Byron Scott Fired

Post#201 » by gts1 » Wed Apr 27, 2016 9:47 pm

Raptors Assistant coach Rex Kalamian was on Mason and Ireland today. Explained Ollie Durant/ Westbrook dynamic. It was in the first hour about 30 minutes in for you podcast listeners.

Basically talked about Ollie taking Durant Westbrook and Harden under his wing and teaching them how to be pros. Also had nothing but high praise for Ollie and how he got to where he is today. Cited his work ethic, intelligence and communication skills with players keys to his success.

Also Rex Kalamian himself. Worth a listen. This guy is bright and will be in the rumor mills as a possible head coach in no time.

'Scuse the the punctuated style, long post on a phone and all that

Sounds like no matter who the Lakers get, some people will be upset. The problem with 10-million fans.

I personally don't think much of Blatt. Alot like Spoelstra (spelling). Spoelstra coached Miami nowhere, Lebron came, and they were suddenly good. Lebron leaves, and they miss the playoffs. The fact is, Lebron completely owns the East right now. Like the guy said a few posts ago, Tyrone Lue is about to "coach his team to the finals".

This is my issue with Walton. Yeah....he coached GS for 3 months, and they tore it up. Is he a good coach, or was he just house-sitting?

If I'm Jim, I don't try and knock it out of the park. I try and get someone that will "hit a double"....get this team into scoring position for the next coach. Someone who can deal with the pressure, and who has a history of developing guys.

My theory is that we are rebuilding right now. Even if Durant comes to the Lakers AND we get this pick, you really can't be looking at finals just yet. Its still a few years off. What you can't do, if your Lakers, is whiff yet again, on some coach who continues to do nothing with this team, is a bad fit, etc etc. You gotta get someone you KNOW is gonna start moving things forward. And if he gets us to the top, awesome...if he doesnt, you replace him after a playoff exit or two.

If they get Luke or Ollie, I will of course back them. But It's not what I'd go for.

The fact that Blatt have had a great winning record while coaching LeBron shouldn't be a bad sign at all. people who followed after the Cavs was always impressive by the creative and smart ways Blatt adjusted to in-game situations, the way he sets inbound plays, or the way the Cavs was consistently playing at an elite defense while having at their starting line-up 2 defensive holes in Kyrie and Love. Blatt has shown a lot of good signs - in spite of coaching LeBron. Even though he throws his offensive original plans in the first training camp because LeEgo wanted to make it clear who is the boss in this team, and of course, Blatt in his first year in this league no way would be fight against the most powerful player in the world who holding his organization from their balls. Yet Blatt has found other ways to maximize the team talent and making a d-league players like TT and Delly (talent wise) into a big part of an NBA Finals caliber players and to be a step from winning it all while facing a major adversity.

Blatt has succeed in many teams and competitions before even came in to CLE so people don't really need to show it like the only way Blatt has succeed is because of LeBron. I would look at it in a different way, it's scary to think how strong the Cavs could be if LeBron hasn't made Blatt's first year in this league as though as he did with his stupid nonsense behavior. And the way Blatt dealt with the whole situation was pretty impressive to me. I would also look at his whole time in CLE as a great experience with some extreme situations most of the coaches in the NBA doubtfully would be ever facing. NBA Finals as a first year coach, dealing with the most powerful player in this generation, dealt with major injuries coming playoffs, high expectations from day one.. pretty good experience.

Pistol King:

Fair enough. I agree that that is alot to throw on a guy his first year in the league.

We signed Luke, so it is a moot point now...but I'd like to see Blatt get another chance. Id like to see him coach a 'decent' team now, and see what he does with it. Hopefully he gets a chance. Personally I agree that he at least did good enough to warrant a 2nd chance in this league.

Byron said on a radio show he was 'blindsided' by the firing. It's that kind of keen insight and grasp of the situation that ... got him fired
