Why are we scouting SG??
I don't get it Kcp, Meeks, Hilliard was a 2nd rd steal, Bullocks, and S Johnson, I know
At some point you take the best player available, but really I think a 2 or 3 is
only if all other players not able to make the league are available at every other position.
I still want to deal meeks. Does anyone think we need another 2 or 3?

Re: Why are we scouting SG??
You really don't think we could use a good shooter off the bench? Meeks is not a factor in our future, and neither Hilliard or Bullock should be considered good enough to impact first round draft plans.
Just because we have several of them doesn't mean they're good enough.

Re: Why are we scouting SG??
Who are you referring to in terms of Detroit scouting shooting guards? These are the only workouts I've seen reported for the Pistons:

All of those guards are second round picks at best, and at 49 in any draft you absolutely consider best player available regardless of position.

It looks like we're targeting BPA judging from those tweets.
Stan has said it repeatedly that he wants an actual PF and likely to also bolster the bench unit too. That looks like where we're headed.

Well most those names look like targets for the second rounder anyways

A couple more shooting guards in there, but still nobody worth considering before the 49th pick if at all.

Re: Why are we scouting SG??
We have 1 SG under contract beyond next year. The draft isn't for immediate needs (since most rookies aren't going to make a difference their 1st year). It's a long term investment. With KCP due big money next year, if we can draft someone just as good or better on a rookie deal instead, that's smart management.
I think we need to stop drafting for position anyways though. We should be drafting based on skills. Just because we have guys at a position doesn't mean they have the skills we need. And just because we have a need at another position doesn't mean we just take the BPA at that position. I feel like that was what we did with Johnson, and while we did get a SF, we never addressed the actual need at that position of perimeter shooting and now it still remains a need. We have to start prioritizing skillset and fit over overall talent/potential.

Re: Why are we scouting SG??
Where we are drafting, we can't expect our draftees to be making an immediate impact. We are doing BPA for sure.
Of course we need backup PG and backup (or starter) PF more than a wing, and we are going to have to get them them through trades or free agency.

Re: Why are we scouting SG??
I think SVG likes KCP, but he'd rather have a shooter then a defender at the 2 spot. The Orlando trade last year, I believe it started not focused on T Harris but rather on Evan Fournier, I also remember the pistons trying to get him in the trade somehow. SVG wants another shooter at the 2, I think he realizes KCP isn't a good mix with Drummond/Jackson. As much of a good player as I think KCP is, and his continued improvement, I think he's just not the greatest fit for what SVG wants to do moving forward.

I think its just due diligence. If they could find a Clay Thompson of a Stephen Curry I don't think we, Pistons fans would mind

Pretty much this. Yea we have a few sgs already on the roster but outside of kcp nothing is really for sure for the others.

crazy talk, if he was part of what he was doing moving forward, he would have been moved along with all the other pieces that didnt fit. people want stars at every position, KCP has the best defense on the roster, ill say it again, KCP HAS THE BEST DEFENSE ON THE ROSTER. he isnt going anywhere unless someone comes knocking with a Star trade.

Re: Why are we scouting SG??
I just think Kcp is part of the future until a deal leads to a better SG. I think we have several other SG that mostly just need minutes to see how good they can be, all have shown potential, why even waste another 2nd rd pick on a Sg, bulk up everywhere else, I guess I just like all t he Sg we have and think they all have the ability to be better than we've see. Any Pf or Pg is needed.Stan consistently through his career has held 4 pgs on his roster, any pg. Can be a Sg effectively as a 2 to an extent they r productive as a 1, but they usually can't defend. We should be looking to find a second rd steal at any other position than Sg . I know they can't shoot, (2)but they all can defend. But in the end I realize this second rd pick is meaningless, but again Im watching Draymond every night, and he was a 2nd rd Pf that slipped past everyone. Why another Sg?

Re: Why are we scouting SG??
Does anybody remember if the Pistons brought in DInwiddie for a predraft workout (or visit since he was still recovering from his ACL tear)? I know they did so for both Johnson and Hilliard last year. When teams do this it obviously means they're interested in the prospect at some level but if Dinwiddie was brought in then that would make them three for three in players drafted who worked out for Detroit since the new regime took over.
The players they bring in over the next three weeks or so are definitely worth keeping an eye on. Those thirteen mentioned in Langlois' tweets are the only ones I've seen so far, although Maker hasn't actually worked out for them yet.

KCP isnt going anywhere. his elite defense makes him top 5 SG in NBA in my opinion.

Re: Why are we scouting SG??
I'd love to actually get a backup SG though, considering KCP was playing better offensively with Meeks taking the pressure off of him and providing minutes off the bench when he was resting.
It's too bad Meeks hasn't made the most out of his tenure here, he was showing life as a decent sixth man-ish type guy that just comes on and gets buckets. We really are missing a critical piece in all competitive playoff teams, a decent sixth man.

Re: Why are we scouting SG??
We need shooters, sgs can often shoot. Also why wouldn't you scout every position?
