I guess it's my turn...

Now that I have Cap and the tres mosqueteros (Billups/Manu/Harden combo), scoring and playmaking as a need is sated (for now), the giant hole that is my SF/PF lineup however, is another issue entirely.

For my PF, I need someone who is:
- mobile enough to come out to defend the PnR on the perimeter
- sets tough screens to free my my shooters/guards (and rolls hard)
- Does the dirty work (gets loose balls, tip-ins) for the team
- Happy with very little set plays/shots per game.

With these issues in mind, I pick raptors legend and statistical darling, Amir Johnson (2010)

Image

Best RAPM per 100 possessions from 01-14:
rank Name Ovr/100
1 LeBron James 5.64
2 Tim Duncan 5.40
3 Manu Ginobili 5.07
4 Kevin Garnett 4.67
5 Dwyane Wade 4.58
6 Dirk Nowitzki 4.52
7 Shaquille O'Neal 4.44
8 Chris Paul 3.88
9 Kobe Bryant 3.59
10 Amir Johnson 3.55

Damned efficient (62% FG, 124 ORTG), and takes like no shots (4.1 FGA), great!

By the way - I'm really surprised you didn't take LeBron #1 overall. Actually, to me it wasn't really a question whether you would take LeBron, but who would you surround him with. :)

Both Shaq and LeBron are GOAT peaks, imo, so it was basically a coin flip for me. I've already done some thought exercises building around LeBron so I figured I would try something new and go with Shaq. Plus the forum has a better opinion of Shaq's peak than LeBron's, so maybe that will help me in the playoffs judging :D

I think in your position I would have picked Lebron, only because that 2.4 FGA or whatever it is can be pretty huge.

Ultimately I don't judge the Shaq pick whatsoever because 1. it is atleast in contention for GOAT peak and 2. I did the same explorative thing you did with Curry.

I think you've made an amazing team around him and i'm really upset about you stealing Posey from me lol

You have freaking Pippen as your starting forward. Posey is my starter lol, probably the weakest starter on any team so far. Iggy was so close!

Alright i'd like to thank a couple people for some insight and a friendly push in the right direction on this pick-

I'll take '81 Artis Gilmore. Solid scoring on only 10 FGA/G, great defensive impact and great hair.

Sorry, I went to see Civil War. It was pretty good

Back to picking from amongst my all-time favorites. If all goes as planned, this selection will be my sole tip of the hat to the 21st century - if 1999-2000 counts. I'm 95% sure of this

To round out their starting 5, the Saggitarius A* Spacemen select point guard Mike Conley Jr.

Image

As I've said in the past, Magic's ability to run both ends of a pick and roll is quite important to me. Conley's an ace pick and roll guard, and one of the best game managers I've seen. I like him as a perimeter ball handler as a guy who can throw entry passes to Magic in the high post and someone who can run a weak side pick and roll to take advantage of broken defenses. Plus he's a tough as nails guy with a great attitude, who's going to fiercely defend opposing small guards and never get caught in a screen. Perfect fit as the 5th starter since he's proven he's willing to do whatever a coach asks, and his show-don't- tell style of play is a nice counterpoint to guys like Sheed and Magic.

He's a nominal starter, but I do plan to stagger the rotations such that he's more of a 6th man and captain of the bench unit. I'll close with him on the floor as well. I'm veering headfirst into the FGA limit now, but I don't care because I'm so in love with the balance Conley brings me.

Tim Duncan, 2002-2003, 17.2 FGA/G
MVP, FMVP, All-NBA First Team, All-Defensive First Team, All Star
RS: 22.3 PTS on 56.4 TS%, 12.4 TRB, 3.1 AST, 0.9 STL, 2.7 BLK, 112 ORTG, 94 DRTG, 26.9 PER, .248 WS/48, +7.4 BPM
PS: 24.7 PTS on 57.7 TS%, 15.4 TRB, 5.3 AST, 0.6 STL, 3.3 BLK, 116 ORTG, 92 DRTG, 28.4 PER, .279 WS/48, +11.6 BPM

A few reasons for this pick. I feel it gives me more flexibility with my next pick, due to his versatile skillset and ability to play on both offensively and defensively oriented teams. Also if I can acquire an elite volume scorer at 24, he will not have an issue taking on a secondary role. He is a better passer and PnR player than the other two players I considered (and also takes up fewer FGAs), and I have built in other mocks around several of the other options here, so wanted to try something different. While I hoped for Curry or Bird, I can't complain about the value I got.

My center is a 4-time DPOY, averaged 4.1 bpg in the season I selected, and my guards averaged 5.0 spg between the two of them. Think about it, guys.

you have some really good defensive team and probably the best but I think I got a team close to you in defensive impact. My starting lineup most likely wont be as good as yours in defense unless I find some defensive PF stud.

Just for fun how would you rank our players from best to worst by defensive impact.

I guess Mutombo or Ben Wallace could have the first place but in third place it has to be Kawhi, jordan 4th and then I am not sure about the rest of the order but Tmac is probably in last place

I have a question for you guys: Would you leave an MVP type player on the board for fit and select a guy who's not even All Star level (assuming the MVP type player also fits well and the other player has All Star impact just not numbers)?

I'm just wondering because some of these teams can make some big moves but I'm noticing they aren't taking them.

Will be a while. Can't believe that Conley went one ******* pick before me (to a team that already has a nominal PG no less)

If the MVP type player also fits why wouldn't -said drafter- take him?

Possibly slightly lower FGs I'll admit I don't know these guy's plans but there's a few picks where I could see a better option in a better player who isn't similar but doesn't step on the toes of the rest of the team.

If you are interested in being a reserve you can sign up in the fantasy draft over on the T&T Games board. It is basically this exact game except that it is a modern era draft (from 2000-2016) versus this all time draft.

Yea please sign up. I think it's more than likely we'll have an abandoned team and we are barely into the first round.
