I appreciate the work a8bil, and I'm probably leaning more in your direction on the Klay issue. Especially when you look at your list and compare the fg%'s of the other top guys to Klay, because all those other top guys tend to get fouled a lot and also drive to the hoop and score better than Klay there. The fact that Klay shoots good percentage and shoots the majority of his shots from distance tells you how crazy good he can shoot the ball at times.
I did a little exercise to prove your point, using TS%, to take into account players shooting more 3s but at a lower fg%, and also players who draws more FTs. It is quite time consuming and I only looked at Klay, Butler, DeRozan, and Harden, but should be representative enough as they are all SGs at the top/mid/bottom of the following list:
Curry - 2
Durant - 2
LJ - 2
DeRozan - 3
Klay - 4
Westbrook - 4
Wade - 5
Hayward - 6
Reddick - 6
Butler - 7
Lillard - 7
Wiggins- 7
Love -8
Nowitsky - 8
Wall - 8
Harden - 9
George - 9
Anthony - 9
Lowry - 10
DeRozan (38 games)
average ts% .549
<= .500 9 24%
<= .450 2 5%
standard deviation 0.072909324
Klay (34 games)
average ts% .604
<= .500 10 (29%)
<= .450 5 (15%)
standard deviation 0.136793888
Butler (34 games)
average ts% .571
<= .500 7 21%
<= .450 4 12%
standard deviation 0.12512833
Harden (37 games)
average ts% .581
<= .500 12 32%
<= .450 7 19%
standard deviation 0.123927483
What these numbers show, is that despite Butler has more low fg% games than Klay, his ability to get ft bails him out and he actually has fewer low ts% games than Klay.
But if you compare Klay and Harden, who is further down the list, even he gets ft, it is not enough for him and he still has more low ts% games compared to Klay.
Also notice Klay's average ts% is the best among these 4 guys.
Klay's higher standard deviation also tells us that his numbers have a larger variation from the average, which is why he is much more likely to get a 37 point quarter, than a guy like DeRozan.
When Klay is scoring consecutive 30+ points games, I am not having any complains anymore.
It is funny when you look at these numbers, for a guy like DeRozan with a ts% of .549 average, he also have the fewest games with a ts% below .450.
I won't even bother to look up Steph's #s, because it will be crazy because he has a crazy ts% average plus he gets many fts. It will be off the charts.
