Better Free Agent: Barnes or DeRozan

Post#1 » by LakersLegacy » Sat May 21, 2016 8:55 am

Who is the better free agent option?

Barnes has played well for Luke this season. He has all-star potential. He is younger at age 23. 14 points per game, solid FG%.

DeRozan is an all-star. He is 26. 23 ppg, lower FG%. DeRozan loves LA.

I think Barnes style would mesh better with Luke.
If you could chose between the 2, who would you pick?

Is this even remotely a debate?

Barnes

keep that other chucker as far from staples (unless clippers sign him for a vet minimum) as possible.

Why dat hate towards DeRozan? LMAO!

I think DeRozan is the better player, Barnes is just a role player.

What is Barnes eligible max? Derozan starts at something crazy like 30% of the cap, whereas i THINK Barnes starts at 16-17 mil (actually it's 18-19)?

So either DD at 4 years 105-110 mil vs HB at 4 years 80-85 mil.

Yea its not a hard choice judging by the money and positional versatility. Barnes is a player i'm sure Luke will push hard for and he can defend 3/4, shoot 3s, and already familiar with the GSW system that Luke will try to crib. If we draft Ingram, i move him to the 2.

PG - DLo
SG - Ingram
SF - Barnes
PF - Randle
C - ???

1-3 will provide ALOT of 3 pt shooting/spacing. We go small with Barnes then 1-4 can all shoot 3s.

Edit: I was a bit off on his max offer sheet. Ok that makes Barnes lose quite a bit in value due to how much it takes to sign him, but from a fit perspective he's still a bit better overall. DD not a good 3pt shooter hurts alot.

BArnes
- He is about as young as Clarkson actually at 23 going on 24.
- He can defend which no one on the perimeter can
- He play and defend 2-4 both ways
- He knows how to play a role to win and we have no one who does the little things in our core
- He has playoff experience
- He knows what it is like to win it all
- He doesn't have the loser mentality

I don't think it is close at all between them. I mean I rather invest in Batum than Derozan despite him being fragile.

Hell Harrison Barnes would be like the equivalent of the Lakers getting Rick Fox

I dont prefer both for max, but Harrison is better.

He can play within the system, he can shoot, rarely took midrange shots, and he can do ISO when needed. Perfect SF, but i don't know if he really worth the max.

Any team willing pay Rick Fox equivalent 20 million a year is going nowhere fast.

Its better than sign chucker, overrated scorer like Derozan than max.

C'mon i know he scoring 24 ppg, but lets not forget Corey Magette also averaging 24 ppg few years ago. Hey they can score, but its ugly and frustating and not reliable (can't sustained in harsh environment like playoff).

I'm not arguing for Derozan. I'm arguing against giving role players max money. This supposed two way player was getting owned in the first three games by Lebron in the finals and prompted Kerr to put in a legit perimeter defender in the starting lineup in games 4,5,6. If it wasn't for Iguodala the W's would have to relied on Barnes defense and the Cavs would have won the title last year. He has only shown so far to be a distant fourth option 3 & D guy that is only fairly solid on defense. You don't give those type of guys max money.

Neither are very good option especially when you consider the contract they will get. I mean Barnes had a 12.3 PER. The fact that many want to give him that contract is just flat out creepy to me. DeRozan is clearly a far far better player unfortunately he's a terrible fit and someone that could just keep the team at that first or second round exit level even with other star players on the team.

I thought Barnes was a restrictive free agent? If he is not then he would be the most rewarding signing other than a miracle Durant/LeBron signing. I still think Barnes has a lot more potential that he cannot show in Golden State. Sign me up. But for the max? Hmmmm not sure about that one yet.

Neither if that's a choice. Barnes only because of the lower salary if one has to be picked

The person not named Derozan is the automatic choice.

Well Barnes isn't even a realistic option b/c of outside signing KD they are matching any offer he gets. I also doubt he even meets other teams.

Derozan is meh as a player. Being an all star is a bit of an overrated accomplishment in a conference where Jimmy Butler was hurt and Dwade is 34 years old. Derozan isn't even as good as Joe Johnson was in his prime. Huge pass. I'd rather bet on Clarkson.
