Re: Portland - 2016 Offseason
My biggest peeve with Plumlee, besides his inability to shoot, is his habit of having his arms down as players drive on him. I'm shocked that coach K never corrected this. Having his arms down mean that it is more likely that he will pick up a cheap foul on the drive and also means that he is slow to react to shots and high passes. It's not like a player making a bounce pass is the primary worry in the lane. Just by correcting this his defense would improve substantially. He's plenty long and athletic so the potential is there

He's a freak of a vertical athlete, but he has very poor length. His 9'0" standing reach is half an inch shorter than Aminu's.
This really limits him unfortunately.

Re: Portland - 2016 Offseason
this is the final thing I am going to say on this matter.
henderson, leonard, & crabbe go elsewhere.
harkless is re-signed
we trade alexander, $ & picks for Monroe
we sign Evan Turner
we sign JJ Hickson
we sign Tim Frazier
so our team would be this
PG - Lillard/Frazier/Montero
SG - Mccollum/Turner/Connaughton
SF - Aminu/Harkless
PF - Monroe/Hickson/Vonleh
C - Plumlee/Davis
not a bad team if you ask me!!!!!!!!!!

Re: Portland - 2016 Offseason
Before anyone recommends signing Monroe please please please provide any history of either of these things...
1.) Any recent success Portland has had with two bigs who can't shoot.
2.) Any recent success Monroe's team has had when he is on the court with another big who can't shoot.
Every piece of evidence we suggest that pairing Monroe on the court with Davis, Plumlee, and even a guy like Hickson would be a complete and total disaster both offensively and defensively. Pairing a guy like Monroe with Leonard would be less of an offensive disaster and even bigger defensive disaster.
To me Monroe would be a great big to bring off the bench for offense when he can go against second units. His value beyond that to me is a huge negative.

I tend to agree. Monroe represents the wrong way Portland should go on defense. And any suggestion that starts with "pair Meyers with________ loses me on the 2nd word.
I guess the worry is: Olshey went after Monroe. I hated it at the time and still do, but he's the GM and last summer he threw max contracts at Monroe and Kanter; he's also apparently a big fan of Meyers since he offered him a big contract last summer as well. That's 3 times the yuck. That indicates that as recently as a year ago, he didn't place any value on post defense. He very well might still think that way

Re: Portland - 2016 Offseason
Any interest in going after Noah from the Bulls. Reports are that he wants out of Chicago, and he would provide rim protection. Of course you'd have to make sure that there are no medical issues, but he's a former DPOY who can, on any given night, give you 10+ boards and 10+ assist. He was looking really good this year before getting hurt, he was really starting to show flashes. The advantage for Noah I think comes with the amount of money your going to pay him, you don't have to brake the bank like you would for guys like Biyombo or Whiteside. And if Portland really wanted to they could pitch both Big Al Horford & Noah, I think both those guys would like to play together. Of course that would take some Cap gymnastics, but Horford & Noah already have chemistry and would allow Portland to do a lot of interesting things. While at the same time, giving younger guys like Noah Vonleh veteran bigs to learn from.

2012 Noah would be amazing on this squad. Perfect fit. 2016 Noah.... I'm not so sure. I just don't know how much of his declining production over the past few years has to do with his health and how much has to do with just a weird situation given coach Hoibergs decision to bench him.

Re: Portland - 2016 Offseason
This summer is going to be important for Plumlee for short of Portland going elsewhere for an
upgrade, he's likely our starter. He'll need to spend most of the summer working on his offensive
game for its in his best interests to do so when he becomes a RFA next summer. It would help
if Portland's guards could pressure the ball.
I'm thinking Portland will use their cap space on a front court upgrade, not necessarily a center.
Hopefully they won't overpay too much for the upgrade.

I actually hope POR pays a LOT and gets one of the quality guys available, we need a talent upgrade to seriously compete,

If that's what it takes to get Horford, I would be OK with it. Otherwise, I'm in the camp that Noah is better off ring-chasing for a more likely contender.

As much as I would like to see a quality guy come here, if Dame and CJ are our front court for the foreseeable future,
that's perhaps $50 Million/ yr spent. If that new contract is for Horford, is that big 3 of Horford, Dame and CJ capable of
being really competitive in the west? I'm thinking we need more than one guy for we need an upgrade at center,
and could certainly use a scoring, more creative wing who can handle the ball. Likely we'll get the wing and NO will hope
Plumlee develops his offensive game.

Plumlees IMO is not the answer, he'll make a fine backup

if Noah got your Horford, you could do a lot worse than a Noah / Plumdog center rotation... they are both great passers, and if Noah is healthy, should have a couple of good defensive seasons left in him.

Re: Portland - 2016 Offseason
The going rate for a big in this bloated FA market is likely the max for there are rumors of Biyumbo
going for the max. If Plumlee can add one go to move, he'd likely be a serviceable center, especially
if the team could get a veteran backup center. Noah likely will be looking for a team closer to
competing for a championship.

I think there is a difference between rumors and conjecture. Just because a poster on RealGM asks if Biyombo will get a max deal doesn't mean any real GM will give him one, and it doesn't mean there's a 'rumor'
while I think the potential for stupid contracts is high this summer, if you use RealGM as a source, 75% of free agents this summer are "getting the max". Biyombo is a strong rebounder & shot blocker and he shows very well in a lot of defensive stats. But he has stone hands and can't do a thing on offense. He was also measured as only being 6'8.25 without shoes. That's really short for a C but probably not as critical as it used to be
If Biyombo gets a max it will be an insane summer for sure

Noah really was coming around this year before the injury. Also playing wth Pau last year really hurt his game. I think that he'll be really good this year after being out for so long. He also wants out of Chicago so the new team should also energies him. Noah has 2-3 more solid years in him, he just needs to stay heathy. Noah plays with a contagious energy and knows what it takes to win. But agin the biggest reason to go after noah is because he will be cheaper then other options, and because it increases the possibility of getting Hereford.

Re: Portland - 2016 Offseason
I'm not sure I buy the whole Noah and Horford thing (how's the money working when Horford will probably require max dollars to leave Atlanta), but yeah, an engaged and healthy Noah is pretty much perfect for the Blazers. I have an irrational hatred of Noah's personality cause I think he's too over the top, but I'd probably love it if he were in Portland bringing that.

Wingspan is way more important than height, and his 7'6 wingspan is about half a foot longer than Mason Plumlee's. Just from watching him you can tell he doesn't play undersized. He's a perfect good and bulky center.
