Post your ideal offseason trades!

Post#1 » by sfballa13 » Fri May 20, 2016 6:14 am

Alot of threads about free agents, why don't we get one started for potential trades?

Here is a monster 3 team deal to get the ball rolling:

To Lakers: Hilliard, Meeks, Dinwiddie
Lakers save 7M on Lou Williams deal and get a some young players for their troubles

To Knicks: #18 and our 2nd round pick, Baynes
Knicks get a 1st round pick, clear 17.5M of cap space (can go after a free agent like Conley)

To Pistons: Lou Williams, Calderon, Robin Lopez, O'Quinn, Jerian Grant
Pistons get a starter caliber back up C, two veterans to back up the PG/PF spots, and a young PG prospect

Reggie / Calderon - Grant
KCP / Lou Williams
Tobias / Stanley - Bullock
Mook / O'Quinn - Tolliver
Drummond / Lopez

Calderon wont be asked to do much and if he plays poorly we can run Grant for more minutes

Lou Williams is instant offense and signed for two more years

O'Quinn is signed for 3 more seasons at a cheap 3.75M a year

Lopez is inked for 3 more seasons (no need to worry about replacing Baynes) and can actually hit his FT (80% this season). He is also used to starting so any night Drummond is giving a half ass effort you can slot him in without worrying about dropping a level.

Resign KCP and Drummond and call it an offseason

Thoughts? Ideas?

Anyone who's not in our top six plus two first rounders for Brandon Knight. Include Baynes. Then throwing silly money at Ryan Anderson makes a heck of a lot more sense.......

Here are my keepers:

PG: Jackson /
SG: KCP /
SF: Morris /Johnson
PF: Harris /
C: Drummond / Baynes

So my goal would be to trade Meeks + #1 and get some great backups at PG, SG, and PF. I think Baynes is a keeper.

Ask yourself what is better?

#18 + 2nd Rounder + Baynes (1 year and he is gone) or Lopez (3 years) ??
- We use our #18 + 2nd round pick to upgrade from one year of Baynes to 3 years of Lopez + Grant
- Baynes is gone after this season, no chance in hell he takes a cut, id rather pay Lopez (who was starting last year) 12M than pay some other bench crap for $12-15M to back up Dre

Meeks or Lou Williams?
Meeks was probably the worst SVG signing. He hasnt done **** for us. Lou Williams dominated on Toronto but is not being utilized properly in LA. We trade one season of Meeks + Hilliard to upgrade to two seasons of Lou Williams (a much better player than Meeks since he ACTUALLY CAN PLAY

Kyle O Quinn vs PF free agent?
O'Quinn isnt a superstar but when a guy is making 3.75M and can produce off the bench then he becomes a valuable trade asset and a much better acquisition than signing a similar caliber player to nearly double his salary. We would be lucky to find a young back up PF like O'Quinn, let alone one signed to 3 years

Calderon + Grant or NO ONE / Steve Blake?
Our chances to get Delladova are pretty much non-existant. That leaves Jeremy Lin who wants tons of money AND wants to start. What if he doesnt want to come off the bench? What if he wants to go to the Nets to recapture some of his NYC magic from seasons past esp as a starter and star of the team. Bottom line is to get a great PG to sign with the Pistons would be a tough esp when there isnt anyone besides Lin/Delladova. Calderon put up 7.5 pts / 4 assists / 3 rebounds on 42% 3PT (3 attempts a game) in 28 minutes. He wont be asked to play against starters or to play more than 20 minutes a game. That should improve his efficiency. If he doesnt play well we can easily slot in Grant who played consistently for the Knicks last season

We turn our pick and all our trash into quality SG/PF/C signed for at least 2 to 3 years with Grant as a bonus all while removing ourselves from overpaying anyone this or next offseason

Ideally if Grant develops we can just let him back up Reggie in 2017, 2018 for 1.5M a year

No chance in hell Lakers or Knicks say no to this

Even if we dont include the Knicks I still desperately want to trade Meeks for Lou Williams. There is no trade with Meeks involved that is even money and actually replaces Meeks with a productive player making similar money. If you want to keep it simple trade Meeks, Dinwiddie, Hilliard, Bullock for Lou Williams and Bass and throw the rest of our money at Lin.

Id rather go after someone like Jarrett Jack or Calderon, a veteran on an expiring or short deal rather than chase the ONE free agent that is available and hope he chooses less money, a **** climate and market, and gives up the chance to start and star in one of the biggest markets in the USA in Brooklyn.

Would you do Brandon Knight for Sam Dekker and Lamarr Patterson? I'm sure you would.

Those were the last two players picked at #18. Getting Knight for them would be an absolute steal.

Or Eric Bledsoe or Ty Lawson...anyway Knight won't fit him and Reggie would work bad defense.

I agree with this. I do think Meeks has negative value though, so our best plan may be to package up #18 along with young guys like Dinwiddie and Hilliard and land a backup PG capable of playing next to Reggie like Knight or Tyreke Evans.

Baynes is a nice player, but I'd prefer our "backup 5" to be a floor stretcher. That's asking a lot though as not many guys check those boxes (part of the reason D-Mo could have been a really nice fit). Realistically, I'll be thrilled if Stan pulls another rabbit out of the hat and gets a really strong backup PG/potential wing as a "7th Man" without giving up anything of consequence.

Meeks & #49

for

Stuckey & #20
Comments to rationalize bad contracts -
1) It's less than the MLE
2) He can be traded later
3) It's only __% of the cap
4) The cap is going up
5) It's only __ years
6) He's a good mentor/locker room guy

Not that I disagree with your point, but the 18th pick in 2014 was Ennis bro, not Patterson haha.

Lol, noted. We need a 25-30 mpg combo guard, and I'm happy trading away two mid picks for that guard. Knight is locked in for awhile, that's why I chose him. I'd trade this year's pick for some of them with shorter deals, too.

Meeks + Baynes + 18 for Brandon Knight. Then we retain Joel, sign our PF of the future, and fill any third stringer gaps with vets min guys.

Reggie/Knight/Dinwiddie (or Min vet)

KCP/Knight/Bullock/Hilliard

Marcus Morris/Stanley J/Min Vet

Tobias Harris/Free Agent/Min Vet (or Tolliver)

Andre D/Joel Anthony/Min Vet

Meeks+Brown+18# x Hill+L.Allen

Hill would be a perfect fit. He can play as a PG or SG, is a good defender and has PO experience. Also, Allen would be a good piece to add. He is a versatile big.

Then, I would put money on Terrence Jones and keep Tolli.

PG: Reggie, Hill, Dinwiddie
SG: KCP, Bullock, Hilliard
SF: Morris, Johnson, FA
PF: Harris, Jones, Tolli
C: Drummond, Baynes, Allen

IF we could land George Hill we'd all do cartwheels of joy!

I seriously doubt Indiana wanna trade him within the division...

If anyone has the time:

PF/C or PG/SG with the following attributes -

1 - playoff experience

2 - under team control for at least the next 3 years

3 - their current team could actually appreciate the #18 pick and Meeks (or his expiring contract)

Those 3 thingsdetermine our pool IMO

Indiana showed some interest in Teague before the deadline. I think we can make work out something between the 3 teams.

Atlanta receive 18#, 20# and Meeks
Indiana receive Teague
Pistons receive Hill

I think it would be fair for the 3 teams. Indiana improves their PG, Detroit gets a combo that play along with Reggie and Atlanta gets 2 picks which can use to draft a backup for Schroeder (their long shot at PG) and get some draft&stash players.

Return to Detroit Pistons
