I realize you can't always bank on these rankings but this should be an exciting new era for us. They are basing it however off the fact that we get some star free agents to come here in the next few summers. Regardless, very excited for things to come

They talked about 2017/2018 season and the potential of us getting Paul George. So the next 1-3 years. Still OKC (barring a KD departure) is a very young team with 2 of the top five players. I feel Boston has one all star on there team Thomas. Besides maybe Avery Bradley I don't see any other future all stars either. The Spurs have Kawai, Aldridge, pop, and are some of the best players in the draft. I just find it hard to see Boston in the top 3

I'd put Bos 10th, no way ahead of Min or Port. Miami is also too high. Detroit too low.

In fact, what's the basis of this ranking; what parameters were used to determine this order.

I like it. People laugh at Boston but they were pretty good last year and they have the third pick. There's no indication that they'll regress

It's not even that though. I just don't see how you put a team like Boston with no superstars over a team like OKC who has two and a much better team at that. I don't see Bender being that superstar for them but I could be wrong

Its nothing against Boston. I think moat admit that the past two years theyve over achieved but good for them. You dont over achieve into a top 3 team in the league. When playoffs come, the cream rises to the top

Okc's Stars' contracts expire soon so there's no guarantee they will be back.
Boston has the third pick, cap space, young productive players on bargain contracts who are entering their prime and a big market with a storied franchise.

Well: Orlando will be in the playoffs in 2-years time. This places them above 16. At 13, that is probably a neutral, fair vote.

I think they're assuming, at this juncture anyway, that Durant will leave OKC. And if they lose tonight I could see it happening. They've gotten so close a number of times and have always just come up short. I could see Durant feeling a change is necessary. Smart thing is probably to stay though. Then again with the cap exploding there are a lot of good teams that could probably offer him a max.

This is literally the WORST offseason to do these kinds of rankings. Free agency could be insane, the league could be upside down next year. But for the sake of ignoring any major shakeups via free agency I can see where they're going with a lot of this.

Boston and Miami are clearly too high though. Boston should be high on the list, but not that high. Should probably be switched with Minnesota. Just glancing through the list and i'd also move Indiana down. Not sure why they have Toronto so low. They're the 2nd best team in the East, a few key additions and healthy in the playoffs and they could challenge Cleveland.

I actually think the Lakers should be higher. I'd love to see them bottom dwell for years, but it's just not going to happen. They'll land free agents once that team starts showing any signs of life, and they've got some pretty good talent and the #2 pick.

PHILADELPHIA at #19 is a joke. I understand people think they have to improve sometime just by sheer odds, but they've been the laughing stock of the league for years. Until they at least sniff 30 wins they should be relegated to bottom 5 futures no matter what.

I'd say Washington's too high too. I like that they hired Scott brooks. But Besides the obvious (Wall,Beal,Porter) I don't see a whole lot of talent on that team. I don't see Porter being a star either. Beals set to get a max contract from them this summer too and has been injured his whole career

The Future Power Rankings are ESPN Insider's projection of the on-court success expected for each team in the 2016-17, 2017-18 and 2018-19 seasons.

The Magic continue their three-year run of treading water, though they have made a major leap in our FPR, this year from No. 23 to No. 13.

Cap space is the primary reason behind the move upward. We're projecting the Magic to have the third-best cap position in the league for the next three years. Orlando has always been a popular destination for free agents because of the weather and lack of state income tax.

And with a number of interesting young players in the fold -- led by Victor Oladipo, Aaron Gordon, Elfrid Payton and Mario Hezonja -- the Magic have enough talent to perhaps lure a young star or two over the next few years.

We also see the resignation of Scott Skiles and the hiring of Frank Vogel as a blessing. Skiles is notoriously difficult to play for. Vogel, on the other hand, was well loved in Indiana and could be an attractive head coach for an elite free agent -- especially Indiana's Paul George, who can opt out of his contract after the 2017-18 season.
