They have zero chance of beating Cavs and even less chance of winning a championship.
I'd say being mediocre is putting it nicely.
No one is planning the parade but how can you really get to this point by being mediocre though? Maybe they just play tough basketball?
SOMEONE has to be in the ECF by default. The east has improved but it's still bad.
Outside of the Cavs, how many contenders are there in the east? None, really.
Sure the raptors were the second seed in the east, but they wouldn't have the second best record in the west.
There wins are inflated due to playing so many bad teams in the east.
They wouldn't have a better record than warriors, Spurs, thunder, clippers, Grizzlies (if healthy), or even the Blazers if they played in the west.
So forgive if I'm not impressed by the raptors performance....
It was harder to make the playoffs in the East than the West for the first time in a long time. By that fact alone, its fair to establish that outside of teams like Philly and LA (the teams that took the worst beatings in each conference), there were more quality teams in the East.
I have to question your definition of 'contender'. They were definitely a top-five team in the league this season. Their depth has proven to be extremely resourceful through this series once more. Also they're still relatively young and inexperienced. All the teams you've listed here have lost games to Toronto in the regular season (some were swept). I think its time to give Toronto and the Eastern conference credit where its due.
