Bob Geren has to be in Dave's ear there man.
He has experience as a manager. He has experience as a bench coach for that Mets staff with a ton of talented pitchers (none are Kershaw though).

Did you see the look on Kershaw's face?
I'm not sure if tonight's win, in and of itself, is worth that look/ him being pissed/ not trusting Dave?

Dave srsly needs to apologize to Kershaw man to man and promise he'll never do that to him again. We'll take the L before he takes him out in that situation.

I saw that too. Like I've said, I've given Roberts a lot of leeway, but losing the faith and support from your Hall-of-Fame ace pitcher is not something that can be forgiven. I didn't notice the move when it happened since I was distracted with another task while watching the game, but once I figured out what happened, I was scratching my head.

I was thinking whether it was a directive from the front office to go with the maybe sabermetrically better pitcher in Liberatore, especially in light of Jansen's back-to-back flubs against Melvin Upton, Jr., but I couldn't imagine anyone being convinced by such an argument. Then I thought maybe Roberts was afraid of Jansen being rusty, especially after the aforementioned struggles recently. Was Roberts trying to reward Liberatore and/or punish Jansen for their respectively different recent outings?

There were just a lot of questions I was asking trying to justify the move and I wasn't onboard with any of them. I think I saw Dave put his arm around Kershaw in the TV shot to close the game, but I couldn't make out the face of the player. Whatever the case may be, Manager Dave has to do some repair work, not only with Clayton, but with his own management approach right now.

If I don't see correction and improvement, I might go **** on yet another Fire-somebody campaign and a new email address to go with it. Vinnie Del Roberts is wearing out some of our welcome quickly.

Donnie Balls was a net zero manager who couldn't pull the trigger at the right moment, whom carried us to the exact record of what pythagorean therom had predicted each year he was here. so far Vinnie the "right way" Del Roberts is net negative of 2. we should be 29-22 right now. If by the end of the season, if Dave can't get us at least to match net zero of Donnie Balls territory, I swear I am gonna go ****. I am not asking for someone like Clint Hurdle or Ned Yost whom have managed get five to six more wins each season, just be goddamn +1. please. just net positive one... is that too much to ask from our manager?

Unfortunately, if this doesn't end up working out, I see Gabe Kapler in our future.

To think we had a shot at Joe Maddon.

I did like the Idea of the continuity of having Friedman and Maddon together, but he is waaaaay overrated as a manager.

since he was hired by the Rays in 2006,

year - pythagorean # - actual W/L - +/-
2006 --- 65-97 ---------61-101 ----- minus 4
2007 --- 67-95 ---------66-96 ------ minus 1
2008 --- 92-70 ---------97-65 ------ plus 5
2009 --- 86-76 ---------84-78 ------ minus 2
2010 --- 96-66 ---------96-66 ------ wash
2011 --- 91-71 ---------91-71 ------ wash
2012 --- 95-67 ---------90-72 ------ minus 5
2013 --- 87-76 ---------92-71 ------ plus 5
2014 --- 79-83 ---------77-85 ------ minus 2

all of his hailed glory and his net worth over the 9 seasons in Tampa, is net negative 4.

not saying numbers tell the only story, and Maddon is a good manager. but I feel he is still a AL manager, as Donnie was. I want a NL manager. I think Dave can be that, but he has so much to grow to be that.

maybe my personal discourse is due to a very small sample. on paper, Bob Geren to work with Dave Roberts seemed like such a good pairing. maybe in a long run things will work out.

PS- Maddon over in Chicago is net negative 3 right now.
ehhhhh f it.

wow Heyward missed a routine flyball with two outs. the broadcaster jinxed him good with saying the cubs are leading all baseball in defensive efficiency just before that play.

love the approach at bat by the vets, Utley struck out but took 7 pitches and pushed it to the full count. Turner got lucky on that drop but he took it to the full count too. Seager on the other hand, shows his green-ness. his last 2 pitches were terrible. neither was a strike and both were fairly obvious. but he is being aggressive, and we are still alive on top of the first. our guys pushed Jason Hammels to more than 20 pitches already and Gonzo just took a walk. great approach to this game after such a short rest from last night in New York.

Shotout for those numbers and that Urias age discussion.

One thing I want from Roberts now is to let Yasiel Puig play.
His defense is good enough. Let him work himself out of his slump. He's 25. He doesn't need days off. If you want to play Trayce, put him in LF. If you're going to sit him from time to time, then your function towards him is no different than Mattingly.

Damn I hate when the 8 hitter makes the last out and the pitcher has to bat to start the next inning.

LMFAO at Addison Russell not having a scouting report on Crawford and it shocking Crawford so much he nearly had a seizure in the OF.

LMFAO at the DOdgers for having this filth on their team.

we should have dumped him to the Rays to have his glorious retirement party for the next two seasons while we pay 90% of his salary. now at this point I feel the roster spot is far more important than what we are paying him to put up a .508 OPS for us.

Looks like our worst fears on Alex Wood's delivery might be coming true.

Placed on the DL with elbow trouble.
Urias getting another shot.

Urias will do great if given 2-3 more starts, but the problem will be sending him back down due to innings limits once he starts to show his greatness.

So Urias starts tomorrow instead of Friday at home against the Braves.

Look Kenta, I know you're better on an extra day's rest but I'm more concerned with Urias's development at this point than ONE start from you.

You can't possibly have this kid's 1st 2 starts be against 2 NL playoff teams on the road, one being the best offense in baseball.

Whoever made this call is stupid...and Maeda needs to adjust and get used to pitching on 4 days rest.

_____________
great, Puig comes into this season in shape and his hammy still goes bum on him.
DL stint coming up for sure.

Alex Wood's MRI revealed a posterior impingement in his elbow requiring approximately 4 weeks of rest. He will be re-evaluated at that time.

You guys want to give me a timeline on when you expect this crummy offense to turn it around?

Doesn't hit good pitching at all.
2 overrated bullpens are why we've survived this trip so far.

ahhh... i disagree on this one.

yes I do care a hell of a lot more about the development of our next uber ace Julio, but it is far more likely that a teenage arm can adapt to irregular work load in a short term than a late 20's grown ass man's shoulder and his elbow. not saying at all in anyway that we should cater to Kenta's needs over Julio's, but this kid is coming off of 80 some pitch count in New York, with no injury history, and youthful hormones running throgh his vein looking for a redemption,. Kenta on the other hand is a damaged good who is managing his partially torn elbow who is playing through the pain. I don't hab ea problem with giving him an extra day off with the kid who is ruing on nothing but adrenalin at this point

I don't care about Urias being on an irregular workload. I care about him being thrown to the Wolves, not once but twice.

If Kenta's arm and pitching regiment in Japan prevented him from throwing on 4 days rest, then he shouldn't have been signed. The last 2-3 weeks we've been mixing and matching to find ways to give him that 5th day. Is it worth it? He's not Darvish. He's not Otani. Get with the program. Are we going to be doing this in October?

I hate that I have to watch this young baby faced, wet behind the ears kid face murderer's row tomorrow.

I hope he knocks em dead and we can all share a laugh about how well he did there.
But that hasnt happened yet and for now, I'm not positive it's going to go well and I hope like hell it doesn't mess with his psyche for the rest of the year.
