How is that a "homerun"? Votto will turn 33 this year and is going to be paid $25 mill per year until he's 40. 4-0. He's also been complete trash this season. The fact that he's "locked up until 2024" is a BAD thing, not a good thing. You think he's still going to be an elite hitter at age 37, 38, 39, 40? He may not even be elite anymore at 35, let alone those back end years.

That deal would be the most anti-Shapiro move of all time.

I'm not worried about his slow start this year but ya, his contract is a negative not a positive. I do think his outstanding batting eye will make him productive into his late 30's. That seems to be a common trait in players who age well.

Votto would be absolutely perfect at the top of the lineup.

But, fanciful trade ideas aside, ownership isn't taking on that much money.

Maddon gave Harper the Bonds treatment yesterday.

He walked 6 times and was also HBP in 7 plate appearances. Became only the 4th player ever to record 6 walks in a game.

Cubs won 4-3 in 13.

For those wondering where our offense went this season, the answer is Boston. They were already leading the league in runs scored before posting 35 runs in 23 innings vs Oakland so far this series.

Taking a look at the standings Baltimore and Boston are 2 tough teams the Jays are going to have to win more than they lose against them come August time.
It's obvious but Baltimore is building up quite the win%. That's the only number that matters in the end.

Boston has scored 124 runs in their last 16 games. That's just shy of 8 per game. 13-3 record over that period.

So much for the White Sox dream start. They blow a 6-run, 9th inning lead to the Royals who have now beaten them again today and taken over 1st in the Central.

On todays broadcast they were talking about Jays attendance and i checked how other teams were doing and was a bit surprised to see Cleveland last with 15k and they have a winning record. What the hell is going on there? How did we end up with the guy that a left a team averaging 15k a game?

I recently read that Clevelands economy was really depressed. Even worse than Detroit. I'm sure with MLB ticket prices climbing that doesn't help fill the seats. And those that do have money are likely spending it on the Cavs.

It also wouldn't be the first time Cleveland has struggled with attendance. There was obviously a long period of time where the Jake was sold out (in fact they had a major league record 455 straight sell outs between 95-2001) but outside of the Browns no team there gets unconditional loyalty especially, like you said, when a struggling economy has three teams to support.

Yordano Ventura apparently announced recently he was planning to hit Bautista next time he faces him:

http://sports.yahoo.com/news/the-reason-why-the-royals-have-considered-trading-yordano-ventura-071920349-mlb.html

Recently, inside the Kansas City Royals’ clubhouse, Yordano Ventura was talking about how he planned on hitting Jose Bautista with a pitch the next time he faced him. The people around Ventura rolled their eyes, tired of the bluster, done with the immaturity, hopeful he was playing fugazi instead of the on-field arsonist they’d seen too many times for their liking. Among his teammates and in the Royals’ front office alike, they’ve long waited for Ventura to grow up, only to end up amazed at how he manages to plumb beneath even his own low standards.

Article says the Royals have been shopping him.
