After the first track, I would describe this album as basically 10 straight versions of the first 2 minutes of "How to Disappear Completely" except they decide to not give you the payoff at the end of the song. That might even be giving it too much credit. Jonny Greenwood is now a composer and creates cool violin arrangements...cool...can we get some real, actual songs with them?
EDIT: OK, ****. The finally recorded version of "True Love Waits" is kind of good.
I haven't bought the album yet, but am listening to Daydreaming and Burn the Witch a bunch this week. I totally agree with the assessment that they lack the payoff. The build up is certainly there that we are used to with various Radiohead songs (Pyramid Song, for example), but the huge orchestral finale is missing at the end. Even in Burn the Witch, it ends with the violin shrieking when I expect other instruments accompanying them, looping over the melody in the background. I think these two songs will be awesome live, and they'll further manipulate them and give audiences that pay off. I could see them opening their tour with Burn the Witch and closing with a long extended Daydreaming, which would be similar to various tours where they end with songs like Everything in its Right Place. The song has the potential to fool around with the various loops. But in its studio version, it ends with **** Thom Yorke snoring! Seriously...
Anyway, I'm a bit scared to buy the rest of the album. I think I will eventually, but the Itunes previews leave me wanting more.
