A player like Gasol can go to any team and be a valuable addition. Players like Navarro if they find the right team maybe they will find a role that they can make a contribution, coming from the bench, be a 3p specialist or something like that. There are not going to lit the league on fire but it does not mean that every player in the nba is better that all the players that are not in the league.

There are international players like Fournier, Teletovic, Gortat, Iliasova, Asik and many more that have an NBA role without being anything special. There are a few players in Europe that could do as well or better that have not entered the league. Keep in mind that up to recently the disparity in salaries (between a star euro player and an nba role player) were not that big.

Petrovic (one of the best euros ever) went to Portland and could not crack the rotation for whatever reason. If he had returned to Europe then, we would say that he was not good enough. He changed teams and was good enough to be selected to the All-NBA 3rd Team.

I am not convinced that a player like Rubio is better than Papaloukas or Diamantidis. At least there are comparable. Having said that I don't think that Spanoulis could be useful in the nba since he is not suited to be a role player and he is not good enough to be something more

"you guys from Greece"

With all due respect the opinion of an ignorant bucks(american) fun in european basketball matters and basketball in general outside the borders of NBA(or maybe even Milwaukee) is as valuable as a "lazy potato" and nothing more. :D

The americans who actually really make their research about a player, watch all kinds of basketball and don't disregard at once everything foreign to their minds are actually know plenty about legends like Spanoulis , Navarro and Diamandidis..

"llegedly, due to "family reasons," Spanoulis decided that he would not remain in the NBA, with his agent going as far as, comparing the Rockets reluctance to break his contract to slavery.[38] Spanoulis, instead opted to return to Panathinaikos, to once again play in the Greek Basket League and the Euroleague.[16]
In June 2013, Spanoulis claimed that Rockets coach Jeff Van Gundy told him on the first day he arrived at Houston that since he was a rookie, and unfamiliar to Van Gundy, he would be benched for the season. Spanoulis also claimed that the Houston Rockets' next head coach, Rick Adelman, wanted to keep him, and also that both Tony Parker and Gregg Popovich of the San Antonio Spurs were interested in having him on their team.[39]
In November 2015, the General Manager of the San Antonio Spurs, R.C. Buford, confirmed to the Greek press that the Spurs made the trade for Spanoulis with the intention of keeping him and having him play on their team. Buford also confirmed that it was Spanoulis' choice to not play with the Spurs, and to return to play in Greece"

I guess the staff of the Spurs and Gregg Popovich himself knows nothing about the real milwaukee style basketball you know and he was a fool wanting Spanoulis on his team....

Spanoulis when he was a hot talent tried NBA on the Rockets but he failed due to various reasons with his talent quality being the least one...
The experience was so bad to him that he even turned down the Spurs to come back.

I dont care about your opinion of Spanoulis or if you laugh when "we europeans" call him a Legend. I just kindly asked all of you to stop calling trash on players like him since plenty of greek Giannis's funs who read this board and especially this thread are also funs of players like Spanoulis and admire and love them as much as we love Giannis.

You and the other ones who agree with you just stop commenting about this foreign (to you) subject and move on...

To turn back on topic for once as far as Spanoulis concerning Giannis:

Giannis as he said in an nterview yesterday grew up in greece admiring players like Spanoulis "who is by far the most clutch player of europe" and Diamandidis who retired a few days ago "which made him almost cry". He wishes that Spanoulis was still part of the NT but sadly he is not anymore...

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0jXikNwZHXU

Spanoulis retired from the NT and the next leader for the following years will be Giannis.

End of story.

KWSN or whatever he used to be called is trying to turn you Greek guys against the Bucks board. Let it go dudes. Also Spanoulis sucks.

This is a great post, by which I mean I recognize my own opinions in it. I don't agree with every detail but I think we definitely see this stuff the same way.

Man, I wanted to get Papaloukas on the Bucks so bad. Even wanted to hire Messina to try to convince him. Also loved Diamantidis.

Ron Swanson wrote:Oh c'mon. The notion that any of these Euro guys "choose" to leave the NBA and their fancy, guaranteed multi-million dollar contracts because they have so much national pride is hilarious.

Spanoulis hasn't come back to the NBA for the same reason that Kristaps Porzingis isn't gonna leave an all-but-certain $140 million extension on the table and play for the Latvian Basketball League next year. One guy is good enough to have a decade-plus long career and earn millions, and the other guy would be playing in Summer League for a roster spot...

It's not an insult to say that Spanoulis couldn't and won't cut it in the NBA (lots of international guys don't). It's just reality.

In this special case Spanoulis really "chose" to leave the NBA.

Talent-wise someone would be an idiot to say that Spanoulis could not earn a roster spot in the "right" team.
As I said he just would need the ball all the time which does not correpsond to his talent level on NBA level.

If Calathes could be a Back Up Guard in this League then Spanoulis can be twice.

Additionally Spanoulis "chose" to be a Euroleague Legend and earn MORE in Greece than in the NBA.
As a back Up he would not get 6 Mio. Dollar a year like in Greece (especially in the years 2005-2010).

Spanoulis chose Playing time, Money and legacy instead of playing 10-15 Minutes as a back up.

These are the facts. If you know only 10% of European Basketball you would know it.

Talking about Summer League playing for Roster Spot is just ridicioulos.

That's just the facts

No. It is not that way. One User posted here to sign Spanoulis and most of the greeks said that this is no option.

It was Bucks related. We did not come here to tell everyone how great Spanoulis is.

On the contrary some of the users here said that Spanoulis is "trash" and "sucks" and I bet they have not seen more than 2-3 Youtube Videos of him.

At the end of the day Spanoulis will not come to Milwaukee and will not be investigated by the Bucks. Nor would Spanoulis examine
an offer by the bucks. So we are talking about a trade that will not happen in this universe.

So why waste our time with worthless discussions?

Just read that Paul George wants to go to Rio 2016 with Team USA.

If that happens and the Bucks still won't let Giannis play with the Greek NT I would be more than pissed.

If the Pacers can accept the wish of the Player than the Bucks will have no reason to decline Giannis' wish.

By the way: I am wondering when the Bucks will take their decision...

(According to FB Posts the grandfather of Giannis died these days. I have no idea how strong the bond between Giannis and
his Grandfather was but I would accept if Giannis would decline the Greek NT to be with his family)

The difference is the Paul George is already a very well established player at this point. Giannis has still got plenty of training to do before he should consider joining the NT.

Right.

At the end of the day the discussion is: Will Giannis develop better (or only) in training with Bucks or will he develop
with the NT also.

For me (as already said) the decision in not "NT vs. no NT" but "short stint with NT in the Qualifying tournament and rest of the summer Bucks Training Camp vs. only Bucks Training Camp (and Giannis being pissed off)"

Paul George may be a developed player but the risk for Indiana is much higher as Indiana must use the prime of George NOW.

Indiana already lost one year of his prime due to his injury 2014 with Team USA and still will let him play with Team USA.

Nah you are still a lazy potato since I doubt you even read my whole post before you answer again...
But you are right. Nobody cares about what milwaukee fans think about Spanoulis...
We just asked you to stop trash talking about him in respect to the greeks who happen to use this thread just because of their love for Giannis.
For those who can't understand this well I guess everybody can be an assh0le if thats what he wants.. :D

There is also the PR reasons why the Pacers would let PG play for team USA. Pacers fan would love to see PG wearing a USA jersey and leading the newest rendition of the dream team. Just a ton of marketing involved. Few people in America would care if Giannis wins a few games for Greece. Nor would bucks fans be pissed if they couldn't watched him in the tourney.
