Good luck. The internet needs some more good sites with quality content.

Why does this site look like the Medium or the Cauldron?

Kinda ruins it for me...

damn, you're already bowing out on first glance? that's some next level judging a book by it's cover...except website, not book. And not a cover, a home page.

So far I really like the nba content. Not as great as I'd hoped, but very promising at first glance.

Will work through the rest of the non nba content as well

They launch the website today and 2 out of the first 3 NBA articles are about game 1 of the Eastern Conference Finals and game 2 of the Western Conference Finals. They launch this great new website and their content is outdated.

No, it's just all over the place. The articles aren't in chronological order for some reason.

But the launch was today. All the articles should be current. People aren't going to be happy going to the website today to read last week's news. They knew the launch was today, so all the writers should have had articles ready for today. They've been planning this for months.

I was a big fan of Bill Simmons during his early days with ESPN and accordingly listened to a lot of his podcasts. I seem to recall in one of the old podcasts (probably at least 4-5 years ago), he had Chuck Klosterman as one of his guests and Klosterman was telling Simmons about how musicians get into trouble when they try to expand their fanbase beyond the limit of their capabilities. I think that is what is happening with Simmons. It seems like he is trying to expand the reach of his audience by adding politics/tech on top of the pop culture/sports stuff that had been the focus in Grantland. I just don't see this working out well.

Also, Simmons is somewhat of an interesting character. You can tell that he is not too rational/logical based on his inability to form coherent arguments or to have a consistent stance on pretty much anything (even on basketball which is supposed to be his expertise). However, he is pretty creative in the sense that he seems to be constantly trying to come up with new ideas about anything and everything.

I think its as simple as that he knows he's really in the business of entertainment and he's a master self-promoter. I actually think he's a talented guy albeit with that arrogance where he knows it. And I think he's actually pretty smart. Anyone expecting him to be objective is completely missing his point.

Here is their content, in order.

I like most of their writers, but some real heavy hitters either stuck with ESPN, or they were scooped up by MTV, The Fader or NY Times.

I'm guessing it'll still end up being a daily read, though.
