Lakers 2016 NBA draft #2 pick discussion

I've been on Simmons from Day 1, this dude can do a lot more than Ingram. Ingram is a great shooter now and defender, but his rebounding scares me. Rebounding is about having an aggressive nature to do, I see Ingram as nothing more than an average rebounder at best for his career.

Simmons on the other hand isn't a good shooter but as I always say most young guys especially bigs who need to shoot on the wing never come in the league as good shooter. Look back at Blake Griffin, he was erratic on the elbow shot now he hits at a cool clip. Ben will get better at shooting so this is moot for now. Now the part of Simmons game that stands out over Ingram is his playmaking ability, his rebounding and his ready now NBA frame, and his ability to get to the basket easy.

Simmons is our guy, I see the Sixers taking Ingram because they have a 4 in Noel already and Simmons doesn't fit. But I'd be satisfied if we landed Ingram, I just know it'll take some time for his body to fill in but he is stud.....we don't lose either way.

I'm all for Simmons....it's just the fact that we have to trade Randle....the type of return we could get on Randle is the key to us getting Simmons imo. Simmons/Russell/Clarkson on the break/ in a ball movement oriented Warrior type offense is scary imo

We don't have to trade Julius just yet...I think people over think this stuff some times. We know the scoop on Simmons and truth is he has to make adjustments to his game also. He has to learn how to play off the ball, he and Julius give us great post options also. But we can give this at least one year before having to make that decision if it comes to it.

I'd prefer Simmons.
You got to go with the one with most superstar potential and I think it's him. Superstars make contenders and win titles.
Already a good scorer at 19, excellent rebounder and elite passer. Has NBA ready body and a good motor. Mental thoughness and shooting stroke appear to be his main red flags. We can work with that.
I don't see how Simmons could go wrong,


But of course, if consolation prize is Ingram, who seems to be another gem, I'm not gonna cry.

Excited to see how it all unfolds and how Mitch/Luke manage this preseason. After a few years of garbage, Lakers can be relevant again.

Twice now I've heard once from JA Adande just now on the radio if Lakers get Ingram they'll keep him if it's Simmons they might move him in a trade.

I can see the Sixers moving Okafor to the Celtics for #3. They'll take Simmons at 1 and either Dunn, Murray, or Hield at 3.

You can give this another year, but Jim Buss can't. It doesn't mean he will give Randle (or anybody else) away for nothing. But if Buss can get a reasonably equitable talent but a BETTER fit, Buss has every reason to do it.

That also applies to Simmons (or Ingram) too. Of course the Lakers will try to raise the value of that pick by saying there aren't many players they'd trade the pick for. But what's implicit in those guarded comments?

There are a few. There aren't many, but there are a few names. Only Mitch and Buss know what that threshold is.

It's not a bad strategy. Both Simmons and Ingram can help right away, at one of the weaker positions in basketball.

All things being equal, Ingram is a better fit though. You can keep Randle, and just add a stretch center. Add a wing shooter. Backup point. All things that can be added via free agency. Simple.

However, with Simmons, the Lakers just don't have enough shooters. They have to start exploring trades. Simmons offers greater upside, but they have to do a lot more to build around him. It's a lot easier to get better for one year with Ingram, because he can shoot.

Easiest to probably trade the pick, however. The Lakers get many more options than fighting for scraps among this year's free agents.

What right choice??? They will take the one the falls to #2. This is the easiest decision they will have to make this offseason. I think we are over thinking this, the Lakers pick 2nd...

Philly is split pretty much evenly. Our forum poll is almost dead even, our local sports talk calls are dead even, our local writers and reporters are dead even, our TV polls are dead even. I have never seen anything like this. I'd figure 60/40 one way, but not 50/50. If this a Primary, it would be too close to call.

That said, I think the Sixers will take Simmons.

They aren't without options. They could trade the pick away. They could trade down for future consideration. There's many things they can do. Acting like taking Philly's leftovers is their only option is a bit shortsighted.

Something based around Clarkson and #2 for Jimmy Butler and #14? I know fillers and what not would need to be figured out, but just curious of your guys' thoughts

Would do this trade in a heartbeat.

Bill Sinmons was talking about Boston going hard at Jimmy Butler as well. And if it's a bidding war is rather let them win and keep Ingram
