Message to Karl Sr. and Jacqueline Cruz-Towns: While we sure want to add our voices to the thousands of Minnesotans who are so, so proud of your son being named as the NBA's Rookie of the Year this week, what we REALLY want to tell you is what an incredibly kind, thoughtful and caring young man you've raised. Your son became one of our most frequent guests this year, and every time he comes in, our staff comments on how polite and unassuming he is, how well he treats every single one of our folks, and how his smile and kind comments light our place right up. Karl's decision to donate the car he was given as part of his Rookie of the Year award to the Minnesota Leukemia Lymphoma Society is a perfect example of the kind of heart your son has.

Not sure if the NBA has a "Mom and Dad" of the year award, but you two would sure get our vote! Thank you for sharing him with all of us in Minnesota.

I actually didn't get a chance to catch a single one of his games this year as they just weren't on tv a lot but man his numbers are just staggering...

I actually don't see him improving a TON this year I just think his minutes, usage etc go up.

I think he's a first teamer by year 3 or 4 though.

I think it's about 30-40% he becomes an mvp. I think being in minnesota hurts him a little but i think the improved attention to defensive stats will help him a lot.

Minnesota is never gonna be a premiere free agent destination but i think you'd have to think hard about them right now.

Ultimately I think it's great he can play either position but I think heshort most effective as a center. If you paired him with a shooter like marvin williams it really helps open up the problems that Rubio/Wiggins create.

Wiggins really needs to develop a jumpshot badly. It's just not gonna happen for rubio, but he's effective in his own ways. Lavine made pretty big strides after a disappointing rookie year.

I think you're a playoff team next year as the rockets figure to drop off without dwight and the mavs are vulnerable. Utah should be right there with you though

John Salley went on a rant of how KAT and Wiggins should both leave Minnesota, but I dont think either will unless traded.

Neither are attention whores.
KAT is a charismatic dude that doesnt go looking for the spotlight.
Wiggins is very reserved and shies away from the spotlight.
I wouldnt be surprised if these 2 preferred to chill and talk smack while playing video games than to do interviews.

Neither are hot weather guys.
KAT grew up n Jersey.
Wiggins grew up in Toronto.
Both guys are here in the offseason, they dont bolt as soon as the season is over.

Neither are going to be bereft of endorsements.
KAT has a great personality for marketing and is one of the young faces of the league, he wont have any problems there.
Wiggins will get as much as he can handle from Canada and is already doing footlocker, adidas etc..

That attitude confuses me to be honest, especially as it seems to be a view that more than small number of media personalities hold in the US. It seems that whenever players who look like they have the potential of being truly great land in small markets, a number of media personalities over there are willing them to move on to big market teams.

Surely people would rather that the traditionally 'smaller' teams actually start to discover and hold on to great players like these to increase the competitiveness of the league and actually lift the profile of some of these team, which is clearly a better outcome for the league as a whole and of course long-suffering fans of smaller-market teams?

People who grew up and have only lived on a coast have very narrow perspectives. Southern California natives I'd put it at almost brainwashing levels. I've heard dumb statements so many times. "Why would you want to live anywhere else?" "SoCal has literally everything you would ever want." "Other people just wish they could live here."

It's really ridiculous. People out here can't even conceive that there are other places that are superior in many ways.

Where are the largest media markets? LA and NY. It's usually guys that live/work on the coasts that say stuff like this. Some of the other California implants can chime in on this, but I've noticed something in my years bouncing between both coasts. Yeah, California is great, but there are definitely a decent amount of people with zero perspective.

Minnesota is a great state, I just didn't want the winters anymore, so I headed west. If I were an NBA player, it wouldn't be an issue.

Yeah, the driving is the biggest reason I wouldn't live there. It's also pretty damn expensive compared to most places.

Vegas is way cheaper cost of living, way less traffic (though people drive like they were lobotomized) and pretty nice weather most of the year (the summer gets pretty hot, but the rest of the year is pretty awesome).
