2016 Cavaliers Playoffs (13 G)

+14.16 SRS, +15.6 Offense, -0.6 Defense

119.7 ORTG, 106.7 DRTG

2005 Phoenix put up a +17.0 offense through 2 rounds. 87 Lakers put up ~120 ORTG in a title run. Cavs still with decent shots at both those numbers (w/o Game 3 @TOR they'd be at 121.4/+17.4).
But in his home dwelling...the hi-top faded warrior is revered. *Smack!* The sound of his palm blocking the basketball... the sound of thousands rising, roaring... the sound of "get that sugar honey iced tea outta here!"

1 win away from an Eastern 6-peat. Really an unreal accomplishment that is hard to put in its proper perspective in the moment. People can rag on the East all they want, it's still unreal. 2 different franchises with very different casts, 3 different coaches. A couple total carry jobs where his supporting cast was out ravaged by injury (2015) or playing ineffectively through injury (2013). And the biggest thing about it all is that there doesn't seem to be an end in sight. He could play in 10 or 11 in a row and it wouldn't stun me. Hopefully more championships to come. OKC looks amazing right now but I like the Cavs chances...

I would slightly favor OKC in the matchup, but the Cavs having homecourt is huge. Kyrie and Love seem like different players in Cleveland.

RealGM updated stats:

Has him at 29.5 PER and Russ at 29.9 so should be 28.4 on BBR's scale.

120.1 ORTG, 101.3 DRTG, 0.285 WS/48 (.431 in ECF)

Courtesy of priceFTW on RCF:

Without James, the Cavs don't really even have a defense. Look at these playoffs for an example.

Opponents' shooting percentages against Cavs players compared to what they shot in the regular season this year:

Shump: +8.6%; opponents are shooting 8.6% better against Shumomthan they did against all opponents in the regular season; (+3.4% from three)

JR: +7.1%, (-3% from three)

Delly: +6.5% (+6.2% from three)

Kyrie: +4.6% (+4.7% from three).

Love: +3.4% (+6.6% from three)

TT: +3% (-2.9% from three)

Jefferson: -1% (-9.1% from three)

Frye: -3.9% (+4.1% from three)

LEBRON: -12.4 (-9.7% from three, -24.8% from less than 6 feet)

Before tonight's game, the Cavs DRting with LeBron off court during the playoffs was 114.7 which would be equivalent to the worst defense ever.

During the regular season, with James on court, the Cavs' DRtg was equivalent to the 3rd best in the NBA and with him off court, the 15th best.

ALL of this while shouldering the responsibility of orchestrating the offense. As @Heej said earlier, utter greatness taken for granted. Not being on one of the 1st or 2nd team defenses is a joke

About to pass Jordan for #1 in career playoff win shares. Should happen by either G7 or G1 of the finals.

LEBRON: -12.4 (-9.7% from three, -24.8% from less than 6 feet)

That's what ElGee's talking about when he says he loves how he defends the rim.

Where'd you get this data? That's pretty good, considering league average from there is what, 50-60%? He cuts it almost in half

It's from an RCF poster, but I just found the data on NBA.com.

Link

Link doesn't seem to be posting properly on mobile. Just go to stats.nba.com > defensive hub > player overall diff% > choose less than 6ft and sort it, he's near the top. Cutting 59.9% down to 35% but volume is middling (right around 75th percentile for volume, but that doesn't account for minutes, plus tails are farther in low sample postseason).

I just wanna point out that the Love to Lebron outlets is just one of those rare times in league history where we're seeing a confluence of complimentary talents. Probably my second favorite combination play I've seen Lebron have with someone after the Wade-Lebron fast break alley oops during the Heatles era.
LeBron's NBA Cup MVP is more valuable than either of KD's Finals MVPs. This is the word of the Lord

Blitzing/ hard showing Lowry worked really well as I pointed out. Just some awfully lazy passes from our team on the blitzes lead to a billiondy turnovers. That's how you use Tristan well instead of switching or hedging. It was how Pacers slowed down Lowry and Derozan to awful efficiency.

If Lowry/ Derozan can turn the corner (hard to do against Tristan) it's clear path to the basket. But I'm not really concerned about any of the Raptors bigs catching it wide open at the elbow (if the pass gets through). Maybe prime Scola but not this slow ass one. JV will pump fake himself out of an open shot (never wants to shoot it), Biyombo in that scenario is lol, Scola is too slow to get to the basket, Patterson is the best option but not really athletic enough/ good enough playmaker to be really dangerous.

I would definitely be trapping Lowry and Derozan pick and rolls more often. Worked for Indiana really well.

Lebron has adjusted to his teammates instead of the other way around this postseason. Cavs have a historic collection of 3P shooters, two of which are bigs and one of which is probably the league's best off the dribble 3P shooter after Steph.

He just screens the ball. Switch and Kyrie can wreck a big or wing in iso or movement towards the rim. Lebron rolls w/Delly and help MUST come meaning Love/Frye/etc. left open in the corners or can hockey to the wing. Don't adjust or rotate late and Delly hits Lebron who gets an open-lane or kickout to shooters. It's broken.

When Love is screening the ball he gets a P&P while Lebron is cutting/moving in from the weakside, or on sideline P&R Love gets post position and can score or find Lebron cutting middle. Best defense I suppose would be to prevent Love screen and roll from ever happening or to force Lebron out of good position before this is even initiated.

Given his putrid jumpshot off the dribble, he is now officially more dangerous off the ball than creating on the ball (at least from the perimeter). So much chaos to opposing defenses just screening/moving all over the floor and it's powering the GOAT offense.
