Today is the start of the NBA Combine and the Rockets don't have a head coach yet. We have 2 second round picks in the top 13 of the second round.
Harden is still a work-in-progress. He can score, but he can't help his teammate that much - Yao Ming

You've said this many times, I still don't get why it matters

Because the next coach should have input on who to draft and it matters more with the non stars. Not just seeing their skills but conducting interviews.

Also can Morey effectively look for a coach and attend the combine at the same time? Probably not so at least another week before a hire. Will there be a coach before the private workouts and actual draft itself in June?

This is Year 1 of the new format that allows players, as never before, to get pre-draft information as to their draft status and standing with NBA officials. It also gives NBA people more and better access to players, both for this year’s draft, and for future ones.

Another day and no news?

I know that they are doing their due diligence, but I'm ready for some real Rockets news this offseason. The sooner I can feel like the team has moved on from the past season the better. To do that I'd like to see this coaching decision made soon.

Wouldn't expect much movement on the coach front this week with Combine going on.

Interesting tidbits from last year:

Syracuse forward Chris McCullough said the Houston Rockets asked how many human beings he thought could fit in the hotel room he was sitting in, and Georgia State guard R.J. Hunter said the Dallas Mavericks asked him how many basketballs could fit in the room, so maybe the Rockets care more about people and the Mavericks care more about basketball? Or maybe no one really knows the point of this all?

Kentucky forward Trey Lyles said the Rockets asked him to describe the last thing he argued about with his father.

they mentioned it took them 4 months to hired McHale
so don't expect any time soon
it will be funny come July 1st and they are trying to lure big name free agent to come here without a head coach

4 months? Rick Adelman was fired 4/19/11 and McHale was hired 6/1/11 so it didn't take that long

More like "guy who was second in mvp voting and bitched about it all summer"

If he was so attractive Brooks and Thibs would have waited like you thought they would and Joeger and Walton would not have cancelled their meetings with us.

Saying he thought he was MVP when asked about it directly is bitching about it all summer?

And those guys all had their minds made up, Hou didn't seem to have much interest in Joerger, Walton wanted the LA job, Minnesota job was by FAR the best job available and there's nothing really wrong with that, and Washington just paid Brooks way more than Les would've (and more than he's worth honestly)

Apparently they will be making their decision around the end of the week and JVG is the front runner
