I love how the general consensus is there's no need to rush him here and he's just changing the perception of that zero by zero.

Corey not helping Kazmir out today with his shoddy play at SS. :banghead:

Defensive Drag

Post#1044 » by Ranma » Sun May 15, 2016 2:21 am

I just knew the Cardinals would score from 3B on the fly ball to the outfield. It wasn't that deep but Crawford's noodle arm didn't give us a chance for a play at the plate.

Seager with Impressive At-Bat

Post#1045 » by Ranma » Sun May 15, 2016 2:40 am

Corey lines a sharp single to atone a little for his two fielding errors to put the Dodgers up 1 with the bases still loaded and nobody out. I was thinking that Roberts should have called for the bunt with the infield back, but Seager was calm and in control in that at-bat versus Carlos Martinez. Corey ably fought off two foul balls at 99 mph and 101 mph before his RBI hit.

I didn't think I was gonna have the opportunity to say this in a month or two, but Scott Kazmir really pitched well so far. 4 SO, 1H and 1BB. he got lucky from Puig's grab earlier and Im sure I missed a couple or defensive gem but he has pitched like what we paid and expected him to be.

Kazmir & Seager

Post#1053 » by Ranma » Sun May 15, 2016 3:22 am

I missed the Puig Web Gem, but saw it on replay afterwards. Kazmir seemed to be bothered and out of sorts from Seager's 2nd error of the game, but he was able to recover and put up a solid outing, which even includes a bunt single that eventually led to runs being scored.

Seager just went yard with a solo shot over the CF wall.

Seager showing some good mental toughness.

Didn't let the 2 errors bother him.
Made some good picks and throws to A-Gon after. Hit with the bases loaded. A homer.

Nice bounce back from pissing me the hell off....lol, jk.

Oh didn't seem to fool Turner on any of his pitches but was able to get out of the inning on the flyout to right-centerfield.

that's just it, to me, that if Seager can just be around the league average defensively as a SS, his offense should carry him to be an elite at his position. he has not hit like we all know he can and his ceiling is only rivaled by the likes of Kris Bryant, Manny Machado, Bryce Harper and Mike Trouts of this game. once he gets his game locked in, the entire MLB better watch out.

and if he doesn't ever become that elite superstar, he still should have a nice career that rivals guys of our past like Eric Karros or Pedro Guerrero as a multi-year allstar.

What a pleasant surprise from Kaz.

Throwing more 4 seamers?
Hit 94 a bunch of times today and 95 last inning.

Corey Seager's Ceiling

While I like Seager a lot, I'm not sure I would have his ceiling in the same category as Machado, Harper, Trout, or even Bryant's. He doesn't have the power of that quartet, though he could certainly boost his HR totals as he continues to mature, but I don't think he'll ever be as good defensively as Machado or Trout. In any case, I agree with you that he's a safe bet to be a really good player for the Dodgers with a decent chance to be an elite hitter.

Kazmir is going out for the 9th inning. If it wasn't for Seager's error, he'd have a shot at a shutout. Regardless of the outcome, Scott Kazmir had an impressive outing tonight for us.

Walk rate seems sustainable and his OBP is above average at .331 and roughly 60 points higher than his BA right now.

I expect to see both go up once he gets consistent with his hitting.
He's already out of the doldrums...getting his average up into the .270s this week.
