Jones is very compelling, but if Korkmaz agrees to be stashed, picking him helps optimize your later draft picks because Korkmaz doesn't count towards your roster limit. He has a good deal of upside. I'd love Jones at 23. I'd love for Ainge to leverage the 2nd rounders and move up from 23 to grab him too.

There are going to be some pretty good prospects in the 2nd round, that factor should weigh on some decisions as we go. I would certainly sacrifice one or two of those prospects if I could secure a 2 for 1 scenario for Korkmaz and Jones though.

Thanks, I changed my vote. Zizic is 6-11, 255, 7-3 wingspan, excellent in the pick and roll, can score with both hands on the block, has a jump shot, gets to the line (8 times per 36 minutes) and shoots 75% when he gets there, rebounds, blocks shots, runs the floor, relentless effort... he's probably the best player in the Adriatic league at age 19.

It's not a great draft throughout the lottery, but at 16 there are plenty of strong choices for that spot.

23, 31, and 35 look exceptionally strong for those positions. With so many teams lacking picks, it shouldn't be hard to get some decent trade offers, since they probably can't use them all.

Regarding Damian Jones, from his most recent nbadraft.net capsule:

Sustaining a high level of intensity and focus is his biggest obstacle ... Jones laid back attitude often manifests itself on the court, and his inability to consistently play to his ability is a concern ... He often disappears from games and currently lacks the tenacity needed to be a dominant presence inside ... Success will likely be highly contingent on landing in the right situation with coaches that understand how to build his confidence and get the most out of his abilities ... Competitiveness and feel for the game comes into question ... It is baffling how poorly (6.9 per game) he rebounds for someone with his physical attributes ... Post skills have not progressed as expected and still need work ... Has the length and hops to be a real presence inside, but doesn’t really have the rebounding numbers or defensive prowess to show for it ... Had a tough time emerging as Vanderbilt's clearcut star, depite being the best talent ...

From DXPress' most recent entry:

Defensively, Jones is a bit of a mixed bag. Blocking a solid 2.5 shots per 40-minutes pace adjusted, Jones has some impressive flashes rejecting would-be scorers, but doesn't have great instincts contesting shots on the ball and isn't always as physically aggressive as you'd like a player his size to be around the rim. His instincts and passivity on the defensive glass are a more consistent issue as he pulled down just 7.1 defensive rebounder per-40 minutes pace adjusted, the fourth lowest mark among the 13 centers ranked in our top-100, behind a number of players with far less impressive physical profiles.

Jones has the quickness to step away from the rim and defend the perimeter fairly impressively in spurts and the strength to hold his own in the post, but he frequently gets caught in no man's land, is a step slow with his awareness, and doesn't show great anticipation. Jones clearly has the physical tools to be a factor on this end, and the flashes of potential he shows leave some room for optimism, but his instincts are still catching up.

His rebounding improved a little this past season. His foul efficiency isn't good. I am not writing him off, but he is a tough sell for me until a little bit later on in the draft. I wouldn't take him over Sabonis, or Zubac/Zizic.

I love Sabonis. I think he'd be a perfect fit in Stevens' offensive system. If he can add a little more range, so much the better.

Bender, Sabonis, Olynyk, Veteran Big. I'll take that group.

I changed my original vote to Zizic, I want this guy and with him coming straight to the NBA he should be our pick.

Do we feel like Ainge's visit, followed immediately by Zizic saying he will come to the NBA could be linked?

He's actually been saying it for a while.

I think a lot of guys are looking to get out of Europe if they can. Two major reasons: first, some of the bigger clubs are in places where there is a lot of unrest. Tons of guys have been commenting on that. I've seen at least 10 American players comment that pending on how the election turns out, they may not want to play overseas next year. And I don't say that to turn this in to political chat. Just a fact.

Second, a bunch of clubs are also having money troubles. This probably isn't all that unrelated from the first one actually. This isn't new, but it has been exacerbated recently and lots of guys commented on not getting paid when they should have.

Add it up and I think you'll have guy chase both the money and stability of playing here in the US as soon as they can.

Voted for Furkin, like Jones and Sabonis too. If this is how the draft goes we can get a nice player at 16.

I could totally get behind this too. seems like a guy that will stick in the league and be a solid rotation guy with a long career.

I will vote Korkmaz but if he is there then something is wrong. If we take Bender I expect this pick will be Brice Johnson.

Good point. It's a good draft to trade up in, or out to another year, if one feels one wants to do those things.

Meanwhile, a lot of mocks have Zizic going to the Cs at 23, and here he might win a poll at 16.

I'd take Korkmaz because of the upside and because of the potential to stash him (especially if we haven't been able to consolidate elsewhere). He provides exactly what he lack (scoring) and is complimented by what we have (defensive guards). I just don't know how far away from contributing he is.

I'd be fairly happy settling for Sabonis as well, he mocks to be there most times and I feel like he should have a decent floor. Not a bad safe pick, especially if we go risky with Bender early on (or really anyone else for that matter).

If the draft played out like this I'd be pushing really hard to get into that 9-15 range by trading up. Getting into the top 10 might be a stretch. I'd really target Utah and Chicago. If we could move up and get one of Poetl/Skal or Luwawu I'd be really happy (Baldwin as well could be a good consolation prize for Danny if he does manage to hold off on taking a guard at #3).

Tough call at 16. I'm a big Baldwin fan so I'd be bummed if he went 2 picks ahead of us. That said, some really solid options there. Jones and Kork as potential guys and Sabonis, Zizic, and maybe even Prince as more ready types.

Brice Johnson is a really solid player. Probably won't get a lot of hype because of age, but he had a fantastic year, rebounds, defends, scores at decent efficiency, and is a really good athlete. Age and frame might limit him a bit, but I suspect he'll be a solid rotational big.

I don't think he is a great value at 16 but if Boston drafts Bender or trades the pick for a star then a plug in guy like Johnson may be more attractive than a two years away guy. Johnson could give you a lot of what WCS and Noel do with better offense. He reminds me of Amir 3 or 4 years into his career actually.

I watched Brice Johnson all year in the ACC (I live 5 minutes from UNC) and can't imagine him being more than a role player in the NBA. He's an average defender and shooter, can't handle the ball or pass, and his best attribute is his athleticism. He also has some maturity issues which is surprising given his age (nothing evil, just dumb mistakes on the court). Taking him at #16 would be a waste IMO, and as a UNC fan I like the guy.

I didn't propose him at 16. Better prospects available then. Just said I thought he could be a solid rotational guy.
