So I spent all day yesterday trying to trade back up 'cuz I was hell bent on getting Dennis Rodman. So even with him off the board, it only makes sense that I follow the recent trend of sensible picks and take a highly-efficient, low-volume usage player. Right?

Screw it; let's make life difficult on myself and "zag" while everyone else is "zigging!"

The Brain-Dead Kennedys select Kobe Bryant (year TBD)

To me there's a pretty clear way to build around elite centers, and there are definitely guys that fit the bill

With this pick I'll take a 1B scoring option, and primary playmaker from the point forward spot, an freak athlete and a force defensively pre-injury.

One of the few guys to average 20/9/7 in this era and one of two (Bron?) to do it without sacrificing on the other end.

He also happens to be one of my favorite players ever.

Image

I'll take '97 Grant Hill.

Once I saw this guy dropping further and further I knew I had to trade up to get him. I honestly wouldn't be shocked to have seen him go top 10.

With the the 25th pick of the 2nd round, the Dream Team selects..

Dwyane Wade

Image

Probably going to go with 09' season but if I get tight on FGA I can always switch to the 06' season.

I think Wade & Dream are the perfect duo. Wade's combination of scoring/playmaking will be perfect for getting Hakeem open looks and getting him into his spots.

I'm convinced this guy always goes too low because he's an unlikeable manchild. But Dwight Howard has no business still being on the board in my opinion. Been trying to trade up for him for forever and falls to me anyway.

Image

#21 peak of the draftable players with better seasons in the era according to RealGMs peak project. Top 3-4 player in the league from 2009-2011. Continues the trend with Magic of players who drove crappy supporting casts to the finals. I personally think he's closer to peak Ewing than the next best center is to him.

Perfect fit with Magic. 2nd best finisher around the rim for a big next to Shaq, good pick and roll cutter that sucks the defense in. Best two way impact for the FGA at this point.

Lost out on several players I was targeting this round. I'm going back and forth with my decision right now so might as well just put a guy down before I change my mind again. My pick is:

Image

Manu. Unsure on year. Either way, the guy has always been ultra efficient. Effective on both ends of the floor. Considered one of the games greatest players even while sacrificing some of his game to benefit his team. His skillset was/is insane. I guess I'm building the Spurs but at least I know for sure that a Duncan/Ginobili pairing is very very nice!

With the 28th pick in the 90's to Now Fantasy Draft, ChicagoSportsFan21 selects...

Spoiler:
Dikembe Mutombo-C

Image

With already having an offensive anchor on my team in Dirk, I needed a defensive stalwart to anchor that side of the ball and I believe that is none other than Dikembe! I think he will fit great alongside Dirk. Dikembe is one of the best defensive players all time as he is a 4 time DPOY winner. He is one of the best when it comes to altering and blocking shots. Dikembe will hold his own when it comes to the all time great centers and intimidating shooters to drive in. Also, not known for his offense, Dikembe can provide some quality points on that end too sparingly. I really like my frontcourt duo of Dirk and Dikembe and I think they will play well together. I got the player who I wanted once again!

90's to Now Fantasy Draft: THE DRAFT -- ATL Boy OTC

Post#34 » by ATL Boy » Thu Jun 2, 2016 4:56 pm

2014-15 James Harden

27.4 PPG, 7 assists per game, lethal 3 point shooter, adept at getting to the foul line.

League leading 16.4 win shares. And despite all the YouTube videos, he was an above average defensive player. 4.2 defensive wins shares, and a +1 defensive plus/minus. IMO should've been MVP that year.

With pick #34, I select Reggie Miller.

Image

Image

I wanted a guy who could take advantage of the action created by a Nash/Malone PNR and Reggie is the best off-ball player available. Doesn't hurt that he's super clutch and good luck trying to catch my team in the 4th Q with he and Nash icing games at the stripe.

With pick #35 I select Ben Wallace.

Okay so my offense is absurdly elite with Nash/Malone/Miller. Now let's address defense with a 4x DPOY. Plus this buys me back a little bit on the FGA which I need.

Alright, team, we need to find ourselves a player who can dominate the game as a scorer at fewer than 15 FGA per game.

Impossible? Hardly.

We select Anfernee Hardaway.

Image

Sometimes forgotten for his short peak, but this guy was a right nasty piece of work at his peak. First team All Nba, could play any of the 3 perimeter positions (we've got him at small forward, but he'll switch to point to spell Stockton from time to time and create mismatches). Could shoot, pass, rebound, and was remarkably strong and versatile.

Was debating between him and Drexler for my team. Thanks to the guy who took Drexler! I'd have probably been tempted but this is a more economical choice. Shot attempts were down that year because he was playing alongside young Shaq, but this guy could WRECK.

Pick #38

Paul Pierce

Image

I don't draft players with less than a 60% true shooting percentage. Pierce is great. Highest of available players in RealGMs top 100. I was debating 3 players here, but I looked into a thread here that debated the 3 and it kept coming up with the Truth.
