Rules:

-Each person will have a 6 hour window to make their selection once they are on the clock.

-After you make your selection, be sure to quote the person after you saying that they are next (this way they get a notification telling them it is their turn).

-This will be a modified snake draft. It goes like this.. ABBAABBA

-We will be drafting 8 players so there will be 8 rounds.

-When a person drafts a certain player, another person can't draft them and just switch the year/season they played--when a player is drafted they are gone from the pool.

-We will be using basketball-reference.com as our guide to look up specific seasons, stats, and FGA for players.

Please remember, if you know ahead of time that you won't be around to make your pick then PM me the guy you want to take so I can make the selection for you. This way the draft can keep moving along.

Also, make sure to add a picture with the player you select! :D

With the 3rd overall pick I will be selecting..

Hakeem "The Dream" Olajuwon

Image

In terms of accolades, achievements, and awards Shaq is better

In terms of pure talent and skill Olajuwon is better

Obviously you can't go wrong with either but I'm happy because this is the guy I want to build my team around and i think it will be easier to do so than building around Shaq. Haven't decided on a specific year yet but it will obviously be early 90's.

With the 4th Pick in the "90s to Now" Fantasy Draft, the Moose Kings select:

Image

LeBron James, 2012-2013, 17.8 FGA/G
MVP, FMVP, All-NBA First Team, All-Defensive First Team, All Star
26.8 PTS @ 64.0 TS% (41% on 3.3 3PA/G), 8.0 TRB, 7.3 AST, 1.7 STL, 0.9 BLK, 125 Ortg, 101 Drtg, 32 PER, .322 WS/48, +11.6 BPM
25.9 PTS @ 58.5 TS% (38% on 4.2 3PA/G), 8.4 TRB, 6.6 AST, 1.8 STL, 0.8 BLK, 118 Ortg, 101 Drtg, 28 PER, .260 WS/48, +10.2 BPM

Between this year and 2009, but I feel that added versatility in terms of distance shooting, post play and the size to play the 4 in small ball takes it slightly ahead in a team building context (plus saving those 2.1 shots will be useful down the road). Obviously in terms of what he can do, he's a legitimate anchor at both ends and one of the most versatile players of the hyper-athletes. Very happy to grab him here. Will add more later once I fill my team out around him.

Well, I have about three legitimate options for this pick, and I considered all of them at one point.. But...

I'll take the Admiral.

Image

Absolutely dominant defensively and a great offensive hub from the center position.

Even with the 90s included the list of ATG centers is a short one, so i'm thrilled to get one of them

Year unknown. Probably '95, maybe '96 or '92 if I get tight on FGA.

Can't pass this guy up here. Great on both ends of the floor and gives me versatility as he can play the 4 or 5. The most dependable player to build a championship contender around. My pick is:

Tim Duncan. Undecided on the year right now

This will be fun. 1991 Magic Johnson. 2nd best player in the league behind Jordan. Was even better than his previous MVP season and dragged that Lakers team to the finals. 62.3 TS% and highest freethrow rate of his career. Best assist season of his career per 100 possessions.

With the 9th pick in the 90's to Now Fantasy Draft, ChicagoSportsFan21 selects...

Spoiler:
Dirk Nowitzki-PF-Dallas Mavericks

Image

I got the player that I wanted. I never built a team around Dirk in a draft before so I thought it would be fun to do. He's arguably the best big man shooter of all time...great mid-range and three point shooter. He knows what it takes to win as he's a champion, a great all around team player/competitor as well. He checks off all the criteria that is needed in a franchise player to build a team around. Welcome to the team, Dirk!

I'm going with Stephen Curry

Stephen Curry
Imo the best shooter of alltime and he might be the best offensive player of alltime. Volume shooter that has one of the highest tS% of alltime and it is higher than shaq and Barkley ts%. He is elite at ballhandling and is great at finishing. He is a threat with and without the ball. He creates spacing for the rest of the team because he needs to be guarded at alltimes because of his elite 3pt shooting and quick release and it makes it a lot easier for his teammates.

He is solid on defense, he is not an athletic freak but he makes up for it with his smarts.

20.2 fga. 30,1 pts on 66,9 TS%, ( 45,4% on 11.2 3PA/G ), 6,7 ast/ 5,4 trb/ 2,1 stl/ 0,2 blk/ 125 Ortg/ 103 Drtg/ 31.5 per, / .318ws/48 12,5 bpm/ 9,8 vorp

Well, I love Inside the NBA, but Shaq's gone and I can't take Ernie Johnson. So ...

The Brain-Dead Kennedys select Charles Barkley (year TBD; in fact, I may even have to edit the pic to a Sixers uniform).

Image

1994-95 (probably) Scottie Pippen

Absolute defensive anchor. 2.9 steals per game, 1.1 blocks per game. This was the greatest defensive season of his career in terms of defensive win shares (6.7; 11.8 total). 21.4 ppg, had to be respected at the 3 point line (hit 4.0 3's per game). Pippen is known as MJ's robin, but he's absolutely one of the greatest players of the 90's in his own right. This is the season where he was batman on a still very good Bulls team. All NBA Defensive first team.

Pippen gives my team a gritty defensive anchor. I can put him on a star player on the perimeter and completely negate said player. Also 8.1 rebounds per game gives me a SF that'll get after it on the glass.

I reserve the right to change the year if I need to.

Image

1991-92 Dennis Rodman. The Worm.

Continuing with the Theme of defense. All NBA Defensive first teamer. 7.0 defensive win shares (most in the league that season), career high 12.6 total win shares. An eye popping 18.7 total rebounds per game (most in the NBA; 12.3 defensive, and 6.4 offensive rebounds per game, most in the NBA in both categories). Rodman will outwork everyone on the glass; he'll limit opposing attacks to just one possession, while getting second position for my team on offense. Just 7.7 FGA. Can sometimes step out and stretch the floor a bit (1.2 3's per game on 31.7% shooting).

Rodman can guard all five position on the court, and gives me a defensive anchor down low, to compliment Pippen's defense on the perimeter. This is still Pistons Rodman so the image used isn't correct (I just really like the tenacity shown in the pic), but 1991-92 was the best year of Rodman's career by far, according to both basic stats and advanced stats.

There's a run of guys who have big impacts on the game without taking a ton of shots, and I'll be damned if I'm not going to get in on it!

Image

91-92

All time great passer, strong defender, lead the league in steals in selected year, good 3 point shooting, only 11 FGA per game. Checks off all of my boxes and gives me flexibility going forward.
