My personal favorites are both Fullmetal Alchemist series.

I watched One Punch Man. That was really good fun. I thought there was a moderate undertone of satire throughout the series. The whole enemies charging up and leveling up like you see in most action anime/mangas then to see them getting put away by a normal guy clearly not amused or invested in the spectacle was funny to me.

I'm pretty sure ONE started writing One Punch Man as a satire to typical shounen manga, I'll see if I can find where I read that

I watched Champloo. Was my first ever, and many years ago. Well, if you don't count Saint Seya, which was kinda lame but huge in Brazil when I was a teen some twenty years ago.

Oh wow really? It really comes through then because I had no idea. I just thought he found it funny a normal looking guy could be so powerful.

Yeah, I believe that ONE started writing it as a satire for shounen manga/hero comics for free on his own website, and it's popularity took off, eventually attracting Yusuke Murata (popular sports manga illustrator) to do the illustrations for him because the original artwork quality was very bad, in a funny way.

Damn that's rubbish hahaha but I suppose satire is more about the message than the art.

Yeah Champloo was one of my firsts too, although Bebop was my real first. If you liked Champloo maybe try giving Cowboy Bebop a shot? It's probably my favorite Anime I've watched. It's directed by the same guy as Samurai Champloo, except instead of a Hip-Hop/Samurai theme it's more of a Jazz/Cowboy Western/Space theme. If not, give FMA: Brotherhood a good, it's great as well.

OT - What are you listening to right now?

Post#227 » by bwgood77 » Thu Jun 2, 2016 6:29 am

I saw this topic on another forum, and thought it might be a good one here. I'm also looking for new good stuff to listen to. I will probably eventually merge with the Media Thread but I thought it would be good to have a separate thread to start.
