So if the Wolves like Buddy next is that going to be a smokescreen?

One real and strategic smokescreen that I think is out there is Celtics being down on Dragan Bender. First two picks are Simmons and Ingram, and there is a lot the celtics can do including trading the pick. I think by not liking Bender publicly, there will be more calls for a trade whether its by a team who wants Bender or a team who wants to trade up with the C's who apparently don't look enamored with a prospect at 3 (therefore the pick may be cheaper than they thought). In this way C's can look at what other teams are thinking so if they do decide to move down, they can have a better idea of how far they can drop before their guy gets taken. Like many, I think Okafor for philly's 3 makes sense, and perhaps Celtics are weighing Bender vs Okafor in this draft with possible consideration for moving down if the price is right.

I think smokescreens do exist but probably not this early in the process. What we are seeing right now is most likely just carefully worded garbage. Thibs likes Dunn if he's available at 5, several Wolves FO folks like Bender if he's available, they would consider Murray if he's available, etc. Well, duh, I hope they would be considering all of those guys (and others) if they are on the board. The big question that won't be answered at this point is how they rank them individually.

They haven't even had individual workouts from most of these guys yet.

I like this review of Bender's game:

https://capstrategist.com/draft/draft-prospect-analysis-by-position/hybrid-big-men/dragan-bender/

It basically says he projects to be an elite role player, ala Draymond Green, who can be an elite perimeter defender capable of spreading the floor. If I could create the ideal player we need, that would be it.

Under the radar prospect Marquese Chriss is jumping up draft boards.

Just spent the last two days looking at his skill-set and He looks very promising.

What do Timberwolves fans think of his game and potentially adding him as a front court partner to Wiggins and Towns?

It's one of about 10 possibilities I'd be OK with.

I think the Wolves have sent out some early smoke screens in the past, particularly through the local guys. Most of the early chatter last year was that Okafor was the preference, then Flip eventually said that Towns had been the apple of his eye since somewhere around November. I have no idea how Thibs/Layden will operate. Although I'd be surprised if Thibs liked playing the media game as much as Flip did.
"A while back,'' Cardinal said, "I took a picture of the standings and texted it to Love, just to bust his chops,'' Cardinal said. "He sent me a picture back of a snowdrift.''

I'd talk myself into him if he's the pick, but his lack of reach, BBIQ, defense, and especially rebounding scare the heck out of me.

Smokescreen = a ruse designed to disguise someone's real intentions or activities.

I think with Zach and Wiggins we have enough "upside" guys and I hope we draft more of a sure thing than the type of boom or bust potential that Chriss is labeled as having.

After reading and watching DX's Bender overview that came out today, I really hope we find a way to get him. I think in 3 years, he and Towns would form a dominating front court on both ends. The way Bender is able to move his feet on the perimeter is special for someone 7'1".

For me, the only exception to this is Bender.

Draft will go:
1. PHI Simmons
2. LAL Ingram
3. BOS Dunn -> traded to PHI for Okafor
4. PHX Bender
5. MIN Hield

Better discuss what additional moves should we do after we draft Hield :)

If this is exactly how it plays out I'd be perfectly fine. I've said it for a while but I absolutely love Hield as a prospect. However I still would want us to buy a pick(hello Boston and pick #23 although I'd prefer #16 if Sabonis is still on the board)or somehow acquire a later one for Brice Johnson.

I think Bender has far less bust potential

I hope he gets wasted in night clubs before the Celts and Suns workouts.
