Around the NBA

Post#1 » by bwgood77 » Fri May 13, 2016 1:52 pm

For talk about coaching changes, offseason moves, lottery results, etc...please try and keep playoff talk in that thread, if only because we often have similar conversations in two places.

Well, there is a playoffs thread, so you would probably get more activity there. I was hoping this would be more for discussion on what happens with teams outside of the playoffs, the draft lottery, and then once the finals are over, that thread will die and it all comes here.

Can we make predictions for the top 3? I'll start: #1 - Los Angeles Lakers, #2 - New Orleans Pelicans, #3 - Boston Celtics.
SHAZAM!

Suns traded Mikal Bridges, Cam Johnson, Jae Crowder and 4 1st round picks and a swap so some Vegas Bookies would like us.

I imagine Brooklyn and Lakers positions will be of interest to Ryan McDonough.

Hope we didn't swap 3 useless wins and Brandon Knight for picks 1 and 4.

I was just hoping for a simple "permission denied" so I could add to the joke, but you ruined it. It's over now.

Our worst possible outcome.

1. Utah
2. Minnesota
3. Washington
4. Philly
5. Philly via Lakers
6. Boston via Brooklyn
7. Phoenix

Our chief young rivals going forward get top two and we lose Washington pick. Or Pelicans get top two also to add one of those guys to AD. Minnesota will probably be set anyway with who they have plus Hield or Murray or Ellenson.

Might as well contemplate the possibility.

This is how I expect the lottery to go, as the Suns cannot catch a break, nor will they ever catch a break.

Where the Suns pick in this year's draft will impact the franchise for the next 10 or more years. If they get the number one pick and the player they draft ends up being a superstar, the Suns could become a real contender within a few years if they make the right moves. If they do not get at least a top three pick, the chances of the player they draft becoming a superstar drops off significantly, and so does the outlook of the franchise. Amazing how the NBA draft lottery can actually make or break a franchise. The NBA is the only league I can think of where building a champion is based more on luck than anything else. The Suns have never won the draft lottery before and they have never won a championship.

Had a dream last night that we drafted Ben Simmons.

If we get one of the top two players in the draft the future becomes very different for the Suns. We can start to look to build a very good team. If we dont get a high draft pick and find some players to fill our needs then expect the Suns to do what they have been doing in the off season and that is over pay to bring in a few players who will hold them into the late lottery for the foreseeable future.
Just say no to idiots!!

Wizards won the lottery first two times I simmed it today.
2 days away from finding out who we will be propping up for the next month until the draft where puke gifs will run rampant.

I simmed it a few times this morning also and Suns got 2nd pick first two tries. They probably got first a couple others out of the 7 or 8 times I did it and 5th or 6th the rest.

Call me greedy but I wouldn't be satisfied even if by some miracle we land Simmons/Ingram, that doesn't transform us into a contender overnight and we still need a complete roster overhaul/influx of talent to get there which may require actively tanking. Neither are can't miss prospects. Simmons is more a sure thing but his skillset is a novelty for his position, I see him capping out as an All-Star alternate if he remains a tweener defensively with limited range and no killer instinct. Ingram would rank behind several wings in past classes, but he has a higher two-way ceiling , has that "it factor" and is just what the modern NBA is looking for. Its unlikely but I don't think its out of the possibility that someone taken outside the Top 2 becomes the best player in this draft, it just won't be one of the guards IMO
