#30 - Shayna "The Queen of Spades" Baszler

Image

One of the true pioneers of women's MMA, Shayna Baszler has fought in EliteXC, Strikeforce, Invicta FC, and the UFC. Along the way she has fought a who's who of WMMA royalty and has amassed an impressive list of regional titles to go along with wins over Julie Kedzie, Jennifer Howe, Roxanne Modaferri, and Alexis Davis.

She got to the 2nd round against Cyborg. Uneven record, a victory over Julie Kedzie sandwiched between 2 loses to Amanda Buckner, and of course that end of career slump.

Record can be a tough indicator with the ladies, because there was no UFC/Pride style all inclusive org until recently. Baszler is 15-10, but arguably has fought as tough a lineup of fighters as anyone on this list.

#29 - Tecia "The Tiny Tornado" Torres

Image

http://www.sherdog.com/fighter/Tecia-Torres-85096

A rising star in the UFC's Strawweight division and former Invicta FC standout, Torres is one of the best young fighters in all of WMMA. Sporting a 7-1 record, with wins over Paige VanZant, Felice Herrig, Angela Magana, Angela Hill, and Rose Namajunas, Torres is just scratching the surface of her considerable talent. At only 26 years old, expect her to remain a constant in the UFC's title picture for quite some time.

#28 - Tonya "Triple Threat" Evinger

Image

http://www.sherdog.com/fighter/Tonya-Evinger-18248

Fighting since 2006, Evinger is one of the few pioneers of WMMA still fighting at a high level. Undefeated since 2011, she is the current Invicta FC Bantamweight champion and considered by many the best Bantamweight female not currently in the UFC. Evinger has fought a murder's row of elite female fighters, yet still holds an impressive record of 18-5, with wins over Julie Kedzie, Cindy Dandois, Irene Aldana, Adrianna Jenkins, Sarah D'Alelio, and Ediane Gomes.

Looks like this is at least as ambitious as your top 100 list for men.

It was much more difficult to make, because WMMA only recently got on an even-ish playing field where the best fighters mostly fight in the same place. Before that it was the wild west.

#27 - Amanda "Lioness" Nunes

Image

http://www.sherdog.com/fighter/Amanda-Nunes-31496

Still very much in her prime, Nunes is a force to be reckoned with in the crowded UFC Bantamweight division. A stalwart in both Strikeforce and Invicta FC, Nunes is finding even more success in her time fighting for the UFC. She holds a 12-4 record, with victories over Valentina Shevchenko, Sara McMann, Shayna Baszler, Vanessa Porto, and Germaine de Randamie. Nunes has a chance to fly up this list with a win in her title shot against Miesha Tate at UFC 200.

I'll be reading, but WMMA is still so unestablished that this list will probably look outdated by the time it's finished.

I think the closer it gets to the top, the more set in stone it feels. But, I don't totally disagree. It was a really difficult list to put together.

The plan is to run this list up to around UFC 200, then after UFC 200 is in the books I'm going to do another edition of the top 100 men, with UFC 200 as the cutoff.

#26 - Satoko "Princess" Shinashi

Image

http://www.sherdog.com/fighter/Satoko-Shinashi-6974

Former DEEP and Smackgirl champion at 95 lbs. and 105 lbs., Satoko Shinashi is a pioneer in WMMA in Japan, with fights going all the way back to 2001. Shinashi has been a mainstay of the DEEP organization, who was one of the first majors to bring in women, and she still competes for the company currently. She has amassed an impressive record of 34 and 2, with wins over a ton of Japanese sounding names no one outside of Japan will even recognize. Shinashi has been elite for years, and remains one of the top female fighters in the smallest weight classes in MMA.

#25 - Barb "Little Warrior" Honchak

Image

http://www.sherdog.com/fighter/Barb-Honchak-41484

The first and only Invicta FC Flyweight champion, Barb Honchak has been the cream of the Flyweight crop since the division gained traction. The Miletich product has used superior wrestling to wrack up a 10-2 record (with one of those losses at 135 lbs. against much larger Cat Zingano), 5-0 since joining Invicta FC. Honcheck holds victories over Felice Herrig, Nina Ansarov, Roxanne Madafferi, Aisling Daly, Takayo Hashi, and Leslie Smith.

192. Torres
178. Baszler
171. Pena
167. Zingano

They going to have any non-UFC fighters?

Don't think so. But you can only have two fights in the UFC and get stopped in both and make the list like Baszler.

#24 - Jessica Penne

Image

http://www.sherdog.com/fighter/Jessica-Penne-21247

Former Invicta FC Atomweight champion and UFC Strawweight title challenger, Jessica Penne has carved out an impressive resume fighting in the top WMMA orgs in the world. Penne is 12-4, with wins over Randa Markos, Naho Sugiyama, Lisa Ellis, and Angela Magana. Of her 4 losses, 3 came against fighters who were champions in that organization (Zoila Frausto in Bellator, Michelle Waterson in Incvicta FC, and Joanna in the UFC). Still one of the better Strawweights on the UFC roster, expect Penne to continue to carve out a spot on this list going forward.

Have to see what she's got left after her last two fights.

#23 - Michelle "The Karate Hottie" Waterson

Image

http://www.sherdog.com/fighter/Michelle-Waterson-23091

The Karate Hottie is a former Invicta FC Atomweight champ, who made a successful UFC debut in 2015. Even fight up a weight class from her natural fight weight, Waterson is one of the best Strawweights in all of WMMA. A karate based fighter with underrated BJJ, Waterson has amassed an impressive 13-4 record, including wins over Yasuko Tamada, Angela Magana, Jessica Penne, and Lacey Schuckman. As if being an elite MMA fighter is not enough to stay busy, Waterson is a mother and respected Hollywood stunt woman.
