List Thread
I'm interested to if some guys go much lower/higher than they would otherwise due to the FGA restriction, or if in the first round people just take the best player available in their mind.

You can pick. Theonlyclutch can make his selection whenever he wants, but he can't get mad if you pick a guy that he would like to pick, before him.

I want a first option offensively, I want a media darling, I want 70% TS.

Love the pick. Had him #1 on my "big board".

I was wondering how quickly Curry will get selected, and here it is...What's funny is that knowing theonlyclutch as a poster, he probably had Steph at (or near) the top of his shortlist of players that he would select, so it's a nice steal.

I was thinking of other, lower usage guys at first (one in particular that I imagine we'll see soon) but with the run on AT greats and the disregard of FGA up until now I just went for it, figured he'd be easy to build around

I was actually pretty close to 100% sure clutch would've taken Curry

Considered another guy that we'll probably see soon but in the end I followed the trend with high usage all-time greats

I was kinda shocked to see Narigo pick '64 Wilt instead of '67, because one player eating up 28.7 FGA seems FAR from ideal. I also drafted a volume scorer, but MJ is still 4.7 FGA below that version of Wilt...Meanwhile, '67 Wilt who averaged only 14.2 FGA and shot 63.7% TS and acted as a mid-post playmaker, seemed like a perfect centerpiece (especially considering that Chamberlain playing this way led to much better offensive performance for his team, compared to the volume scoring years)...To each his own, though. Will be interesting to see who Narigo surrounds him with.

Heh. This is one of my favorite parts of a project like this: Where we all get to play Chris Berman analyzing each others' teams as they are gradually revealed. I was going to wait a bit, but might as well start discussing:
-I think the Shaq pick at #1 was the wise choice. In my experience while people tend to state that they believe Jordan's peak was GOAT, when they actually analyze teams, no player resonates more than Shaq. Had I had the #1 pick I'd have still taken Bird, but I think Shaq gives you the best chance of being voted the best team.
-I was surprised Jordan fell below 2nd. While I passed him up too, there's no doubt that Q got a steal at the 4th slot. Here's where I'll note that in the all-time leagues I was first a part of 10 years ago on this board, I picked Jordan 2nd in one, and TrueLAfan picked him 1st in the other. Neither team "won" but I thought both easily could have, especially TrueLAfan's team.
-I'm very curious to see what the LeBron & Wilt teams end up looking like as in both cases the years' specified required the GM to really think about what they wanted. The LeBron pick was bold but totally defensible and I admire that. I'll also note that in those projects I mentioned, Wilt was the other guy picked in the top 2 with Jordan both times, so potentially quite the steal there.
My top three was MJ, Bron and Shaq in some order so I could understand any of those three wherever.
I don't think Bird would have been in my head at that position but he certainly won't be difficult to build around, definitely not a bad choice at all, giving you a ton of versatility. I have some ideas for who you'll be looking for on your second pick so i'm anxious to see that
I'm very surprised to see some of these high usage guys taken so early, I wasn't sure whether to expect this or whether we'd see some of the higher impact-lower scoring guys first.
The weird thing about the Wilt choice is that he went with '64 instead of '67.. Definitely not a bad choice, '64 Wilt was way more of a scorer, but just interesting

Exactly my thought. I probably would have taken '67 Wilt had Narigo not gone with him to be honest.

I was wondering also. He has a great case for going 1st, but I figured people would be hesitant. Props to Timmay having the moxie to just go for it.

There are about 3 or 4 players i'm considering building around, and i'm pretty sure one - if not all - will be there when I pick again. So, i'm just gonna pick the guys I absolutely I know I want. I want Downtown

I'm almost certain i'll be assigning him his 1979-80 season, but I want to be completely sure.

And I applauded MJ for the "bold" Bird pick... Fred Brown is a bold 1st rounder... I respect the attempt from Wojoaderge to start with the roleplayers(high level ones) before stars. Seems superduper risky to me, best of luck though!

I'm still deciding what I think about it. I applaud drafting based on the type of team you want to build, but he better be trying to build a competitive team.

Is it too late to change years? I thought Wilt's shot attempts will be adjusted for todays game lol

You didn't even have to officially specify years right now, you just had to pick a player, and keep FGAs in mind for yourself, so that you won't exceed 85 total for all of your players when you already have 8 of them.

Re: All-Time Fantasy Draft With FGA Limit - Draft Thread
Lots of talent fell to me that I wasn't expecting... I feel bad about leaving those guys on the board.
But the guy I want is Magic Johnson. I've been watching a lot of late 80s/early 90s Magic and I'm in love with the dude's game. I underestimated his prowess as a scorer from the high post, and his playmaking deserves every flowery adjective I could come up with. Given the success of players like Boris Diaw, Blake Griffin and Draymond Green, I think the big playmaker is a perfect player to build a modern offense around and I have a clear vision of the type of team I can build around him.
Plus I wouldn't miss the chance to have a rivalry with Doc
