Roberts' Faith in His Players
I know Dave Roberts gets a hard time for doing this, but I like when he shows faith in his players to get out of a jam or finish a game. Obviously, it has to be within reason, but he's actually shown himself to be cautious whenever the situation calls for it. Remember pulling Stripling from his bid at a no-hitter during his debut? If his players earn a level of trust from his manager, I like that they're given the opportunity to challenge themselves whenever warranted.

I agree....he gets more equity in the clubhouse by going that route. A new guy with a quick hook might not have many fans in the locker room.
My goodness I am sweating bullets with JP Howell coming in.

Right on cue about players who've earned trust (and those who haven't), Roberts takes Howell out for Blanton after that fine defensive play by Utley near 2B.

Corey Seager: the Lone Gun in Dodgers' Offense
Corey just hit his 2nd HR of the night and his 3rd in 2 games, but alas, it was another solo shot so the Dodgers still trail the Cards by 3 runs.

He's Jeter in every sense of the word.
Baby faced do gooder (seemingly).
Going to be an elite hitter if he lives up to the hype.
Solid glove at SS, not elite but we'll pretend that isn't the case because we love the bat and love him.
Probably going to swear by him no matter what kind of season Russell, Lindor, or Correa are having.
Just don't give any of these gals herpes.

Puig out of the lineup again.
The fans notice when he's not in the lineup.
I hope him being in and out of the lineup doesn't affect the club house in any way shape or form.

wait... what?
Puig is out but Crawford is in? because Shoemaker is a rightie? Carl is hitting below .200 for the season and is currently sporting .220 against RHP this season so far. Puig's defense in the RF alone deserves him starting and he should be given at bats to work out his kink. Dave is finally testing my patience now.

I finally have come to accept that Joe just doesn't have good enough of stuff nor does he have a go to pitch to rely on when the heat is on. he is what he is, a very durable guy with enough savvy and know-how to get outs when not much is expected. he should be given his role and Dave must be consistent with how to use him. Joe Blanton, at this stage of his career, is a one hell of a mop-up duty guy who can give you multiple innings to be called a long relief. he isn't a closer, he isn't a setup man, and he sure ain't a high pressure situation fireman to come out of the pen with runners in scoring position late in games. bring him up when our starters botch up and we are playing catch up say, in the 5th or 6th inning. he has no overpowering stuff to rely on and his location can betray him in a hurry.
ehhhhh f it.

Crazy Legs Pederson Scores from 2B on Single
Joc Pederson showed why Shoemaker was preoccupied with him with those throws to 1B by scoring from 2B on Crawford's single to LF. Maeda then follows up with a run-scoring single of his own.

Re: 2016 Regular Season Thread
Maeda not shutting it down but any other LF in the league charges the ball, picks it up and the runner stays at 3rd.
instead, we get a ball air mailed to Yas and the hitter advancing to 2nd.
**** Carl Crawford.
and Maeda is looking like he is in srs trouble right now.

Crawford Called Out by Vin Scully
Vin made a point to say that Crawford knows better than to make that bad throw by saying Puig would have been heavily criticized if he had done the same thing. It's bad enough that his throwing arm had no chance to get the runner at the plate, but his decision to even try without a cut-off man having a chance to intercept the throw allowed a 2nd runner to get into scoring position. Apparently, Crawford is pressing to try to stand out to get the regular LF job. Instead, he solidified his place as an overpaid piece of dead weight.
Great. Now we're down a run with runners at 1B and 2B with 1 out and Maeda struggling.

I was thinking the same thing. many scouts spoke how smart he was but how his stuff was not up to the major league level... I still think Maeda can be a very effective middle of the rotation guy, but we really need healthy Ryu back.

MLB Adjusting to Maeda and Vice Versa
I never thought Kenta Maeda would be a #2 pitcher in a starting rotation, but he's better than what he's shown tonight. His game is heavily dependent on control and he seems to be leaving a lot of his pitches in the strike zone. We discussed before how we think opponents will start laying off his pitches out of the strike zone. Maybe we're seeing the results of that with Maeda adjusting to opponents laying off his pitches recently. I'm not sure if that is really the case tonight as it seems to be more of a matter of Kenta not being sharp tonight.
Plus, that errant throw by Crawford didn't help matters either. As an older professional ballplayer, you would expect Maeda to do a better job of settling himself, but I'm giving him more leeway to acclimate to a new environment in his 1st year of American professional baseball.
I still think batters will adjust to Maeda's pitching tendencies more effectively, but I also want to see how Maeda counters such adjustments.
