Getting a 3rd seed or a 6th would make quite a big difference.

Insight into what Cliff said to the players in the Spurs game:

For Lee, the memorable moments were the first-half timeout huddles and halftime tongue-lashing Clifford delivered after they fell behind 30-7 in the second quarter against the Spurs a few days ago.

"As a unit and as a team, we were embarrassed by that," Lee said. "This is our home court and you saw a lot of Spurs fans out there. And we came out there and laid an egg. So we can't do that."

Lin offered the PG-rated version of Clifford's message.

"It's never fun having so many different things challenged about you in the timeout, from your readiness to how much you care to, you know, whether you're afraid of other people, to your manhood," Lin said. "It was all different types of things. The natural response from us was, 'Well forget it, let's go.'"......

"At times, it looked bleak and we were struggling," Lin said. "But we always felt, on paper, if we do this right, if we buy in, if guys get healthy and stay healthy, we have a chance ... that we belong in the top tier of the East. From the outside ... no one thought we were going to be any good. Whether we're changing that opinion or not, I don't know. But on the inside, we always felt we could make noise."

Congradz!

That should lead to some COTY talk?

Last year and the one prior Clifford inherited a collection of stiffs. Fans were hard on him. Braggins and others led the charge but I know you all are happy to be proven wrong. Clifford was a steal. I've liked him since day one. Check the tape.

ETA: took a trip down memory lane and went to page 1 of this thread. Wow.

Cliff was legitimately bad in a lot of areas his first two seasons. He still is far from perfect but he has improved a ton. I'm glad he is panning out and once Al is finally gone I won't really have any major problems with his coaching. I still lose my mind when he makes me endure long stretches of Al.

Terrific job by Cliff, good adjustments, gets the players to play hard, asks them to keep taking good shots even tho they're missing, good substitutions, great D.

He is easily a top 5 coach and arguably the best this year.

I can't wait until al is gone either but not a lot of other options on our roster

Going bigger wasn't the reason Hornets win G3-5, and Clifford never realized that.
Most NBA stats aren't credible. At most times the people who interprets those data are biased, or the data themselves are flawed. Basketball is just too complicated with so many uncontrollable variables.

I love the way Cliff handles things and part of me lives vicariously through him. I like his use of analytics and logic and the "better than the sum of its parts" team approach. I might be more sold on him than most of the rest of the team personnel. I think we might look back on this season and his stubborn adjustments and be impressed with what he got done with the pieces before him. No two way center, often without wings, backup quality guys asked to play major minutes, guys out of the league or past their time getting burn out of necessity, etc.

Meh. I'm still not a big fan of Cliff. He's always been super good at some things and really bad at others. This was a good year for him that helped highlight some of his strengths. You guys have done a good job of talking about some of those.

On the negative side
* he had a roster built for him for the first time ... system coaches need this, but better coaches can adapt to their roster
* injures helped force his hand on PT yet again
* we had a young player leave and do well elsewhere (usually a sign of bad coaching)

I don't hate him, and I do think that he's far better than some of the guys we've had here previously. However I think that our other coaches were so bad that it makes Cliff's average overall performance look better than it really is.
My picks:
2020 Draft (3rd pick) - Tyrese Haliburton, Devin Vassell, or Onyeka Okongwu
2021 Draft (11th pick) - Moses Moody

Box score checking tonight and I noticed the Warriors played 11. Not a fan of Clifford's strategy of limiting the number in the playoffs apparently.

On average, Cliff played 10 guys a night during the series and 14 total guys saw floor time. 9 guys averaged at least 10 minutes per night and only 2 guys (Kemba, Lee) played more than 32 minutes per game. Really difficult for me to see complaints about playing time and guys seeing the floor
