On the eye test Chriss is a far superior athlete with the wider package of skills. Davis has massive feet!

The reason why I'm on team Davis is that he has great defensive upside compared to Chriss. Sure Chriss gets athletic blocks but he's not much of a rebound and doesn't really put a body on people at all.

Davis has shown great lateral quickness on the perimeter and on the interior. He can swtich onto guards and stay in front of them. Plus he's has superior size and length with comparable athleticism that Chriss has. He was also placed in a role when he wasn't required to use his jumpshot. He does have one that goes to the college three point line. Too me, Davis has upside on both ends but his defensive versatility is the final selling point for me. Plus the emphasis from the last draft and I think moving forward is to target two way players.

Davis reminds me of another Davis, Eduardo Davis. But, here's hoping this Davis can actually shoot a jumper on offence.

Here's what I posted in the Draft Thread:

Davis does have a mid range jumpshot. He doesn't use it often but he's shown it and has a soft touch with a high release point. The other nice aspect of his game is his potential pick and roll defense. He's got great lateral quicks and can switch onto guards.

At 1:07 he calls for the ball above the free throw line and sinks the mid range shot.
At 1:34 he hits a shot from almost at the college 3 point line.

In the draftexpress strengths video start at the 1:54 mark to look at his defense. The kid has great lateral quickness and good anticipation.

I'm sold on Davis as a prospect. I'm just not convinced he has the jump shot needed at the 4. If the Raptors' scouts are confident in his potential on that side of the ball, I'm happy with him as the pick.

I think the Chriss rebounding worries are overblown. Players can evolve as rebounders with time. I don't think he will ever be an elite rebounder, but I think he can be a league average rebounder given his size and athleticism. Patrick Patterson is another player who was a terrible rebounder during college and for the first few years in the league, but he's passable now. Chriss can get there with time.

How would you all feel about going with Timothe Luwawu at this pick?

Dunn would be an absolute steal at 9 and would transition nicely post Lowry. I would actually look to trade joseph + 26 to get back into the lottery to get us a pf. Maybe jazz or bucks really need a pg.

Also what do people see in Hield? I feel like he's one of those players that ball out at collage level but struggle in the NBA. His physical profile does not impress.

As for Deyonta Davis, his measurements disappointed me for a guy that's heavily reliant on his physical profile. He's another of those long-necked 6'9 guys who wear lifts to get to 6'10.5 and whose standing reach is the same as all the other 6'8-6'9 guys, hovering around only 9'0. Same with Skal who also disappointed me with his overall length at the combine. 6'11 height with only a 9'0 max reach? That's Ed Davis length and probably similar athleticism in a slightly bulkier frame with a fairly similar game. Energy C game with PF length. Impact role player to me for Davis. If he had DeAndre length and this kind of game that's a different story but he doesn't. That's fine where we are picking I guess but I like some of the names drafted above us here more. I like Skal's finesse upside more and Deyonta's ability to fill out more but neither excites me a ton at the moment.

Would rather package it for a star if we end up mostly looking at an energy role player here and can't find a prospect with upside to be a top 25 player at this respective position here. Honestly, Poetl probably has the best shot at being a top 25 at his position in time of not top 20. He's just boring because it will take years for that to happen and because we have JV so it probably seems even more boring to others. It's the same reason Ellenson has so few fans here. He's highly skilled but he doesn't fit on the team so people are thinking fit.

Honesty, if we are thinking fit we might as well just package it for a star. At least then we know what we are getting and know the impact is going to be higher than some Ed Davis-level PF/C. If we draft then go BPA and pick whomever has a good chance to be at least a top 25 player at their position long-term.

Maybe we could arrange a trade with other team and draft somebody from overseas to leave him there?

I mean, something like...

#9th and #27th picks to Charlotte for #22nd and Charlotte's 2017 1st rd top-5 protected

It is a win/win for both beacause:
- The Bobcats love those white unathletic bigs and there'll be some available at 9th (Poetl, Sabonis, Zimmerman), but not at the 22nd though
- At the 22nd, but I'd pick Luwawu if available, and if not Yabusschere or Korkmaz... I don't see any instant contributor and although there're some PFs I like (Bolomboy, Diallo if available), none of them is what we need anyway.

There'll be some risk with that move as Charlotte played well this year. They have a great coach, a nice PG, solid defenders overally... but their youngs (Kaminsky, Zeller) will always be subpar athletes, Big Al is steadily declining and the only impact move they can make in preseason is maxing Batun IMO.

Wow there are 4 other people besides me that are high on Poeltl. I'm telling you guys, his only flaw is lack of strength which is easy to fix. He would give our bench a consistent scorer. On the current board he is BPA come on guys don't pull a colangello and pick for positional needs.

Also we aren't keeping Bismack. He's gonna get +13 mill easy.

I voted Sabonis not that I think he has the highest ceiling but that he can contribute sooner and have a higher floor. I like that he is sound on all the tangibles you want in a PF except the 3 that I believe he can develop. Think Masai will trade down slightly to get him 9th for 15th & 19th.

Raptor fans drafting based on need

None of the PF's seem that great. Davis's value will depend on his defense, which is mainly what I'm looking for in a big that can't be a go to guy. If he can be an elite defender, then I wouldn't mind drafting him..but that's hard to gauge and I don't think he'll be good enough there to warrant drafting him. Chriss and Skal are a bit more of a project. These guys are all just a bit too flawed and have a higher potential to bust or turn into low end role players.

Korkmaz has more offensive star potential than any of them and Luwawu has better two way potential.

I want Sabonis....simply because if he's anything like his father this guy will be a steal.

D. Davis based on who is available. Korkmaz should be an option though

I said Davis. But truth told I waver like a mofo. Chriss has higher upside, as does Skal.

Poeltl, Sabonis and Ellenson are a tier below, but doesn't make me cry if Masai and crew see something special. Same with the wings in our range.

Basically it is really hard to see any clear pick between picks 7-17 in this draft. Naturally I want a PF who can play defense and Davis has the look of a guy who could do more than he was asked to in college, that and the way his body has filled out lately gives him that extra point.

Marquese Chriss by a nose. Thanks for playing, and good luck in the draft.
Comments to rationalize bad contracts -
1) It's less than the MLE
2) He can be traded later
3) It's only __% of the cap
4) The cap is going up
5) It's only __ years
6) He's a good mentor/locker room guy

After spending more time watching Skal he's my pick at 9 if we stay here. There's enough poor man's Bosh/Ibaka shooting and defence there to make the investment worth it.

I did. I like his offensive game and think a big guy of that size who can already shoot the ball like that is always going to be valuable.
