I think it's about 15 million, but in the final press conference after we were swept by the Cavs, Stan said we could somehow free up 23-24 million if necessary. I don't know how he got this number, but maybe he's had some inquiries to off load some undisclosed players if the need arose this off-season.

I read 22-24 million to play with

Nvm: found this

Honestly don't see us doing anything crazy we don't really have that great assets nor any money for an actual star. And seeing as how SVG doesn't really go hard for RFAs, I can see us making small moves like addressing the backup PG with either Delly or Lin (If he budges from CHA) and go from there.

Unless he drafts a PG.

Also for fun, look at BOS cap situation. They're a playoff team (thanks to brilliance by Brad Stevens) and they have projected 56 million to make a giant run any year. That and they have the #3 pick as an asset too. Danny Ainge is a mad scientist.

Boston has all the pieces to make a great deal or possibly two great deals

Bradley / Thomas / Crowder - all signed to roughly 7M a year for the next 2 years

Smart - signed for another 2 years

Amir Johnson - nice 12M contract for salary matching purposes

Olynyk, James Young are two other nice assets for them

Then you throw in #3 this year, two more picks from Brooklyn

I dont see why Ainge wouldnt trade everyone except Thomas or Crowder and go hard after two big name free agents

They honestly have the pieces to deal for Butler and one more star while keeping one of those aforementioned players

Add in Durant or Whiteside to that lineup and you have an instant contender with Stevens coaching

Dont worry Pistons also have a war chest too:
Dinwiddie, Bullock, Hilliard, Meeks, #18

Now that is a treasure trove of talent!

16 mil capspace if the Pistons waive the unguaranteed contract of Lorenzo Brown, don't pick up the option for Joel Anthony(2,5 mil) and let go Tolliver and Blake, but keep Dinwiddie and Hilliard which seems to be the most likely scenario. Trading Meeks for cap could bring the capspace to 22 mil, trading Baynes for cap and the capspace could go up to 28 mil.

Baynes ain't getting dumped! It would cost double his salary to replace him!

Meeks we can replace with Hilliard or Bullock...and he's about to expire so he's irrelevant to our future.

Of course Baynes doesnt get dumped. Its just a possibility to gain more capspace if really necessary for a guy like Horford for example. Baynes is in his last year of his contract too and will be an unrestricted free agent 2017 when the salary cap could hit 110 mil. Someone might offer him starting Center salary and he could be hard to keep. If a guy like Horford really commits to sign with the Pistons 22 $ mil capspace won't get it done. Maybe you move Bullock first to get that little bit more cap necessary but i would move Baynes before i touch any of Drummond/Morris/Harris/SJ/KCP/Reggie.

15 mill is a pretty rough idea. We probably won't be in the market for impact guys or even starters in this climate.

In that scenario you're imagining that we don't take back any salary at all for Baynes AND that a team is gonna help us land Horford!

Maybe the Hawks take back Baynes, Meeks & 18 in a sign and trade, maybe they don't...but signing Horford outright just ain't gonna happen

Why wouldn't a team take Baynes for free? he's a solid player. We helped the Sun by taking on Morris, Bullock, and Granger for free when they tried to sign LMA.
