I asked Peter Feigin on Tuesday when 4th St would be closed down and he does not have an answer for that yet.

Kind of weird since we don't have a main ice tenant (Thought the Admirals made it official they won't be there). Is it really profitable to have ice and maintain all year for a few disney on ice shows?

Bring me the Frozen Four and a Predators preseason game or two every year, please. Bet the new arena could host the Midwest or West Regional nearly every year if they wanted to.

It will be closed, that was already approved (still needs final common council approval though)

I was more asking when it will actually, logistically, be closing down this summer for construction.

http://www.jsonline.com/blogs/business/377443801.html

The newly approved lease for the future home of the Milwaukee Bucks mentions a possible casino connection to the arena's naming rights.

That provision doesn't mean Milwaukee's Potawatomi Hotel Casino will have its name attached to the basketball arena. But it does lay the ground work for that potential move.

The Bucks have naming rights for the new arena, which will be owned by the Wisconsin Center District and leased to the basketball club. That lease was signed this month.

BMO Harris Bank is the primary corporate sponsor for the BMO Harris Bradley Center, the team's current home.

But that arena also has corporate sponsors for its four main entrances: Miller Lite, one of the main brands owned by MillerCoors LLC; Northwestern Mutual; Kohl's Department Stores, and Potawatomi Hotel Casino.

The managers of the hotel and casino, which the Forest County Potawatomi Community operates in Milwaukee's Menomonee Valley, haven't yet been involved in any discussions with the Bucks about naming rights in the new arena, spokesman Ryan Amundson said.

"I don’t think it suggests anything at this point," said Amundson, external communications manager. "As a current sponsor, I’m sure they’re just covering their bases with that language."

"We’ll decline to indicate whether any company is, or isn’t, a potential naming rights partner at this point," said Jake Suski, Bucks senior vice president, communications and broadcast.

The lease's naming rights provision says the arena cannot have a name that is "in bad taste," would be "a cause for embarrassment" to Wisconsin Center District, or "include any companies known for tobacco products, guns, adult entertainment or marijuana or other non-pharmaceutical drugs."

The provision, however, says that clause wouldn't be violated if the arena name is "related to a casino unless such particular arena name is otherwise in bad taste or a cause for embarrassment."

The district is a state-created public agency which operates the Wisconsin Center convention facility and other downtown venues. It has a 30-year lease agreement with the Bucks that was signed on April 13.

The Bucks plan to break ground on June 18 on the $524 million project, which will be developed just north of the BMO Harris Bradley Center. The new facility is to open before the start of the 2018-'19 season.

Chicago-based BMO Harris Bank might have interest in the future arena's naming rights, but "it’s really too early to say at the moment," said Patrick O'Herlihy, company spokesman.

"We’re big Milwaukee Bucks fans, and we’re excited about the progress being made by the ownership team," he said.

Would the smoothie king center be cause for embarrassment. Because I think that's a shocking name.

NBA is against any kind of association with companies, despite past hypocrisy (Orlando Magic?) and incoming ad space. Memphis wanted to rename their team The Express, because of FedEx's presence and hub in the city and naming rights to the arena, but the NBA squashed that. I think it would have been awesome, actually. I bet any kind of nods to "Bucks" in the dollar signs and allusions to a casino's naming rights will not be liked by the NBA, even if they are moving toward an interest in betting.

Once they start putting ads on jerseys it's just the start of pimping out everything they can for cash.

Anyone going to this tonight? If so, we'd love some hot recap action:

http://www.jsonline.com/news/our-first-js-talks-will-focus-on-downtown-arena-b99717538z1-378027321.html

Vibrant cities need meeting spaces where folks from all ages and walks of life can mingle, listen, learn and share ideas.

We're hoping to encourage more of this in Milwaukee starting Thursday with an open dialogue about the new Bucks arena and developments planned around it. We're calling it JS Talks, and it begins at 6 p.m. at Turner Hall, 1034 N. 4th St.

Independent architect Stephen Chung, host of the PBS show "Cool Spaces," will join Bucks President Peter Feigin and lead arena architects Brad Clark and Greg Uhen. The discussion will be moderated by Mary Louise Schumacher, Journal Sentinel art and architecture critic, and Tom Daykin, Journal Sentinel commercial real estate reporter.
