How Awesome Has This Season Been?

Post#1 » by bondom34 » Sat May 28, 2016 8:36 am

Honestly, I'm not alone here right? No matter what happens, KD is most definitely hanging around, this team gelled under a new and improved coach, is an average age of about 25, one of the youngest conference finalists ever, and everyone thought they weren't contenders. Well, here we are. After this whole year with a shot to make the finals. I'm thrilled with this season and the growth I have seen. Here's hoping it continues.

This season has been terrific so far. I'm shocked to see how far this team has developed from the coaching staff to the players. In addition to a wonderful season, Adams, Roberson, Waiters (I can't believe I just typed his name), and even Kanter, all look great out there. Especially- Steven Adams. The man is a monster in the paint! Also, our coach Billy Donovan improved a lot this season. Never would I expect this team to make it all the way to the WCF to face a tough GSW team and we're only one win away to the finals. I amused that SAS would destroy us, but I was wrong. Same goes for the GSW- I thought they would trample us.

Overall, I hope KD resigns with this team win or lose.

It's been great but if we don't go through after being 3-1 up and a chance to close at home with two top five players? Can positive spin it all you like, but there won't be much consolation for me.

So far they have done what they were supposed to do. Donovan has been everything anyone could have expected so far. Even when OKC went to the Finals fans knew Brooks was the weak link and we were stuck with the question of who could we replace him with. It doesn't feel that way with Donovan. They still have 5 more wins to get. After that we can start our hardcore worrying about the off-season and the salary cap.

I am no longer concerned at all about KD resigning. My concern was that if OKC got blown away by Golden State he would leave for them. However, after OKC has beaten them on the road, hung with them on the road and blown them out twice in OKC I'm not worried because KD knows he has the pieces in OKC to beat them. The only place KD could go with an equal chance to win as OKC would be Golden State with Curry, Klay and Green. I just don't see KD bailing on a team that has shown they are as good as any when healthy.

All the questions about the off-season with Kanter and Waiters will be settled in July. I'm not worried about it at this point. Presti has shown that he is more than capable of filling in the pieces.

I have a feeling 3 weeks ago you would have been shocked to see this post from yourself right now.

I do wonder and was thinking about making a thread about it. Even if OKC loses game 7, do most fans consider this season a success? I know there will be disgust at blowing the series (though GS made some crazy shots that few teams would have been able to overcome), but knowing now that this team is beginning to come together under the new coach, and even if they lose they know they can not only compete with anyone, but dominate anyone at any time.

I think for the most part, Donovan has done a good job with adjustments in the playoffs and that he really has that defense playing some great ball. I think besides the crazy shooting by GS, the reason for the miscues on offense down the stretch were just the same nerves and resorting to individual tendencies down the stretch by OKC's players.

The players, moreso than most teams, seem very easy to forget what happened in previous games when they go into the next one (see game 2 in SA). They know they can win in GS, so I don't expect them to go down easily at all. Nothing in this series or with OKC in the playoffs has gone as expected, so I wouldn't be surprised if they pulled it out. OK, maybe I'd be surprised, but I wouldn't be shocked if I ended up once again being surprised at the result.

Thunder have been amazing in the playoffs. I made a post before the Warriors series where I said that I didn't see the Thunder challenging the Warriors, and predicted GS in 5. Boy was I wrong!

I really like what Adams, Roberson, Ibaka, and even Waiters have been bringing to the table.

Congratulations on a tremendous season! Adams has grown into a star, Roberson is as tough a defender as there is and Ibaka continues to grow. Kanter has an excellent offensive game and needs to be used more on that end.

The future is bright in OKC!

Thunder & Westbrook skeptic checking in here:

I was wrong.

This Thunder team was phenomenal destroying the Spurs, and I want y'all to know that as someone who was cheering for GS, the Warriors got incredibly lucky to win this series. Green should have been suspended, and if Klay doesn't utterly catch fire from distance in Game 6 this series is over.

I don't know what the future holds. Golden State is a very tough rival precisely because you can force them to take "bad" shots and it still works out, but it's clear to me this Thunder team is already a championship-level team, and you're now in a situation with pretty solid fit and young role players who can get better. Plus I feel a heck of a lot better about Donovan than I did during the regular season.

The league is terrified of you now on a whole new level, whether they admit it or not.

(Also, F Reggie Jackson! Seriously.)

It was definitely a dramatic season (with a lot of complaining by us the fans and the media) but it was a hell of a ride. And to be honest I did not expect this team to battle that hard after those up and downs during the regular season.

I´m proud of them and made my peace with the result. Of course I would have loved to see them in the finals and maybe even beat the Cavs but to lose to a team as good as the warriors (in a Game 7 WCF) is more than I belived in midway through the season.

I really hope the players can appreciate what they have achieved, move on and come back better and stronger next year!

THUNDER UP!!!

The season as a whole was ****. The playoffs were pretty awesome though.
“If you're getting stops and you're making threes and the other team's not scoring, that's when you're going to see a huge point difference there,” coach Billy Donovan said.
