Celtics fans seem to favor Noel

Post#1 » by Dell » Sat May 28, 2016 10:09 pm

I've been reading a handful of Celtics forums, including their Reddit and it seems like they overwhelmingly prefer Noel to Okafor. I know Nerlens is a local guy up there, but I found it interesting.

The consensus is most would happily do Noel for either the #3 pick of the Nets pick next year, with some even suggesting they throw in a 2nd round pick to sweeten the deal.

Obviously fans don't make trades, but I would absolutely deal Noel to Boston for either the #3 or preferably the Nets 17' pick. Overall I'd prefer to trade Noel than Okafor anyway. Jah's offensive upside is fascinating.

Noel doesn't have that kind of value, but I do that in a heartbeat. The below lineup would be great and plausible.

PG: Murray
SG: Courtney Lee
SF: Roco/Jerami
PF: Simmons/Holmes
C: Okafor/Embiid

From their perspective they get a couple of things out of the deal:

1. Noel will make them an elite defensive team with his ability to switch and protect the rim.

2. Noel will be a great finisher off of Thomas' penetration

3. Noel is a local area player who is very likely to re-sign and stay there long-term.

I really like the deal for next year's first as I'm not a huge fan of the guys available at pick 3 but I'd also do the deal for pick 3 this year and take Murray/Bender (unless the Lakers are dumb enough to pass on Ingram).

Who cares what fans think. What really matters is what front offices think and they are calling about Okafor not Noel according to reports.

Teams around the league know Okafor true worth not only as a player but also a player on a rookie deal. If their fans don't who cares?

Of course they would. They have a stable of legitimate perimeter defenders. Adding a rim protector with DPotY potential like Noel would make them one of the most feared defenses in the NBA.

When you win twice as many games with Henry Sims at Center, why blame him.

Actually if you ask me which Center I want for my perfect championship caliber team, I will chose Asik hands down

Courtney Lee and Roco are solid defender. Also Simmons has the physical tools to be a very good defender; quick feet, quick hand, and lateral quickness. The only concern is Murray and Okafor, but we can hide Murray under the right defensive scheme. Hopefully Okafor improves defensively, if not we can always put in Embiid.

This is what I was going to say. That proposed lineup would probably be the worst defensive squad in history.

Hyperbole much. How can that lineup be worst than last year squad consisting of Isiah Canaan, Nik Stauskas, Ish Smith, and Hollis Thompson which all post a negative DPM lol.

Every proposed lineup fans make here that includes Okafor just solidifies how important it is that we trade him.

Murray / Lee / Covington / Simmons / Okafor is so gross. That team would be unwatchable.

Coming from an Okafor hater, of course it is. That team would be an amazing watch if you ask me :D

great logic to justify to trade okafor. how about we keep okafor and noel and next year lineup:

josh jackson
malik monk
simmons/covington
okafor/saric
embiid/noel
Embiid-Simmons-Covington

Dunn is a huge upgrade on defense...that's his biggest appeal.

I'd be fine with trading Noel to the Celtics only if we are drafting Ingram.

I do think an Embiid/Okafor frontcourt could work because they both have faceup ability. Ingram's shooting would open up the court a bit while doing wonders on PnR switches due to his length. Dunn is obviously a freak on defense, but I think his ability to pass in the post is what makes him so alluring to me. Those two would score A LOT.

PG: Dunn
SG: I dunno, Stauskas?
SF: Ingram
PF: Okafor
C: Embiid

A great blend of offense and defense along with great length (aside from Stauskas).

Hyperbole? Of course. But is that proposed lineup worse than the 10 win team? I mean, last year they were ranked 26th defensively by PPP, so they weren't even the worst team.

That proposed team would probably give up 1.4 points per possession at minimum. Can't stop penetration, can't close out on shooters, no rim protection, and only average rebounding (Simmons inflated rebounding numbers at LSU not withstanding).

What is your point? My proposed lineup is way better than last year squad defensively. Last season, none of our backcourt have a positive DPM. At least Courtney Lee as a defender is better than whatever we have, heck I might go out to get Batum just to get some perimeter defense. Okafor isn't a great rim protector but his weakness get exacerbated because we don't have any guard that can prevent dribble penetration. We can sit here and play hypothetical all day, but I rather have a lineup that can score to help offset our piss poor defense. Last year team has no offense or defense.
