congrats on basketball purgatory then, 7th/8th seed with a first round bounce and a measly 10-14th pick.

Not tanking got us KP. No one hopes to tank. We can finally build something. Won more games last year than the year before now playoffs is definitely a possibility. Stop hoping to lose. Not tanking got us KP.

that's because the knicks sucked.

The Knicks aren't tanking. So the best you can hope for if you want to tank is the not intentional tank but still stink enough to maybe get another mid-late lotto pick.

to the 55 people that voted no, you're selfish and only care about yourself and not the betterment or future of the team. keep striving for that 2-3 year window while i strive for that 10 year window of dominance.

This would happen in my roll it over scenario.

Give the PG to Grant / Wroten
Make some FA signings on some youth
Miss the playoffs but see substantial growth from KP, Willie and Grant
Get your mid to late lotto pick
Go into 2017 FA with 56 mil in cap space to add multiple high caliber players

Go to war in 17-18 with a great mix of vets at the tail end of their prime, guys in the middle of their prime and young guys who are on their way into their prime.

Rip the Sixers "losing culture" all you want. But we have a hell of a lot better outlook right now than we did 3 years ago (years when winning a championship wasn't possible). Now we have a 1-2 of Ben Simmons and Joel Embiid along with endless cap space and attractive assets (Nerlens, Saric, Okafor, draft picks) to figure out the rest.

Nobody's saying you need to go through three years of this. You have one piece in place in Zinger. Just one year of tanking while maybe unloading Melo at the deadline would be a heck of a quick fix for this team.

I don't see how not tanking got us KP. Sure we won the last few games at the end of the season, but that team did tank for the majority of the year. Didn't get the worst record, but was bad enough to get a top 4 pick, which was the point in tanking.

As far as next season goes, I'm still leaning towards tanking, just because I don't know where this team is gonna get that second star from to help team up with Porzingis. U need at least 2 stars to compete and win a title, or u are doom to be a good team but a title pretender (Raps, Hawks, Grizzlies), and that is something I want to avoid at all costs. U can try to get one in free agency, but history shows that Knicks usually strike out on getting top 5 level talent. So you might have more success in getting a young potential superstar in the draft, and those are usually picked in the top 5 in drafts. So as much as I want to support Horny as a coach, if I had to choose right now, I would prefer to get a top 1-5 pick and take my chances on him becoming a star for us with Porzingis.

Yeah... as much as I like KP the team that tanked more than us that season got the unanimous ROY in his class, the best prospect the league has seen for quite some time, a guy who would have been perfect in the triangle offense and someone who is not far fetched to think would be in the All-NBA first team next season.

I realize that at the end of the day it is a lottery but similar to all aspects of life we have to make the most of what we can control. There is a reason that the NBA gives a player's current team certain advantages in FA, especially in those coming out of their rookie contracts. The league rewards those that draft good players and those that are willing to pay for what they are worth.

Okafor is good and all but your team would have been a whole lot scarier with KP, who is a lot better fit with your guys like Embiid. A frontcourt of Simmons, Kristaps and a healthy Embiid would have been a nightmare for the league.

Thanks for passing up on Godzingis bud.

Exactly. IF You're not a Boston, LA Lakers, Miami, OKC, San Antonio...franchises that attreact big names who take discounts in some cases...what's option B? Continue to OVERPAY for mediocre talent?

That was Isiah's plan, building a team via fantasy NBA stats and hope it all pans out. Well, it doesn't. As a consequence, Knicks have a reputation of being that whore you can call up and dump on.

Man I hope Saric and Embid actually play and don't flat out suck, for the sake of the sanity of all these Philly fans that hyped these dudes for years.

You should of seen the hype Mirotic was getting by CHI fans before he came over. Or the hype POR fans had each summer before Oden was supposed to be back.

BKlutch wrote:We can't tank this season because it would destroy the development of the team. Philly has nothing to show for all their picks because what they did was tank and tank again. This means that they did not develop their players to play in a sound NBA offense. They learned only to lose. We have a few good players, a few who may become good, and we may get a few more. Tanking to get a better draft pick would really damage the players we have.

That said, it is possible to take a player from a team that has played badly and integrate him into a healthier team. Look how much better JR has done with Cleveland, where his limited role has helped him to cope. He may still explode and go after shoe laces again, but he's played a good part as a limited role player there this year. So if Philly wants to deal Okafor or Noel, for example, either might prosper on a better team. But I don't look for Philly to do very well this season.

There has been a progression in the Knicks and I see it continuing. We may not win it all during Phil's (first?) 5 years, but I hope we will be on that trajectory by that time.

This is the most ridiculous argument ever to me. Like tanking one year is going to have some crushing impact on a team/player for the rest of their career. Comparing Philly's tank and draft philosophy to the knicks versions would be like comparing apples and oranges. Trust me, Okafor will be fine.

Don't worry - your "barely making the playoffs only to get a quick bounce, not seem any more appealing to free agents, with a crappy pick just outside of the top talent" dream will probably come to fruition.

It's obvious. "Tank"

If dealing Melo and Lopez for draft picks is tanking, then I am in. Surround KP, Grant, Wroten, WHG with 1 year vets and let these guys grow this season. Going into next year with multiple 1sts (including a top 5 pick, most likely) with near infinite cap space is a sexy option, and the smart option. Next years FA class is much better. We've been **** for a while now, what is one more year?

The Knicks probably don't need to tank, we'll suck and reap the rewards. Some people are acting like making the playoffs are a guaranteed, we're a **** team man. Will people be surprised if we are a bottom 10 team in the NBA?

We can't tank if melo doesn't want to leave NY. The only place he is willing to go imho is the clippers. A 3 team trade with Blake going to Boston, clips getting melo and Isaiah/another guy. 3rd pick + other picks coming to ny.

We are not getting the 3rd pick.

I would take 16+23+Smart+Nets 17 1st in a 3 way with Melo going to CLE and Love going to BOS

17 - SG/SF Denzel Valentine
23 - SG Malachi Richardson

Gives us this young core going into 2017 w/ 2 more lotto picks and infinite cap space.

Much rather have Malik Beasley and Taurean Prince with those picks.

Sorry I'm not going to create a losing mentality for kp. I'll take my chances with melo and kp in the weak east
