Just think he would have much more value to another team and so it may make sense to trade him.

Even at the 5-6-7 spot the value of a more veteran player would have to be pretty high and he'd have to be under a long term contract to give up the pick. I'm certainly open to it but to give up a locked in (realistic)minimum 7 years of a prospect is tough to pass on. So long as you trust your scouting staff and decision making it really should be a no brainer to keep the pick and add to this young core. The fact that there is at least somewhat of a conflict of interest in having the dual head coach/president of basketball operations puts that decision up in the air. Hopefully Things realizes this squad should be peaking at the same time and takes the patient approach.

My very limited viewing of prospects big board right now is probably:
Ingram
Bender
Simmons
Luwawu
Murray
Buddy
Dunn
Brown
Poeltl

For college ball experts, how does Buddy Hield compare to Ben Mclemore and Gary Harris?

Also is Middleton a reasonable ceiling for hield?

Mclemore was/is much more athletic. Harris was much more ready as a freshman.

Hield is a better shooter than either of them.

Nope cant compare Middleton to heild. Middleton has the measurables of a starting caliber wing heild doesn't. Middleton plays like Joe Johnson but with a 3 point shot. (Post ups, playmaker, defender and 3 point shooter) Heild will either figure it out as a volume scorer prototypical to how the NBA is going and able to produce enough offense to over look average Defense or he will just become a floor spacer adding depth in that area for a team.

I would say a JJ Redick is a reasonable ceiling....scores 16 points per game but provides little else. Similar builds and skillsets.

Middleton is 6'8 3&D wing. While Buddy is an undersized SG.

Yeh reddick is a good comparison for heild but also Murray. But the fact Murray did what he did at the age he did it and the fact he has PG skills puts him a head of hield IMO.

Murray is a different player. I wouldn't compare him to Redick at all. I'd look at him as more of a Brandon Roy.

Oh he's undersized as SG? Still won't he play the same 3&D wing role? Or is his defense not good?

Hield is 6-4, he's definitely undersized. That lack of size and athleticism will also limit him on defense from being a true 3/D wing.

He's the same size as CJ McCollum - 6'4", 214 lbs. Not ideal height for a SG but as McCollum and Reddick have proved, that's not a huge problem if you can shoot.

Hence, undersized.

McCollum is actually an interesting comp for Murray.

I don't want that type of player as a high lottery pick in the draft. I can't imagine him as a "Thibs" type of guy either, unless I'm missing out on the fact that he's actually a great defensive player...which I'm assuming he's not even though I'm essentially profiling him as a cliched big white man who doesn't defend... :usa:

I don't know if Ford thinks he's "one of us," but it's not hard to see why a national outlet would link him to us. PF is arguably our biggest need, and Ellenson is the best PF on the board according to most nationally.

After the top three guys, I'm at a point where I could be comfortable with about 10 different guys being our pick.

Ellenson has crap lateral mobility, he will get abused on D... I doubt Thibs wants him, Bjelica is more useful.

If we're gonna draft a big white guy, Poeltl looks to be more helpful, he can certainly backup Towns... I'd buy a Vet to play PF/C in any case. We'll probably pick seventh knowing our luck.
