Yeh, this team and makeup were not to Skiles strengths and vice versa. Unfortunately, the team will take a step back in moving forward. Skiles would have led us to the playoffs next year.

I appreciate Skiles for quitting after one year instead of making us suffer through a prolonged Skiles Era. I also appreciate how he made Martins look bad. This franchise got a mulligan.

Are you native speaker? I'm not and even I find it extremely ridiculous.
As for Skiles, at first I'd liked him to stay one more year. He might instill more defensive priciples amongst the squad. But under just revealed circumstances it was not possible. Actually he **** us up big time. I blame this on him and Martins (stay the hell out of personel decisions, you inept fool).

Why? It's entirely possible the next coach does an even better job and we take a step forward or two. With all our guys a year older and AG brimming with confidence, I really think it won't be hard to improve.

He brought the toughness that JV lacked. So thanks for that.

Learning 3 systems in an 18 month time period is usually not a recipe for success. If Henny strikes gold in Free Agency, then I see improvement, but if we end up with the same core, it will be extremely hard to surpass last seasons record. The East is looking that strong next year.

As long as the new coach is here in time for training camp it will be fine. JV really had no system of note, so it's just 2

Re: Scott Skiles Appreciation Thread
Gonna stay positive after bashing him all year.
One thing I really liked about Skiles was his honesty. You really knew where he stood. You may not agree with him or like him but he was going to lay it out there. That was refreshing after a few years of the JV bs. I also liked his willingness to hold players accountable and his attempts to instill a sense of responsibility.
Also, finally, credit to him for calling it quits in the manner he did. A lot of coaches would have hung on until the organization fired them to collect checks even though they had checked out on coaching (Read: George Karl) -- however, Skiles is not that guy. Full credit to him on that.

I'll give him props for bringing accountability and some added toughness to the team. These young guys needed that disciplinarian for a year to shake off the tanking mentality. Thank you for that, but nothing else. Good riddance and wish you would have taken your BFF Martins with you.

Learning the "system" is not a big deal in the NBA. Teams make trades at the deadline, and those players play without one practice most of the time (much less a whole offseason and training camp). I dont think playing in a new "system" will hurt our players one bit.

thanks for killing the confidence of Mario, and playing our "best" lineup together for 75 minutes (Elf/Dipo/Mario/Gordon/Vuc) all year.

Skiles has always been a flawed coach... now he's a flawed coach that quit soon after he took the job. We weren't winning crap next season without his heart/mind in it. It's no different than a player who has checked out... you're not going to get the best out of them. I appreciate that Skiles recognized he doesn't have the passion anymore to grind through wins with a young team. His head coaching days are over.

Re: Scott Skiles Appreciation Thread
This thread was a bad idea given the prevailing views on this board.
Not to worry, around December half the posters who are rejoicing now we think the new coach is even worse.
Personally I appreciate what he did and wish all the best. No point guessing what the issue was between him and the management, we'll never know for sure. He could have half-assed it for another season or two but decided to quit instead which is a good thing in my book.
