Re: Around the NBA 8.0
If I'm the Magic GM I wait to see if the new coach can make it work. No trades before January unless I'm getting insane value.
My picks:
2020 Draft (3rd pick) - Tyrese Haliburton, Devin Vassell, or Onyeka Okongwu
2021 Draft (11th pick) - Moses Moody

I'm thinking it's going to be D'Antoni HC and Silas as Lead Assistant (Ewing's job). As long as Ewing is the Lead Assistant in Charlotte (and unable to get a HC job elsewhere), other teams won't even need to offer HC slot to poach guys away...just lead assistant job would get them to leave Charlotte, since Ewing has that path to advancement locked up for the foreseeable future. That might be a problem going forward, if the Hornets can't keep quality coaching assistants because they're unable to offer the Lead Assistant spot as long as Ewing is here.

I'd really hate to lose Silas but if he leaves it better before for a head coaching job, not another assistant gig.

The Lead Assistant gig is the stepping stone on the path towards HC. D'Antoni is currently the Lead Assistant for Philly. Gentry was Lead Assistant for GSW before getting HC for the Pelicans. Lead Assistants take over if the HC is indisposed or gets canned and even have a shot at making it permanent (like Woodson in New York), or at the very least a chance to showcase their Head Coaching skills as an interim head coach (like Luke Walton in Golden State).
Atkinson left the regular assistant job with the Knicks to get the Lead Assistant job with the Hawks, and now he's a Head Coach in Brooklyn. It's the normal progression of coaching...regular assistant to Lead Assistant to Head Coach. Unfortunately, the Hornets have a roadblock of Ewing at the Lead Assistant job (and no signs of vacating it by being promoted to HC elsewhere, thus not allowing anyone below him to be promoted by the Hornets into his spot). So anyone who harbors an ambition of moving along towards an eventual Head Coaching gig would have to leave Charlotte for a Lead Assistant job elsewhere. Meaning other teams can poach Hornets assistant coaches away just with a Lead Assistant offer.
It would be foolish for Silas to turn down the Lead Assistant job with the Rockets to stay as a regular assistant stuck behind Ewing on the Hornets, with no chance of advancement.

It's going to hinge on this second interview. Let's see if Cliff's recommendation is enough to help get Silas the HC job. If not, Lead Assistant under D'Antoni is a nice promotion from staying behind Ewing.

It's crazy to watch this game and Biz the only Raptors player with a plus +/-.

I"m not sure where this goes, but there is a verified Hornets ball boy doing an AMA on r/nba. There isn't much too it as far as I've read so far, some cool IT and Drummond stories, nothing too interesting about the Hornets specifically except that the nicest players are Kemba and JLin, Frank is kinda a dbag, ball boys get paid peanuts and walk around 13 miles on game night, and His Airness patted him on the back once (lol).

28 minutes, 3 points (1-3 FG), 5 boards, 2 blk.
Cody would get roasted on here putting up a line like that on a night when we were killed in the paint like TOR was tonight.

Say what you want about Kemba, but he's not leaving the bench to go back to the locker room in what was at the time a close game in the playoffs to "decompress" because he was frustrated. Bad look for Lowry.

He's been lowrible in PO. Kemba definitely has more heart and leadership than that fat "allstar".

Same, but would also be happy for him

In addition to Mike D'Antoni, Rockets seriously weighing Stephen Silas as coach with Lionel Hollins as his top assistant, source said.

As mentioned yesterday, Silas is extremely impressive and highly regarded by players. Hollins' creds obviously speak for themselves.

Rockets have thought highly of Hollins for years. Hoped to add him to McHale's staff post-Sampson, but Hollins landed Nets job.

Getting tired of all the noise by LeBron and others about Curry not being a true MVP because his teammates are so good. ... It's a chicken / egg thing for me. Can anyone say with confidence that Thompson, Barnes, Ezeli, Green would have become as good as they have even if they hadn't played with and been encouraged by Curry. Curry - who seems (like Batum) capable of and interested in making his teammates better

It's just LeBron & Co. starting the "back in my days" a little too early

Re: Around the NBA 8.0
anyone questioning Curry's MVP this season needs to have their heads examined. 73 wins while scoring 30PPG on absurd %s deserves MVP in any year from any era. All these old players and vets trying to put an * next to his accomplishments come off looking like children.

more on Silas

Kinda funny that the Rockets are going from JB Bickerstaff to Stephen Silas. They just love our assistants who served under their fathers in Charlotte.
Does Clifford have a kid he can get into coaching ASAP? Rockets might have an opening again in a few years.
It will probably eat Ewing alive to see Silas get a head coaching job before him. Comes down to communication. Silas has always been amazing in that regard.

Re: Around the NBA 8.0
Rockets fans are already talking themselves into Silas bringing half our team with him to Houston - Batum, Marvin and Lee. (and the ones that want Lin back as well).

Re: Around the NBA 8.0
If Silas doesn't get the job we pretty much have to let go of Ewing and promote him to lead assistant if we want to keep him. But honestly I think that may be best for Patrick. If he ever wants an NBA head coaching job he needs to prove himself at the college level first.

Yea, true
It will be interesting to see whether the players vote Curry the MVP at the Espy's this year or not

NYC remembers Jeremy Lin. All five boroughs. I guess Queens didn't want to get left out with all the fuss over the Knicks in Manhattan and the Nets in Brooklyn
