Re: Lakers 2016 NBA draft #2 pick discussion
People really trying to trade Randle for Embiid.
Like trading a guy who actually plays nightly and is a walking double-double at the age of 21 for a guy who hasn't even played a game of 2 on 2 basketball in a year let alone an actual NBA game?
....wtf

Re: Lakers 2016 NBA draft #2 pick discussion
So say Philly picks Ingram first. What do you guys think of Simmons, the knocks on his game (attitude/desire/work ethic/jumpshot/position/will his game really translate to the NBA), and how we'd build around him?
I feel like he seems like a special talent, but a difficult fit, and in the wrong hands might not pan out. Can you imagine the confidence that he might if Byron was coming in to coach next season? Really glad we don't have to worry about that potential problem.
What do you guys think about him though? Especially the ones who are hoping he falls to us/the NCAA junkies. I feel like there hasn't been enough discussion on that front.

Re: Lakers 2016 NBA draft #2 pick discussion
His shooting mechanics look fine. He simply did not take many outside shots in college. I'm sure he can develop his game like Blake did on the outside Obviously his ability to finish at the rim, the ball handling and passing are going to translate. There is hardly anyone in the league that good at all three phases at his position except for LeBron when he plays the 4.

Re: Lakers 2016 NBA draft #2 pick discussion
I think Simmons' attitude/work ethic issues have been overblown. The legitimate concern is the jumpshot but there is a long list of players who came into the league without a jumper and went on to develop one. I think there's a good chance he'll at least become a decent midrange shooter ala Griffin, which along with the rest of his game will make him a damn good player. I'd be happy to draft him # 2 and figure out fit later.

I think Simmons has a chance to be quite special and would be quite excited if he dropped to the lakers.

would love him still. yeah shot worries me but it can be fixed. his handles and athleticism on the other hand really would go well here, we would have Simmons, Russell and Clarkson (to a lesser extent) as very good ball handlers which goes a long way, he also is a good rebounder (not as great as his college numbers suggest though) and a good defender on the wing and paint.
as for ethic and work effort, need i remind everyone that drummond fell to 9 because of them saying he was lazy, yeah not such a good look for the other GM's who passed on him now. he'll come into the nba and work, he ain't no beasley

You just don't pass up on a player with a talent like his. Jumpshot might be the most overreacted skill there is. Even the top swingmen of history really did not enter the league with polished shooting mechanics. Very rare. On the top of my head: Kobe, MJ, VC, Bron, Blake, all relied on athleticism and just developed their jumpshots.
If MKG can fix his form, I believe anyone can.

I think that the Ingram vs Simmons debate comes down to how much one values shooting, because as far as I can tell, that's the only thing Ingram does better than simmons.

If Philly picks Ingram we should get on our feet and thank God that we have a chance at a transcendent player. I don't see what there would be to discuss. You pick him and don't think twice about anything.

Who says no?
Philly trade: #1 pick and Okafor
Lakers trade: #2 pick, Russell and removing all protections off the pick owed to the 76ers
Simmons is the most transcendent talent out of the bunch and Okafor could be the next great offensive big man. Philly gets perimeter help and clears out the log jam in the front court. Plus it could net them another lottery pick next year.

Please. No more Okafor trades. If the Lakers wanted him they would have drafted him.

I do.
As we just hired Luke Walton and we're trading the player we hired him for.
Also does nothing to address the logjam we'd have with Simmons/Randle/Nance.
Also, the way I see it, with free agency shaping up to be a wash, we could easily be bottom-feeders again, so in that case you're trading 3 lottery picks for 2, one of them being an awfully slow-footed dinosaur who is a poor rebounder and antithetical to both Simmons and Luke, all for the sake of trading for a player whom we passed on last year.
Makes zero sense, especially when Ingram fits in perfectly fine with the players we currently have. All just to move up one pick.
Can't wait for the Okafor trades to stop. He's turning into the Lance Stephenson of the summer.

fun topic, fun to talk about but in the end completely out of the Lakers hands... we'll get who we get and in the words of my mom "and you'll like it"...lol

would be a really funny discussion on lottery night in 2017 if we lost a top 3 pick

He's also a better shot blocker and ISO scorer. his length should also allow him to be better defender at the NBA level unlike Simmons who is like Randle under average there.

I can't wait for D Lo to break out so we can stop hearing about Okafor for good.

Ainge is determined to feature Okafor if he can steal him from Philly. Though Bender could be the perfect solution for them.

I say no.
You called him "transcendent" twice in a row now. Do tell, what exactly does he transcend?

With Russell, Clarkson, & Randle how does another ball dominant player make sense? The pick has to be Ingram.

These Okafor trades are getting tiring. The Lakers passed on him and now you you want to trade D'angelo for him just to get the first pick??? Makes no sense. The Lakers are sitting pretty at #2.
