Free Agency: Round 2

Post#1 » by heir_jordan22 » Wed May 4, 2016 1:26 pm

Now that the draft is over we will see a few cuts around the league. We already cut a couple veterans that could be very valuable for someone else in Slauson and Rolle.

What positions should we continue to target and who do you like that's out there?

I think we can still add competition at OT, CB and S. Outside of that I think our roster is very strong.

Can RFA from other teams still be given offers? If so then we should try to steal Tony Jefferson away from Arizona now that they have virtually no cap space.

Chris Culliver was cut by Washington. He was a very good player under Fangio in SF

Hopefully they can find another TE.

We have Khari Lee, who we gave up a couple picks for, and Rob Housler behind Zach Miller. I really like Braunecker, who was signed as an UFA, as well.

I believe Scott Chandler and Owen Daniels are available if Pace wants to add more competition there. But I think we're strong at TE.

Cornerbacks:

Leon Hall. Wants to get paid. Solid starting corner. 31 years old.

Antonio Cromartie. Voted to three consecutive pro bowls before playing through injuries all last year. 32

Chris Culliver. Starting CB for Fangio a couple years ago and performed at a high level. Has torn his ACL a couple times but is only 28 and may be able to come back. Could be a 1 year minimum contract candidate.

DeShawn Shead. Versatile DB for Seahawks. 28 year old RFA.

The Cowboys might choose to cut Brandon Carr to save money and replace him with one of these guys. In that case we could get him.

Safety options:
Donte Whitner was a pro bowler under Fangio. 31 years old. Still a quality player.

Dashon Goldson. Pro bowler under Fangio but has declined. Also 31.

Will Hill. Talented, but has a ton of off field issues. Ravens cut him even though he was their best DB last season. 26

Baccari Rambo. Talented, sometimes inconsistent. Tons of upside. 26 and RFA

Tony Jefferson. Cardinals tendered him. Not sure if we can still give him an offer. Probably the most talented with the most upside of all. 24 years old

Idk either... It was a low round tender so no picks would have been owed if Bears signed him pre draft. Not sure how that works post draft. I'd assume things stay the same. Bears can offer a contract without having to give up draft picks. az has rights to match .

Idk if Pace would sign Culliver? Good player. I live in Sacramento so I hear a lot of 49ers news out here. While playing for SF Culliver made headlines out here for openly declining to ever accept a gay football player on his team, said something to the media about "can't be with that sweet stuff" or something like that. Culliver was labeled a lockerroom issue who didnt think things through before opening his mouth.. The gay thing wasn't really the issue, it was his lack of professionalism and being a distraction

Oh yea I do remember that about Culliver. Washington is one of the few teams that will deal with crap like that. Too bad they cut him

I don't have many real specific targets in mind. That said, I wouldn't mind if we added a little DB help, although I really want these young guys to get a chance to show what they can do as well. A quality starting LT and a young QB worth grooming for the future would both be nice, but there's not much of a chance of that becoming available without there being some baggage.

I think we might pull some sort of trade. I think we have more than 10 mil in cap. That's enough to net a pro-bowl caliber guy. I would think our trade targets would be a LT, DE, CB, or TE in that order. Here are a couple guys we might be able to trade for;

LT

King Dunlap: He's a bit injury prone, including last season so he might be able to be netted for a later pick.
Joe Barksdale: He's a natural RT but he had to step in for Dunlap last season. I don't think he's much of an upgrade over what we have now but he may still be a target.

Joe Thomas: He was on the block last season and he's one of the great linemen of all time. He's 31 but we'd still probably have to give up at least a 3rd. I think we'd have to make a little more cap space to sign him. Maybe do a Willie Young and 4th for him.

DE

Star Lotulelei or Kawann Short: They're both about to get paid and they just drafted Vernon Butler. They might want to move one of them for a decent pick.

CB

D.J. Hayden: He's fallen to the nickel position for the Raiders with them now signing Smith. I saw he might be cut. He'd be a good nickel for us.

Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie: They signed Jenkins and drafted Apple in the 1st so they might be looking to move him.

TE

Jimmy Graham: It didn't seem like he fit in that offense, he got hurt, and Luke Wilson had more success in the offense. We might be able to get him for a 5th which would be amazing since the Seahawks gave up one of the best centers and a 1st.

Free Agent TE Andrew Quarless would be a great 1 year 'prove it deal' player.

Apparently we're targeting Arian Foster, Knile Davis and Alfred Morris

Davis would be my top option. The guy is an absolute freak of nature and puts up ridiculous numbers when he's healthy. If he can stay healthy and our coaches can clean up some of his technique, then he has amazing potential

I'll take Arian Foster. Bears have the young speedster and bruiser. Adding Foster to that meeting room alone would be good for the team

Titans waived Zach Mettenberger. He has potential to be a top back up in the NFL. It would do him go to sit behind Cutler and Hoyer

I'd like to sign him. He'd be a cheaper alternative to Hoyer once his 1 year deal ends

Report: Bears working on contract extension with Willie Young

(via http://thesco.re/theScore_app )

Kind of crazy how 1 season ago they wanted to trade him. He played his way into earning trust from the coaching staff.
