Re: Official #1 pick thread: Simmons or Ingram? Merging topics and a Poll
Heres the thing. I like both guys rather equally in some regards. I just feel like some where attacking Simmons with faulty evidence (not you btw). That being sad, I've already admitted Simmons is higher on my board if only because I am terrified of passing on him only for him to live up to the hype. I think if all goes right for Simmons (which is difficult to say happens for anyone) and the same for Ingram...while that would be neat...a part of me always will feel a little salty.
and to get my negadelphian on for a bit...i don't think either guy are knock down drag out superstars anyway. But I think of the two Simmons has more of a chance to at least be close to that. He's marketable for one which is sadly important in todays NBA and is a unique player...if there is a chance, I'd put it on him. Again I love Ingram. I just worry about him getting bodied for a bit while Simmons is stylin in LA..and hearing all of the **** and having to go..."well wait until he matures doe"...only for it to never happen. Not being able to shoot is a big deal...but I can wait for that because for every airball or bitch made not going to shoot moment, there will be highlights.
Its weird. I agree with a lot of the pro Ingram group. Yes, he is an easier fit, doesn't require as much meddling, we can go after Dunn with ease, all of that is really interesting. But I just know if we pass on Simmons he goes to LA and learns how to shoot. I don't fear that with Ingram., as he'll go to LA and fit in with Russell and whoever they get via FA...and by two years as he fills out...we more than likely will have a great wing prospect of our own so who cares by then.
Its not rational at all I know..but I'm no expert at these things.
SO as it stands. I like both. I just feel like some of the vitriol about Simmons is a bit unfair. His jumper sucks. It can hold him back if he doesn't fix it. However, he is the first guy we have taken of that ilk that doesn't have the issues (age, athleticism, size, handle) that prevented the others (Iggy, Thad, Turner and MCW) from fixing it and Brett's work with Noel and Jah (and Embiid) is very reassuring.

For those wondering why Simmons chose LSU and what his family is like.
http://www.campusrush.com/ben-simmons-lsu-tigers-2016-nba-draft-1574133776.html
VII. Ben Simmons is not one to keep a large circle.
His texting relationship with LeBron is so sacred that he won't share any details with his family, save for revealing a key piece of advice the superstar gave him: Keep your family close. Which is why Ben did not simply tolerate but welcomed his relatives' relocation from Australia, first to be with him for his senior year at Montverde and now to be near LSU. It is also one reason why Ben committed to LSU so early in the recruiting process, on Oct. 14, 2013. The final assistant coach that Jones hired, after taking the job in 2012, was Simmons's godfather, David Patrick.
Patrick moved from Bermuda to Melbourne with his Sri Lanka-born mother, Victoreen, when he was 10. As a young teen, David was in the Melbourne Tigers' junior program while Dave Simmons and fellow import Lanard Copeland, a former Georgia State star, played for the senior club. "I didn't have a father figure, and there weren't many people of color in Melbourne then to relate to," Patrick says. "Those two guys took me under their wing."
In the young Patrick, Dave Simmons saw a "trustworthy kid whose mother cared about education" and encouraged him to further his schooling in the U.S. A 1994 junior-team tour took David through Baton Rouge, where Chapel Trafton took him in as a senior-year exchange student. He later played college ball at Syracuse and Louisiana-Lafayette.
As a rookie with Australia's Canberra Cannons in 1999–2000, Patrick not only played alongside his mentor, the then 36-year-old Dave Simmons, but also lived in Dave and Julie's house with the young Ben and Olivia. Two years later, in a Catholic ceremony in Newcastle, Patrick became Ben's godfather. And in 2014, when Patrick's mother was in the final, fatal months of her battle with breast cancer, she moved into the Simmonses' Melbourne home to be cared for by Julie.
The bond continues in Baton Rouge. On the Sunday before Christmas 2015, while Patrick was off recruiting in Florida, the Simmonses babysat his young daughters, Bailee and Madison. As David and Julie sat together on a living-room couch, the Patrick girls were with Emily in the kitchen, making a brunch of chocolate-chip pancakes and quiche. "When people say we're close," Patrick says of the families, "they usually don't know how close."

BC has seen Ingram. I don't get the resentment on BC not being at every workout. Ingram is going to visit anyway. He's still going to the Lakers so it won't matter anyway.

I'm talking about how he was basically saying Simmons is the pick. It's not necessary, regardless if you're for or against picking him.

Well Simmons is the pick. It's pretty obvious. I don't see the big deal with that. He's the best player in the draft. He has already seen footage of the games with Simmons and Ingram and many other prospects. This is an easy pick as number one and you're mad because he's going to take the obvious best player? What's the problem?

See my post in the earlier page. However, I think I'm currently speaking to the Pope of the Church of Simmons, so I won't try to convince you.

There is no church of Simmons. He has his flaws but again it's obvious he's the best prospect. This is why it's an easy decision to take Simmons at number one. No one is debating between Simmons vs Dunn because Simmons is a better prospect. No one is debating Simmons vs Murray because he's a better prospect. Same with Simmons vs Ulis or Simmons vs Brown. So Simmons vs Ingram falls into the same category as the others. Simmons is a better prospect. Easy decision.

Every time I see Ingram I'm amazed just how skinny he is. I mean, it's beyond skinny. Like Manute Bol skinny. Arms and legs like sticks.

Same as last year. There was no debate for the top pick. Towns was the best prospect. It wasn't a debate. No one made a big stink about it last year. This year Simmons is the best prospect. It is what it is.

Up to 90 pages of insanity that turned to inanity about 40 pages ago, but still going strong. Can't we all just get along and unite by simply hating Jerry Colangelo??

This.
It's not that Simmons has no flaws. It's not that Simmons is being worshiped as a deity. It's just that there's quite simply no worthy competitor to snatch the #1 pick from him. Notice how nobody is attempting to building a case for Ingram, they're just scrambling for ways to talk themselves out of Simmons.
I said it before, D'Angelo Russell vs. Ben Simmons would be a worthy debate with points and counterpoints in both directions. Personally, I wouldn't go all-in one way or the other. I'd be truly conflicted.
This, on the other hand, is not a worthy debate. Brandon Ingram quite simply wasn't good enough to even be worth considering for the #1 pick.
